4] – Barry Lee Burnside, a gaggle of great writers and copy editors are making available “A Bag of Snakes: Selected Writings on Prisons and the Death Penalty by Murphy Davis and Eduard Loring. Edited by Barry Lee Burnside.” Ed indicates the book will be available for sale on April 13, and is asking you to pre-order your copy. Your donation will provide a needed financial boost for the printing costs. The suggested donation is $20 for one copy; and $30 for your copy and an additional copy for a prisoner or someone in need. Any donation is appreciated. More or less you will receive the book.  Barry and the team have spent over two years putting this book together. It begins with outlines and notes found in the boxes of materials Murphy left when she ascended. The work is a work of love, and all involved are proud of the fruit borne by seeds nourished in good soil.

To order by postal mail, make your check to Open Door Community.  Send it to Open Door Community, PO Box 10980, Baltimore 21234.  For any questions, contact David Payne at 404-290-2047 or davidpayne@opendoorcommunity.org.

5] – Another book to consider purchasing is Male Supremacy in the Catholic Church: An Insider’s View by Roy Bourgeois. His new book is both memoir and position-paper, and it makes the case that the Roman Catholic Church is a corrupt system that spits out truth-tellers. The crime he was excommunicated for was attending the ordination ceremony of Janice Sevre-Duszynska in Lexington, Kentucky, in August 2008. The ordination was under the auspices of the Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests.  The Vatican’s response has been to excommunicate any woman who has the audacity to see herself as a priest equal to a male priest. You can purchase a copy from Amazon or by Kindle.

Here are two quotes to contemplate: “I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men. She is to keep silent.” – Timothy 1, 2:12-13.  “If the patriarchy that dominates the church is not dismantled and women are not treated as equals, the church will continue to diminish and, eventually, die.” – Roy Bourgeois.

6] – A home in Baltimore is for sale on a dead-end street in the Lauraville neighborhood, with three bedrooms, and one bath. The yard backs into a field and then a forest. There is a serene and quiet setting with an abundance of wildlife. The owner will be asking a reasonable amount for the property but it will not be overpriced. Contact her by text only at 443 500 6733. On the text, leave your name and phone number, and she will get back to anyone that reaches out.

7] – The Baltimore Ethical Society invites you on Sundays at 10:30 AM for a platform presentation. On March 9, the Zoom presentation will be “Anger is information.” Anger happens. Probably a lot these days. So what do we do with it? How do we take in our anger as information and use it to help us live, uphold, and promote our values? How do we elicit the best in others when we are angry? KC Slack (they/them) is the Senior Clergy Leader at the Washington Ethical Society, in Washington, D.C. Their work as a clergy person, chaplain, academic, and artist is grounded in embodied practice and focused on finding and building beauty into the future. They moved from Los Angeles in 2022, and now live, try every hobby they can get their hands on, and sing along to loud music with their wife and three cats in Capitol Heights, MD. To receive a Zoom invitation, please email president@bmorethical.org.

8] – The Metro DC DSA Social Housing Working Group is hosting a recruitment event and meet up from 2 to 4 PM on Sun., March 9 at the Shaw Library, 1630 7th St. NW, WDC 20001. The group is working to create an alternative to the corporate model of real estate development and to bring deeply and permanently affordable housing to DC. The meeting will review what social housing is and the growth of the movement in the US and abroad. Attendees will also study the history of DC’s fight for social housing and learn ways to plug into the live campaign. It’s critical that the District turns a leaf on gentrification and displacement — and builds housing that actually serves working-class people. RSVP to the meet up to get involved: The meetup will be followed by a happy hour. 13] – Progressive Democrats of America [info@pdamerica.org] wants you to know on Sun., March 9 at 4 PM ET there will be a Town Hall. Hear from Congressperson Ro Khanna and Social Security Work's Alex Lawson and learn how Progressive Policies and Organized Opposition can Defeat Trump. They will share their thoughts on the damage being wrought by the Trump administration, how we can contain the devastation, and why presenting an inspiring vision grounded in progressive policies is the pathway to victory!  Rep. Khanna (CA-17) will explain how we can transform America into a modern manufacturing and technology superpower with good-paying jobs, affordable childcare, and investment in public education. Ro is the co-author of the bipartisan CHIPS and Science law that strengthens semiconductor manufacturing and innovation here at home. He has also traveled across the country to hear directly from Americans in places left behind, as he works on policies to help revitalize those communities.

Two recently laid-off manufacturing workers, Chancie Adams and Quentin McCurty, whom Ro met in Milwaukee, will join him. They were both longtime employees at the Master Lock factory, earning high wages with good benefits and job security–or so they thought, until the company shut down its Milwaukee factory after 100 years and moved production offshore. They will explain how Master Lock had been a pillar of the community, employing 400 people. Its closure was devastating for themselves, their families, and left a hole in the heart of a great American city. Khanna will also talk about his upcoming "Benefits Over Billionaires" tour, which begins on March 23rd in three purple districts in California–the 22nd, the 40th, and 41st. He wants to make clear that as Republicans follow orders to dodge their constituents' protests, progressives must be loud and clear in standing up to the unholy alliance of wealth and power in our time and reject the failed neoliberal policies that value billionaires and corporations over the working class.  Then, Alex Lawson from Social Security Works will demystify the actions of Trump, Musk, and their whole anti-American team, and explain with crystal clarity what they intend to do to the most popular government programs in the history of the country: Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and many others.  Register here and the machine will email you your secure codes: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0tceuhrzsvHdymeeZRwb-i7X50FJa-HMR4#/registration
