] – The GW Institute for Korean Studies [gwiks@gwu.edu] on Thurs., May 4 from 9 to 10:30 AM ET is holding Reviewing North Korea’s Progress on Reforms in Agriculture and Finance. North Korea remains a black box to outside watchers who strive to understand the current status of the country’s economy. Although Pyongyang’s extremely strict COVID policies, including the closure of its borders, are largely still in place, the economy seems to be muddling through without any news about a full-scale disaster. However, the ruling Workers’ Party convened a plenary meeting dedicated to the “urgent task of improving the agricultural sector” last February. In following up on the decisions made at the plenary meeting, the government agencies were also urged to strengthen the country’s financial foundation and financial discipline to support the comprehensive development of their socialist construction. We invite you to join the GW Institute for Korean Studies and the Institute for Peace and Unification Studies at Seoul National University for an online discussion on North Korea’s progress on reforms in agriculture and finance.  RSVP at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/north-korea-economic-forum-virtual-panel-discussion-tickets-622493543947?utm_source=eventbrite&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=post_publish&utm_content=shortLinkNewEmail.

] – Friends of Sabeel North America [friends@fosna.org] wants you to join in on Thurs., May 4 at 1 PM ET for an interview with Sandra Tamari, a Palestinian organizer and the Executive Director of Adalah Justice Project.  The Adalah Justice Project is a Palestinian-led organization working to achieve collective liberation, rooted in the conviction that linking US policy abroad and repressive state practices at home is crucial to shifting the balance of power. Register at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIqd-iorj4oE9WHjOsi7vChuavj72CVgnvl#/registration.

] – On Thurs. May 4 from 5 to 7 PM, Fri., May 5 from 4 to 6 PM, Sun., May 7 from 6 to 8 PM ET and Tues., May 9 from 4 to 6 PM ET, there is a Common Cause organized Election Protection phone bank.  Work together to demand bold changes to our democracy to create a government that represents all of us, not big corporations or special interests. Register for a shift to make calls and help strengthen the phone bank team to protect our democracy. Make calls Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and/or Sundays. These shifts will also always include training for first-timers before you make calls, so if this is your first time, no worries! Register at https://www.mobilize.us/dfadcoalition/event/376178/?followup_modal_context=organization_newsletter_custom_recommendations.

] – On Thurs., May 4 from 5 to 6 PM ET, get with the Brady Organizing Team for a virtual training. Do you need support from Brady’s organizing team? Have new ideas to combat gun violence, but don’t know how to get them off the ground? Every week, a member of the organizing team is here to support your work. Sign up for the shift that works best for your schedule. If you can't find a time that works for you, email rgonzalez@bradyunited.org to schedule time to talk. 51] – The CCAN Action Fund [info@chesapeakeclimate.org] needs you on Thurs., May 4 at 6 PM ET for an EPA Climate-Pollution Accountability Webinar.  RSVP for the Zoom details: https://act.chesapeakeclimate.org/page/51645/data/1?utm_medium=email&utm_source=engagingnetworks&utm_campaign=fednnff&utm_content=FED-CE-EPA+webinar-0423-c3+C&ea.url.id=1745738. Over 150 people loudly protested in front of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) headquarters demanding an end to delays on critical power sector rules. At this protest, it was demanded that EPA honor its pledge to announce the single most impactful rule to reduce carbon pollution they could through executive action — carbon pollution standards for new and existing power plants — by the end of April. Find out if EPA met the primary goal of releasing carbon standards for power plants AND what is the status of the other FIVE demands for climate action.

Email social.housing.wg@gmail.com.  Learn about its latest activities, what they're planning for the future, and how to get involved. The Social Housing Working Group seeks to educate Metro DC DSA chapter members and the general public about social housing and to facilitate collective action in support of the passage and implementation of the Green New Deal for Housing Amendment Act. The legislation proposes to create mixed-income, district-owned housing with market rate units that subsidize a larger number of affordable units. It's a pioneering approach that deepens affordability, invests surplus funds into the creation of more social housing, and locks-in financial sustainability. The bill also includes climate and labor standards and elected tenant boards with oversight over building management.
