31] – Jewish Voice for Peace is doing a Power Half-Hour for Gaza: Channel grief & outrage into action to stop a genocide.  A year into the genocide in Gaza, we are overwhelmed with sorrow and rage. There are no words to describe the devastating pain of the past year in which the Israeli military has killed over 44,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including more than 17,000 children. The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court have both declared that Israel must stop the genocidal acts being committed on the Palestinian people. And the U.S. government is actively supporting the Israeli military as it wreaks devastation on the over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza. JVP continues to come together as a political community in its daily half-hour to take action. Join in and take collective action to demand an arms embargo to Israel, immediate end to the genocide, a lasting ceasefire and an end to Israeli siege, apartheid, occupation, and oppression of Palestinians and Lebanon. All are welcome. All are needed. Get involved at 3 PM ET on Tues., July 1, Wed., July 2, Thurs., July 3 and Mon., July 7. Visit https://jvp-org.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Un0Lupy1SFObVVXJaZO5UQ?_x_zm_rtaid=8L0JUS3pQkenMGtx9ha3mQ.1732760660364.03949df73aedc7035fc618f76c52fc75&_x_zm_rhtaid=249#/registration

33] – Gillian for Healthcare NOW [info@healthcare-now.org] wants you to join a virtual Tax and Budget Fight 2025 phone bank on Tues., July 1 from 6 to 8:30 PM ET, Wed., July 2 from 4 to 6 PM ET & Thurs., July 3 from 6 to 8:30 PM ET.  Trump and his pals in the Senate have decided that this is the week they want to pass what they call their “Big Beautiful Bill,” a silly name for a deadly plan to rob vulnerable people of the healthcare they need to survive. The latest estimates are that the Medicaid cuts included in the bill will cause more than 50,000 preventable deaths per year. This is murder-by-legislation, and we need to do everything we can to stop it.  RSVP athttps://www.mobilize.us/peoplesactioninstitute/event/759686/

34] – Get over to a Together in Welcome Vigil for Immigrants on Tues., July 1 from 6 to 7:30 PM ET at Tifereth Israel Congregation, 7701 16th St. NW, WDC 20012. Visit https://www.tifereth-israel.org/event/together-in-welcome-vigil.html

This vigil, co-sponsored by HIAS, will involve a variety of speakers representing clergy, refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and descendants of Holocaust survivors, all coming together to bring attention to the worsening situation for refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers in the United States, call for advocacy to protect the rights of these groups, highlight the danger of deploying law and bureaucracy to cause harm to them under the pretext of enhancing legal order without due process.

35] – The ACLU [aclu@aclu.org] wants you to attend a briefing on Tues., July 1 from 5 to 6 PM ET -- Inside the Supreme Court Term. Hear from a panel of ACLU legal experts to break down what these cases mean for our rights – and where we go from here.  RSVP at https://action.aclu.org/signup/aclu-national-town-hall?initms_aff=nat&initms_chan=eml&utm_medium=eml&initms=awr-na-sail-gradead-nat-250627_event-civilliberties-na-townhall&utm_source=sail&utm_campaign=townhall&utm_content=awr-na-sail-gradead-nat-250627_event-civilliberties-na-townhall&af=RA1%2BJp3N228aRV69knhQi6HdXOURCg1a8LjFy%2FqVNQ3Po1gpJ2TWtaez2njMlOuEAnWCHkgEsbpWshTz9SyXZHZ4ZBqwHCVVpKJ%2BZXlAWLY9SUg1qbRF6XQ%2FGofdGh0uIrE%2BgrtlRDoZHWCwwg1ZrXmTDTeoAx%2B%2B4iu8YWTWyXa4EoSg7nGmN8x6HStwNOnh&ms_aff=nat&ms_chan=eml&ms=awr-na-sail-gradead-nat-250627_event-civilliberties-na-townhall

24] –Join in a virtual Phone Bank to Save Medicaid from Mon., June 30 through Wed., July 2 from 6 to 8 PM ET. Congress will soon vote on whether to advance a budget resolution that would take away nearly a trillion dollars of support and assistance from everyday people, including the largest proposed cuts to Medicaid in history. This budget would enact more than $1 trillion in cuts to vital public programs their own constituents depend on, including Medicaid, food assistance, and education, to help fund their massive tax giveaway for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations.

