I am listing this webinar, but its write-up was an embarrassment. For example, this was part of the promotion for the webinar: "This webinar will describe this deadly relationship and how it has evolved to the point where virtually no dissent, no call for peace, no real understanding of declared adversaries is allowed." Actually, as long as you stay away from the dis-information sites, you can get all of the information you want told truthfully.  Of course, in fascist Russia, dissent is prohibited and freedom of the press will not be tolerated. Even a Peace Prize was not enough to protect Dmitry Muratov, whose media outlet was closed, and he was attacked by a pro-Putin fascist.

57] – Back from the Brink is holding a virtual Open House on Thurs., Dec. 1 at 8 PM ET. Register at bit.ly/BftBDec1.  Get with Back from the Brink: Bringing Communities Together to Abolish Nuclear Weapons and hear about global efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons.

She was one of the founders of MAPA's Palestine/Israel Working Group, and one of the organizers of the Music for Peace concert series.  In Medford, she was active in the Freeze movement, organizing her comrades to march in the militaristic Memorial Day parade, and glad to be represented by Ed Markey when he was first elected to the House.

43] – Ben Jealous, People for the American Way[alerts@pfaw.org] indicates on Wed., Nov. 30 at 7 PM ET there will be a special post-midterm briefing. 44] – The Committee for the Republic [events@committeefortherepublic.org] is hosting Bruce Fein who will address The Counterrevolution against the Constitution on Wed., Nov. 30 at 7 PM ET. You can attend in person at the Capitol Hill Club, 300 First St. SE, 4th Floor, WDC. Or you can participate online at https://zoom.us/j/7812458066. RSVP at Events@CommitteefortheRepublic.org.

The United States Constitution endows Congress -- not the executive branch -- with overriding responsibility for both foreign and domestic policy. But Congress has unilaterally surrendered its constitutional primacy to the President on an installment plan for more than a century. Without constitutional amendments, the President is currently de facto crowned with virtually limitless power eclipsing the authorities of British King George III which provoked the American Revolution. This counterrevolution against the Constitution was born in pursuit of an American empire (initially begun under the banner of “Manifest Destiny”) in lieu of the American Republic ordained by the Constitution’s makers. Committee Vice Chair, constitutional scholar and attorney Bruce Fein will elaborate on the ignored counterrevolution against the Constitution and the self-diminishment of Congress to an inkblot and lay out an agenda to restore separation of powers.

45] – A Democracy Movement Briefing is happening virtually on Wed., Nov. 30 from 8 to 9 PM EST. Join in at ttps://www.mobilize.us/dfadcoalition/event/544408/?followup_modal_context=organization_newsletter_custom_recommendations. There was a nationwide movement to pass the Freedom to Vote John. R. Lewis Act, and there was important accountability work related to January 6th. Discuss what's next with leaders and organizers from across the country to lay out how we'll defend democracy in the new Congress while working to enact the sweeping reforms needed to create a democracy that works for all of us.

46] – There are any number of activities that you might want to plan as part of another Defuse Nuclear War nationwide action.  DefuseNuclearWar.org will provide digital tools and links to facilitate the process, to make it easy for people to send photos and accompanying messages – for genuine diplomacy and measures to prevent nuclear war – directed at President Biden and members of Congress. How about directing messages to Vladimir Putin, who has threatened to use nuclear weapons?

Plans for the “Diplomacy Is the Path to Peace” organizing will be presented as part of a livestream on Wed., Nov. 30 from 8 to 10 PM ET. RSVP at https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_zVqhs9cqTla7PtJRMBYtkw.

The invasion of Ukraine has the potential to become a war extending throughout Europe.  Putin has destroyed Aleppo and Grozny and has threatened the use of nuclear weapons.  Russian soldiers were sent into the area around the contaminated and still radioactive Chernobyl nuclear plant. Now they are stationed in the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe.   People who believe in peace and justice should come forward and take the risks of peace. The Supreme Court is about to hear a case that attacks our freedom to vote and to choose leaders who will deliver for our communities. The conservatives behind this case are not only asking the Court to uphold their unfair district maps; they want the Court to adopt the same far-fetched, far-right theory Trump tried to use to overturn the 2020 election (the Independent State Legislature theory). Tune in at https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_LFPGAeI_SHS4coRjm0xAFA?utm_source=Zoom&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=VRD.

