3? What is Happening Now? Two leading activists and former members of the
Bolivarian government will speak to these questions, and then answer yours.
Micaela Ovelar, former political advisor to President Hugo Chavez and currently
professor of Political Studies, Government and International Relations at the
Bolivarian University of Venezuela, as well as a member of the "State and
Social Protests" Study Group at the Bolivarian University of Venezuela.

MAGA GOP started mid-cycle redistricting in Texas as a ploy to maintain their grip on the House of Representatives, but they didn’t count on people fighting back in California and now in Virginia. A new (temporary) VA map could yield up to 4 additional blue seats! Democracy is on the line.

29] – Get involved in Fighting Detention Center Expansion on Mon., April 13 from 7:30 to 9 PM. This is a virtual vent, and a link will be communicated before the event. RSVP at https://actionnetwork.org/events/fighting-detention-center-expansion/?link_id=0&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-tomorrow-at-8pm-et-fighting-287g-agreements-no-collaboration-w-ice&email_referrer=email_3184127&email_subject=mon-at-730pm-et-fighting-detention-center-expansion&&#:~:text=Fighting%20Detention%20Center,to%20fight%20back
At the beginning of the second Trump administration, 90% of the country’s 41,500 immigration detention beds were owned or operated by private prison companies. Now, after a year of congressional capitulation and the enormous increase in DHS funding, the Trump administration is proposing to vastly increase is immigration detention bed space, mostly through private contractors and non-traditional prisons such as converted warehouses. Stopping these is a critical area of work, since fewer detention sites available helps to bottleneck ICE arrests, and cooperation from local governments and private corporations is necessary to permit and operate these facilities. Both are vulnerable to public pressure and present key opportunities for chapters to develop long-term campaigns in strategic collaboration with broad coalitions of migrant rights organizations.
30] – There is a virtual Organizing Workers Training Session 1 on Mon., April 13 at 8 PM. A virtual link will be communicated before the event. Are you looking for a new job? Salting, or getting a non-union job and organizing your workplace, is a key tactic that organizers have used for decades to build the labor movement. Learn organizing basics, share information about priority industries, and help you get a job you can organize.