Join MoveOn, Working Families Power, Indivisible, Community Change Action, and Public Citizen for a national phone bank to Medicaid recipients urging them to call their Senators ahead of the upcoming budget vote to stop the cuts and save Medicaid! Those attending will present a document to a staff person at the Towson office providing statistics from Israel’s brutal assault on the people of Gaza.  The idea is to convince the member of Congress that he must ignore his marching orders from AIPAC. And instead call for an end to genocide, starvation and an end to the Israeli control of food distribution.  Real HUMANITARIAN AID must be brought into GAZA IMMEDIATELY. It is criminal to use tax dollars to provide weapons used in a genocide.  For more information, text 410-917-5838 or 443-690-3135.

Any donation is appreciated. More or less you will receive the book.  Barry and the team have spent over two years putting this book together. It begins with outlines and notes found in the boxes of materials Murphy left when she ascended. The work is a work of love, and all involved are proud of the fruit borne by seeds nourished in good soil.

To order by postal mail, make your check to Open Door Community.  Send it to Open Door Community, PO Box 10980, Baltimore 21234.  For any questions, contact David Payne at 404-290-2047 or davidpayne@opendoorcommunity.org.

5] – Another book to consider purchasing is Male Supremacy in the Catholic Church: An Insider’s View by Roy Bourgeois. His new book is both memoir and position-paper, and it makes the case that the Roman Catholic Church is a corrupt system that spits out truth-tellers. The crime he was excommunicated for was attending the ordination ceremony of Janice Sevre-Duszynska in Lexington, Kentucky, in August 2008. The ordination was under the auspices of the Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests.  The Vatican’s response has been to excommunicate any woman who has the audacity to see herself as a priest equal to a male priest. You can purchase a copy from Amazon or by Kindle.

Here are two quotes to contemplate: “I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men. She is to keep silent.” – Timothy 1, 2:12-13.  “If the patriarchy that dominates the church is not dismantled and women are not treated as equals, the church will continue to diminish and, eventually, die.” – Roy Bourgeois.

6] – This Saturday night at midnight marks the beginning of Starvin’ for Justice: The Annual Fast and Vigil to Abolish the Death Penalty, happening June 29–July 2 in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.   In the fifth session of MDC DSA’s Beyond the Bombs: Anti-Imperialist Summer School teach-in series, we will examine the role that the institutions and structures of international governance—specifically, the United Nations and the international legal system—play in the imperialist world-system. We will trace the history of these institutions and their formation by colonial powers as a response to the shifts in the 20th-century imperial order, and will explore the ways in which they have both been instrumentalized as tools of imperialism and wielded as platforms for Global South nations to challenge and critique empire. Grounding our discussion in the context of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Palestine, which has challenged many of the assumptions of liberal internationalism that underpin the international governance system, we will critically examine what opportunities—if any—this system and its institutions can offer to anti-imperialists today. RSVP at https://actionnetwork.org/events/anti-imperialist-summer-school-week-5-international-governance-and-empire?link_id=94&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-metro-dc-dsa-weekly-newsletter-for-june-6-2025&email_referrer=email_2774033&email_subject=metro-dc-dsa-weekly-newsletter-for-june-13-2025&&

15] – Progressive Democrats of America [info@pdamerica.org] on Sun., June 29 at 4 PM ET indicates that the weekly Town Hall will discuss local and national implications of Zohran Mamdani's victory in the New York City Democratic Party primary, the most significant win for progressives in years. Then turn your attention to the next big race, the Democratic primary in Arizona's 7th district. The result in the New York City Democratic Party Primary sparked celebrations and sent shock waves across the entire country. State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, an unapologetic Democratic Socialist running a no-holds-barred pro-working class progressive campaign, crushed the corrupt centrist establishment-backed candidate Andrew Cuomo in one of the great results in the history of American progressive politics. But what does a victory like this change in the battle for the soul of the Democratic Party; and how can progressives best build upon Mamdani's victory?

And get an update from Arizona on PDA-endorsed candidate Adelita Grijalva's race for Congress against conservative Democratic opposition. 80] – Hideaki Ito [silentfalloutproject.org@gmail.com] wants to give you an update about the Silent Fallout Project. It has been more than five months since Silent Fallout was screened in Baltimore. He wants to express his sincere gratitude to all who supported the project during its US tour and hosted screenings. The film was shown in 20 locations over 43 days to over 600 people. The film aims to raise awareness about the reality of radiation contamination across the American continent and how many Americans are unknowingly exposed. It helps people understand that they are impacted by this issue and then use the US as a starting point to spark a global conversation about radiation.

Currently, the project is facing a deficit of $100K, and its future is uncertain. However, Ito is determined to raise funds and continue its activities. In 2025, which marks the 80th year since the birth of the atomic bomb, there is a plan to embark on a European screening tour, produce a new film, conduct a second US tour, and host a large-scale event on August 6th. Make a donation at https://www.silentfalloutproject.org/donation
