6] – This is a particularly fraught time in an already difficult year – but it will also be an opportunity for us to join in community, grieve, pray, and replenish our capacities to take action. The JVP Rabbinical Council and its friends are hosting: Resolve and Compassion: Election Week Daily Morning Rituals starting Sun., Nov. 1 through Fri., Nov. 6, each day at 8 AM ET. Tune at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIodu-uqzouGN3h5YYsSnC5nMlYTgJNcd3U?emci=85745f28-e51a-eb11-96f5-00155d03bda0&emdi=117dabf5-ed1a-eb11-96f5-00155d03bda0&ceid=237778.

7] - Usually, the Baltimore Ethical Society, 2521 St. Paul St., Baltimore 21218, meets on Sundays, and generally there is a speaker and discussion at 10:30 AM.  On Sun., Nov. 1, the platform address is “Sacred Democracy.”  For many Ethical Humanists, the collective effort to assure that our system of government honors the worth of every person is as close we get to a “sacred” quest. In this context, the term holds only secular meaning indicating veneration of the democratic process. William MacKintire Salter, who served as Leader at Ethical Societies in Chicago and Philadelphia a century ago, saw democracy as sacred only when it treats every individual as precious and of inherent worth. On the brink of our election, with democracy being challenged by apathy, economic inequality, racial injustice, and voter repression, what does it mean to say that our form of government is sacred? Hugh Taft-Morales joined the Baltimore Ethical Society as its professional leader in 2010, the same year he was certified by the American Ethical Union as an Ethical Culture Leader. See https://bmorethical.org/.

8] – On Election Day, beginning at 8 AM (ET), the Poor People's Campaign will broadcast 15-minute prayers every hour, and hold a special MORE Prophetic Vote Election Night Service from 9 to 11:30 PM (ET).  There is a National Call for Prayer and Service on Sun., Nov. 1 at 11 AM ET. Bishop William J. Barber II will deliver a prophet sermon to the nation at the historic Rankin Memorial Chapel, Howard University entitled "We Know What We Must Do." Following the service, all participants are invited to join a Poor People's Campaign text bank co-hosted by Howard University to text poor and low-income voters to get out the vote and make sure their votes are protected.  Tune in at https://actionnetwork.org/events/national-call-for-prayer-and-service-a-sermon-by-bishop-william-j-barber-ii?link_id=3&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-a-dying-mule-always-kicks-the-hardest&email_referrer=email_980697&email_subject=unleashing-the-power-of-the-poor-peoples-campaign.

81] – According to the People's Power Assembly, Facebook illegally shut down its page which was promoting "If Trump steals the election" a protest on November 4. On the evening of Oct. 28, 2020, 14 organizers who were affiliated with the Baltimore March and Car Caravan for November 4 had their Facebook pages disabled; all were administrators or editors on various Facebook pages that endorsed the action including:  Peoples Power Assembly, Youth Against War & Racism, Prisoner’s Solidarity Committee, Women In Struggle/ Mujeres En Lucha, and Struggle La Lucha.  This action effectively locked down all of these pages denying thousands of members their constitutional rights. The Peoples Power Assembly page which has over 11,000 followers was disabled along with several other pages affiliated with the event.  Prior to this lockout, the Peoples Power Assembly’s main phone was barraged with harassing calls from Trump supporters and calls from the Department of Homeland Security connected to the Baltimore federal courthouse.

Some of the above groups including Struggle La Lucha and Women in Struggle are national and have been targeted.  The PPA in Baltimore has led protests of thousands of people since spring demanding justice against racism and police terror.  There can be no mistake that these actions are an effort to silence that movement. Sharon Black, an organizer with the Peoples Power Assembly, stated: “We take these attacks very seriously, they are a violation of our constitutional rights and are a blatant attempt to shut down organizing for the November 4th march and car caravan in opposition to the possibility of Trump stealing the upcoming election.  It is also an attempt to silence a “Peoples Mandate” which calls for jobs or income now, stimulus for workers, not billionaires; and end to racism and police terror, community control now; health care for all; no evictions, foreclosures, or utility shutoffs; safe work conditions and hazard pay; no wars or sanction, feed the people not the Pentagon.

This unconstitutional and undemocratic attack on the movement is a threat to activists and the general community everywhere, and PPA is monitoring this closely to see if these attacks become more widespread as we get closer to the election.  The group is mobilizing mass support both locally and nationally against these illegal attacks and will also seek legal remedies.  The Peoples Power Assembly is calling a press conference on Fri., Oct. 30 at noon outside of its offices in front of 2011 N. Charles Street, Baltimore 21218, rain or shine. Call 410-218-4835 or visit www.PeoplesPowerAssembly.org.

