20] – Massachusetts Peace Action [info@masspeaceaction.org] thinks you will be interested in this webinar on Wed., May 15 at 7 PM ET -- Repression of Human Rights in the Middle East, The U.S. Role. The U.S. provides vast resources – military aid, economic assistance, arms transfers, and political support – to the region’s leaders, nearly all of whom have presided over years of human rights abuse in their countries.  Allison McManus, managing director of the Freedom Initiative, will explore the U.S. impact. U.S. influence in the region is waning, and new poles are emerging, including around Israel and the Gulf. This discussion will explore America’s role in the Middle East and North Africa and its impact on the repression of human rights. The Freedom Initiative is a Washington D.C.-based organization dedicated to ending abusive detention practices in the Middle East and North Africa. Already running in the election for over a year now, Adele has met some amazing folks doing some dials - and we hope you are able to help however you can! 22] – Susan Barnett [reelandmealatnewdealcafe@gmail.com] wants you to know that May’s REEL and MEAL is in person only.  On Mon., May 15 at 7 PM ET, see three environmental films. Come to the New Deal Café, 113 Centerway (Roosevelt Center) in Greenbelt and enjoy the new wide-screen film projection system. Masks are encouraged. It is encouraged to eat a plant-based meal to support a mission focused on environmental, social justice and animal rights issues.

Featured first is an animation, “The Sprayer”, whose job is to destroy all plant life. This technically sophisticated and poignant film comes from Iran. Following will be “Climate Emergency: Feedback Loops.” Narrated by Richard Gere, this film shows how nature's own systems may actually accelerate the process of Global Warming our fossil fuel burning has created. The final film, “Trees: the Lungs of Our Community,” documents local forest and tree loss in Hyattsville. Over 30% of their canopy has been lost in just the past few years to development and climate change. Filmmaker Matt Carl will discuss this significant loss and what is being done to restore this most vital part of their community.

The film and discussion are free.  Call Frank Gervasi at 301 467-2418 for more details. The Reel and Meal at the New Deal is a monthly film series focused on environmental, social justice and animal rights issues, presented by Utopia Film Festival, the Prince George’s County Peace and Justice Coalition and Beaverdam Creek Watershed Watch Group.  For more information on the series see the Reel and Meal Facebook page – Reel & Meal at the New Deal Cafe | Greenbelt MD | Facebook.

23] – Join MoveOn's virtual Volunteer Network's Monthly Call on Mon., May 15 from 8 to 9 PM ET. This Call is a monthly gathering space for MoveOn's volunteers, members and those looking to get more deeply involved in its organizing work. These calls give all an opportunity to do a deep dive into campaigns, the political landscape, and build community with one another. If you know one another, all can fight for one another. And that's what these community calls allow us to do.

This month, celebrate all the wins from Wisconsin to Chicago to New York City. Following that, take a deep dive into the Trump arraignment - what it means, what we can expect and what we can do about it. Sign up at https://www.mobilize.us/moveon/event/545679/?akid=349086.37684438.ZzzPoM&rd=1&t=2. The calls will continue on Mondays, June 19, July 17 and Aug. 21 at 8 PM ET.

24] – Stop the Money Pipeline [info@stopthemoneypipeline.com] needs your help on Tues., May 16 for a Twitterstorm to tell JPMorgan Chase: Stop financing fossil fuels! Chase’s AGM is on May 16. Make your voice heard. The AGM comes shortly after the news that JPMorgan Chase purchased First Republic, an acquisition that makes Chase – already the nation’s largest bank and the world’s largest financier of fossil fuels – even larger. In the past six years, Chase financed fossil fuels to the tune of $434 billion. Tell Chase that they can’t stop the groundswell of momentum: Climate action must happen now!
