28] – EDF Action [takeaction@email.edfaction.org] wants to talk with you on Wed., May 31 at noon ET How Biden’s Clean Energy Plan benefits consumers. We hear again and again about all of the benefits available to consumers in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). But many people aren't aware of how the tax incentives and rebates can benefit them and their families! EDF Action has brought together a team of experts from Consumer Reports and Rewiring America that will help guide us on how to do just that. Register at https://www.mobilize.us/edfaction/event/564694/?edf=238&ub_tg=610&ub_o=3&ub_cta=4&utm_source=mobilize&utm_campaign=edaf_none_upd_mem&utm_medium=event&utm_id=1685025030&utm_term=1685025030.

30] – CCAN [info@chesapeakeclimate.org] is hosting an action member meetup on Wed., May 31 at 7 PM. What's next for CCAN Maryland? The CCAN Action Fund had many victories during the 2023 Maryland Legislative Session, most notably, passing the Promoting Offshore Wind Energy Resources or POWER Act. It will enable us to harness enough offshore wind energy to power every home in Maryland! But what comes next? The organization wants your input! RSVP at https://act.chesapeakeclimate.org/page/52666/data/1?utm_medium=email&utm_source=engagingnetworks&utm_campaign=utm_membership&utm_content=MD-May+Action+Member+Meetup-0523-c3+13:47:39&ea.url.id=1791508.

31] – Massachusetts Peace Action [info@masspeaceaction.org] on Wed., May 31 at 7 PM ET is holding a webinar The Politics of Israel-Palestine in the U.S. Register at https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEpcOysqDsqHdebeAqnqNDbIkXpIWxdw_H5?emci=7c07dc54-68fd-ed11-907c-00224832eb73&emdi=ec00b3dc-89fd-ed11-907c-00224832eb73&ceid=269591#/registration. Every year US taxpayers subsidize Israeli military spending to the tune of almost $4 billion (almost $5 billion in 2022). More $billions are expended to replace tax deductible contributions to so-called Israel -centric “charities” like “US Friends of the Israel Defense Forces,” AIPAC’s “educational” arm or financial support for illegal Israeli settlements on occupied land.

Congress regularly passes legislation proposed by Israel’s US supporters, like the recent H.Res.311 – “Encouraging the expansion and strengthening of the Abraham Accords to urge other nations to normalize relations with Israel,” which, among other things, pledged to continue the flow of US taxpayer funds to Israel. The resolution was adopted in the House, with almost no debate, by a vote of 401-19. The US also makes sure that Israel is not held accountable at the UN for its violations of international law and numerous Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.  Recent opinion polls show that an increasing number of people in the US – and a plurality of Democrats – are skeptical about the nature of the Israeli government, its continuing occupation and illegal settlement building, while denying millions of Palestinians of any political rights. It is commonplace now for international human rights organizations and millions of Americans to characterize this system as Apartheid. Yet the leadership of both parties remains steadfast in financing Israel’s military and resisting any calls to hold it accountable.

This MAPA webinar will look at the politics and influence behind these one-sided US policies toward Israel and Palestine with two well-informed experts.  Lara Friedman is the President of the Foundation for Middle East Peace (FMEP), and Michael Arria is the U.S. correspondent for Mondoweiss, where he’s worked for the last five years.
