30] – The storied Golden Rule anti-nuclear sailboat arrived in Baltimore on April 27, kicking off a series of local events to raise awareness about the growing danger of nuclear war and to build support for the abolition of nuclear weapons.  Contact the Golden Rule Project Manager, Helen Jaccard, at vfpgoldenruleproject@gmail.com or 206-992-6364.

On Tues., May 2 from 10 AM to 3 PM ET, visit the boat. Then from noon to 2 PM, there will be a send-off lunch at the Ambassador Dining Room, 3811 Canterbury, Baltimore 21212. Enjoy an intimate gathering and hear about the first ocean environmental protest in 1958 when the original crew was arrested for trying to stop open-air nuclear weapons tests in the forcibly depopulated Marshall Islands (Bikini and Eniwetok atolls). Hear anecdotes about the current 15-month 11,000-mile Great Loop Tour & highlights from the FCNL Lobby Day for House Resolution 77 in D.C. This resolution with 18 co-sponsors including Jamie Raskin (MD8) and Glenn Ivey (MD4) supports the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

Regarding the MENU, it will be an extended buffet with reserved seating on covered patio.  Dishes will include rice, salad, naan, desserts & soft drink.  A cash bar will be available.  This is a fundraiser for Veterans for Peace, so the PRICE is $65 per person. Additional donations are welcome. Veterans for Peace is a 501(c)(3) group; all donations less fair market value of goods. Contact Lou Curran by text/call 410-499-8899 ASAP.  Cash, check or MC/Visa card accepted at restaurant; or cash/check ("Veterans for Peace") by mail to Lou Curran at 5115 Underwood Road, Baltimore, MD 21212.

Then from 6 to 8 PM ET, come to the Ivy Book Shop, 5928 Falls Road, Baltimore 21209. Hear from the Golden Rule crew and former Greenpeace General Counsel Carol Booker, author of “Cove Point on the Chesapeake” about the Cove Point community, including risks of the Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant and Cove Point fracked gas export plant dangerously close together in Cove Point. The Golden Rule sailed past the two plants and livestreamed commentary and took photos of the boat going past.

31] – Join the Baltimore Nonviolence Center on Tues., May 2 from 4:30 to 5 PM ET at 33rd and N. Charles Sts. The invasion of Ukraine has the potential to become a war extending throughout Europe.  Putin has destroyed Aleppo and Grozny and has threatened the use of nuclear weapons.  Russian soldiers were sent into the area around the contaminated and still radioactive Chernobyl nuclear plant. Now they are stationed in the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe.   People who believe in peace and justice should come forward and take the risks of peace. The burial sites continue to expose ruthless war crimes by the invaders, Contact Max at mobuszewski2001 at Comcast dot net or 410-323-1607.

32] -- On Tues., May 2 at 6:30 PM ET, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party is hosting the Hanover for Progress Monthly Meeting. Meet at the Perkins Restaurant - Banquet Room at 300 W. Eisenhower Drive, Hanover, PA 17331.  Help mobilize voters in the Hanover area. RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/550062/?followup_modal_context=nonexclusive_newsletter_more_events_of_type.

33] -- The next meeting of the Returning Citizens Task Force will feature a talk by Dr. Felix Martinez-Sanchez, an adjunct professor at Howard University who has been active in Riverdale and other Latino neighborhoods in Prince George’s County.  The meeting will be held on Tues., May 2 at 6:30 PM ET. Join on Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88913579822?pwd=alFzQVpJQ0t4RFFKRFRqOWZiY2VLUT09&emci=374fe8c6-eae2-ed11-8e8b-00224832eb73&emdi=e23f4dd9-f0e2-ed11-8e8b-00224832eb73&ceid=136680#successIf. Email Kurt at Kurt@progressivemaryland.org.

34] – Oil Change International [info@priceofoil.org] is inviting to participate on Tues., May 2 at 6:30 PM ET and learn how we’re taking on big oil and gas companies.  Join in for the spring supporter briefing to learn more about efforts to stop fossil-fuel greenwashing. Big oil and gas companies are earning record profits. At the same time, governments are backsliding on their already weak climate pledges. The world is at risk of a major surge in new oil and gas production from 2023 to 2025. OCI has been coordinating campaigns to take shields away from the oil and gas industry.  Join in by Zoom at https://act.priceofoil.org/go/31766?t=2&akid=45120%2E332072%2EP9qwMK.

35] – On Tues., May 2 from 7 to 8:15 PM ET, join a NOPE Neighbors meeting with Senator Tim Kaine.  Join in on Zoom and turn your attention to the 2023 Virginia state legislature races and celebrate the role of grassroots partners.  Virginia is a bellwether state, so maintaining the current state Democratic Senate majority and flipping the state House of Delegates will build momentum for 2024.
