18] – On Mon., March 24 from noon to 1 PM ET, gather at Center Plaza, 100 N. Charles St., Baltimore 21201 to rally calling on Senate President Ferguson to reject any bill that removes critical environmental justice protections and approves new gas power plants!

If this bill passes, new power plants could get key state permits without public notice, public forums or without companies having to submit environmental impact reviews and risk assessments to the community. Let’s not allow Maryland to give lifelines to new toxic gas plants.  In the next week or two, Maryland state lawmakers will be voting on a bill that would fast-track the buildout of new methane gas plants in the state. The Next Generation Energy Act (SB 937/ HB 1035) would eliminate key community and environmental protections so that gas companies can start building power plants in our neighborhoods. 19] – On Mon., March 24 at 4 PM, join an Interfaith Day of Action on Immigrant Justice in Annapolis. Join CASA, faith leaders, and communities from across the state to encourage the Maryland General Assembly to pass the Immigrant Justice Package, which includes the Maryland Data Privacy Act, the Maryland Values Act, and the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act. Gather at Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 Rowe Blvd, and then march to Lawyer's Mall for a rally! Please register here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6blMYvWeXpzNPwTeX9pQ52XsUCs96tEwzpDJuBMbypkRufg/viewform

We will gather at Calvary United Methodist Church (301 Rowe Blvd) for the first portion of the day and then march to Lawyer's Mall for a rally. From 6:30 to 7:50 PM, there will be legislative office visits.  From 8 to 8:30 PM, it is optional to watch the proceedings from Senate and House galleries.

20] – On Mon., March 24 from 5 to 6 PM ET, get over to Federal Rights Training: How to tell the government to fork off without being fired. As measles cases rise, schools, healthcare facilities and communities are at risk—not just from the disease itself but also from dangerous misinformation especially when it comes from high-profile sources. This preventable disease is making a dangerous comeback, and now is the time to ensure our members have the information they need to stay safe and keep their families and our communities safe.  Hear from Dr. Vin Gupta, a leading public health expert, and Dr. Benjamin Hoffman, former president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, for a live, interactive town hall to discuss the measles outbreak and how we can prevent further spread.

25] – Susan Barnett [reelandmealatnewdealcafe@gmail.com] wants you to see a film in-person or virtually on March 24 at 7 PM ET. Reel and Meal presents HOW I GOT OVER. The film depicts the deep traumas of 15 formerly homeless and incarcerated African-American women in DC as they grapple with the social causes of their plight and transform their experiences into a sold-out performance at the Kennedy Center. The documentary covers the group’s development over 12 weeks — from acting novices to crafting an original play based on their lives through The Theater Lab’s “Life Stories” program. Deb Gottesman, Co-Founder/Co-Director of The Theater Lab at the Kennedy Center, will lead the discussion following the film.

Come to the New Deal Café at 113 Centerway (Roosevelt Center) in Greenbelt, and enjoy the wide-screen film projection system. 26] – On Mon, March 24 & 31 at 7 PM, the Silver Spring Progressive Action will do a virtual phone bank to activate Wisconsin Dems & win the Wisconsin Supreme Court! RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/756640/?followup_modal_context=nonexclusive_newsletter_more_events_of_type

The April 1 Wisconsin Supreme Court election will have huge effects on voting access in Wisconsin.  Who wins in WI in 2026 could easily determine Congressional majorities. Help elect Judge Susan Crawford, the liberal candidate! Join these phone banks to activate Wisconsin Dems. Call people who have volunteered in the past and invite them to help out again – to canvass, phone bank, and spread the word to their neighbors as well as WI voters. Absolutely no experience required – these are very low-tech phone banks!

27] – On Mon., March 24 from 7 to 8:30 PM ET, join Swing Left in Catonsville for an in-person letter writing to voters. RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/568278/?followup_modal_context=nonexclusive_newsletter_closest

This event's address is private. Start the in-person evening with a 10-15 minute status update, then dive into letter writing. Bring a blue pen, 20 envelopes, and 20 first class stamps. Write letters using an award-winning, proven tactic to reach potential voters in important upcoming elections. The letter writing will continue on Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 PM ET -- April 8 & 22 and May 13 & 27.

28] – Join the Baltimore Nonviolence Center on Tues., March 25 from 4:30 to 5 PM ET at 33rd and N. Charles Sts. to condemn the invasion of Ukraine and the Trump/Vance team which supports Putin’s war crimes. Putin has destroyed Aleppo and Grozny and has threatened the use of nuclear weapons.  And he knows that Trump appreciates how he got Trump elected in 2016. Rather than support Ukraine, Trump hoped to steal Ukraine’s rare earth minerals.  Let us hope that the European Union will provide further support for the Ukrainian people.