This webinar will be focusing on Trump's appeal to "lost-cause" America and how that links to the war in Vietnam.  Lembcke is a Vietnam Veteran, author several books on the aftermath of Vietnam, such as "Dissenting POWS: From Vietnam's Hoa Lo Prison to America Today", and Associate Professor Emeritus at the College of the Holy Cross. 6] – Consider getting HOSPITALITY, the newsletter of OPEN DOOR: A prophetic discipleship community honoring the Black Jesus, Dorothy Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. The September/October 2022 issue contains a wonderful review by Claire Schaeffer-Duffy of Surely Goodness and Mercy by Murphy Davis, reprinted from The Catholic Worker, March-April 2022.  Davis, a co-founder of the Open Door Community, died in 2020.   You can subscribe to the newsletter or buy a copy of the book by calling 404-290-2047 or by emailing opendoorcomm@bellsouth.net.

7] – Another book to consider purchasing is Male Supremacy in the Catholic Church: An Insider’s View by Roy Bourgeois. His new book is both memoir and position-paper, and it makes the case that the Roman Catholic Church is a corrupt system that spits out truth-tellers. The crime he was excommunicated for was attending the ordination ceremony of Janice Sevre-Duszynska in Lexington, Kentucky, in August 2008. The ordination was under the auspices of the Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests.  The Vatican’s response has been to excommunicate any woman who has the audacity to see herself as a priest equal to a male priest. You can purchase a copy from Amazon or by Kindle.

Here are two quotes to contemplate: “I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men. She is to keep silent.” – Timothy 1, 2:12-13.  “If the patriarchy that dominates the church is not dismantled and women are not treated as equals, the church will continue to diminish and, eventually, die.” – Roy Bourgeois.

9] – Get on a Birdwatching Tour of Patterson Park on Sat., Nov. 26 from 8 to 9:30 AM ET. Meet at the fountain, closest to East Lombard St. and South Patterson Park Ave. There are over 200 bird species have visited Patterson Park, an important migratory stopover in Baltimore City! 12] – Usually, the Baltimore Ethical Society, 2521 St. Paul St., Baltimore 21218, meets on Sundays, and generally there is a speaker and discussion at 10:30 AM.  On Sun., Nov. 27 hear about “The Virtue and Value of Keeping Your Mouth Shut.”  Much of American culture praises those who speak their mind, regardless of the impact of their words.  They like people to “tell it like it is.” This tendency is supported by the assumption that keeping things to yourself is unhealthy. Many believe that regular cathartic truth-telling is necessary to be happy and stay sane. Hugh Taft-Morales explores a perspective where silence can be golden. Come hear how keeping your mouth shut can be good for yourself and good for others. Hugh Taft-Morales serves as Leader of the Philadelphia Ethical Society and the Baltimore Ethical Society and is a member of the Ethical Action Committee of the American Ethical Union (AEU).  Email President@BEMOREthical.org for more information.

19] – Voting Rights: The Struggle To Be Counted (a film showing) can be seen on Sundays, Nov. 27 & Dec. 4 from 7 to 8 PM ET organized for the January 6 Hearings. DC photographer, film producer and social justice activist Phil Portlock is presenting his timely 25-minute documentary. With creative use of music, powerful images and narration by his wife Pat Sloan, the film traces the long and often brutal struggle by African Americans to gain and maintain the unrestricted right to be counted at the ballot box. The film is Phil’s response to the U.S Supreme Court’s June 5, 2013 5-4 decision in the Shelby County v Holder Voting Rights Case that declared Sections 4b and 5 of the historic 1965 Voting Rights Act unconstitutional. This decision has led to the enactment of hundreds of voter suppression/restrictive laws that have impacted voting rights all over the nation.