82] –Thousands of young people across the country are organizing to make sure this election has the biggest turnout this country has ever seen. On Fri., Oct. 30 at 1:30 PM and Sat., Oct. 31 at 11 AM to 1 PM, join for the launch of Victory Fest 2020, a 6-day online event that will give everyone in the movement a chance to help get out the vote. 83] – The Soh Jaipil Lecture Series presents Cold War Cosmopolitanism: Period Style in 1950s Korean Cinema on Fri., Oct. 30 from 2 to 3:30 PM ET as a Virtual Event via Zoom.  RSVP at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/cold-war-cosmopolitanism-period-style-in-1950s-korean-cinema-tickets-113798668882.  South Korea in the 1950s was home to a burgeoning film culture, one of the many “Golden Age cinemas” that flourished in Asia during the postwar years. Cold War Cosmopolitanism offers a transnational cultural history of South Korean film style in this period, focusing on the works of Han Hyung-mo, director of the era’s most glamorous and popular women’s pictures, including the blockbuster "Madame Freedom" (1956). Christina Klein provides a unique approach to the study of film style, illuminating how Han’s films took shape within a “free world” network of aesthetic and material ties created by the legacies of Japanese colonialism, the construction of US military bases, the waging of the cultural Cold War, the forging of regional political alliances, and the import of popular cultures from around the world.

84] –  Come phonebank with Down Home NC and other partner organizations on Fri., Oct. 30 from 3 to 6 PM and 6 to 9 PM and Sat., Oct. 31 from 2 to 5 PM ET and Sun., Nov. 1 from noon to 3 PM, 3 to 6 PM and 6 to 9 PM ET! Help get out the vote during early vote and Election Day. Call and encourage folks to create voting plans and talk to them about progressive candidates up and down the ballot.  To see who is endorsed, check out the endorsement pages: https://downhomenc.org/our-electoral-work/. There is a phone bank on helping the Siegel campaign un-haunt the House by calling voters this Saturday and Sunday!  On Sat., Oct. 31 calling starts at 2 PM ET and on Sun., Nov. 1 at 2 PM ET. 97] – The deadline is 2030. If we want even a chance of avoiding catastrophic runaway climate chaos, then that is the year by which we need to cut global emissions by half. Four more years of Trump will mean we have next to no chance of meeting that deadline, at which point the future of organized human society would be in severe peril. The #VoteTrumpOut campaign is contacting thousands of swing voters on Facebook every day, and your help is needed.  Volunteer Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with the Digital Canvass team, and help flip a crucial swing state! Everyone who can should be giving time to help save our planet from this aspiring tyrant. Sign up here to get started: https://www.mobilize.us/unitedagainsttrump/event/329042/.  Take a slot on Sat., Oct. 31 from 3 to 4 PM ET or 4 to 5 PM ET.

98] – Friends of the Earth Action [info@foeaction.org] is seeking nationwide help to stop the Atlantic Coast Pipeline on Sat., Oct. 31 at 6 PM ET. Help text progressive voters in North Carolina.  The Atlantic Coast Pipeline -- Duke and Dominion Energy’s fracked gas pipeline -- was an environmental nightmare. Help get out the vote in North Carolina.  The ACP would have moved fracked gas from West Virginia through Virginia and into North Carolina. It would have generated more than 67 million metric tons of global warming pollution yearly -- all while threatening local communities, wildlife, and drinking water. One of the pipeline’s biggest supporters? NC Senator Thom Tillis. Tillis is up for reelection in one of the tightest Senate races in the country. If environmentalists show up at the polls, they will kick him out of the Senate. Register at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMocOChrT0pG9abLbRTo-4SCeR3TOAR66WA.

105] – The Trump Administration is again beating the war drums.  Most recently, the target is Iran.  Should the Trump administration initiate an act of war against Iran, consider joining us. It is a violation of U.S. law for the Trump Administration to attack a country that has not attacked us, as only Congress can declare war. The Trump administration is nevertheless beating the war drums for war against Iran and Venezuela. Should a war criminal, John Bolton, convince Trump to attack either of these countries, such a military strike would demand an immediate and unequivocal response from us to show that we will not tolerate his abuse of power.

Let's mobilize to show that we the people will not tolerate another military adventure, which would be bound to have profound negative consequences. If a military strike against Iran or Venezuela takes place, then meet at 33rd and N. Charles St., Baltimore 21218. If the attack is before 2 PM local time, then the event will begin at 5 PM, local time. If the attack occurs after 5 PM local time, then the event will begin at 5 PM, local time, the following day. Contact Max at 410-323-1607 or mobuszewski2001 at Comcast dot net.

A growing group of leaders around the world is calling for the elimination of nuclear weapons and a majority of the global public agrees.  This is an historic window of opportunity.  With momentum already building in favor of Zero, a major show of support from people around the world could tip the balance. When it comes to nuclear weapons, one is one too many.

“One is called to live nonviolently, even if the change one works for seems impossible. It may or may not be possible to turn the US around through nonviolent revolution. But one thing favors such an attempt: the total inability of violence to change anything for the better" - Daniel Berrigan
