17] – On Mon., July 27 from 11 AM to 1 PM, Help Deliver Eviction Notices to McConnell, McCarthy, Schumer and Pelosi, hosted by the Movement for a People's Party starting in Spirit of Justice Park, across from Longworth House Office Building.  Then deliver the demands to Congressional Leadership to make this last stimulus bill a #PeoplesStimulus and let them know that if they don't pass these demands they will face eviction. Also visit the squad and ask them to refuse to support the bailout bill unless it includes the People's Stimulus demands. RSVP to the Action Network event here: https://actionnetwork.org/events/peoples-stimulus-demands-delivery-to-congressional-leadership. Check out https://www.facebook.com/events/737434840324391/.

18] – On Mon., July 27 from noon to 1 PM, get over to the #FreeTheFamilies Rally at ICE Headquarters, hosted by the Interfaith Immigration Coalition at 500 H St. SW, WDC 20024-2726.  On July 17, faith groups and activists rallied outside of ICE's headquarters to deliver over a quarter of a million signatures demanding that ICE release all the families in its custody. Representatives from ICE refused to accept the signatures.  Join in the second attempt to deliver the signatures and to keep the pressure on ICE to release all families in detention. Experts worry that ICE will separate children from their parents under the pretext of cooperating with a judicial order, so concerned citizens must demand that ICE #FreeTheFamilies together.  Wear masks and keep six-feet of distance.  An alternative to standing out front of the building is to participate from your car by driving by ICE headquarters. Sign up at https://bit.ly/ICErally.  Go to https://www.facebook.com/events/1892381307552742/.

19] – The AOC Organizing Squad [mailto:info@ocasiocortez.com] is concerned about how an undercount in the census affects almost every aspect of the community. Funding for roads, schools, social services, emergency response, and more are influenced by the census count.  ‌Team AOC is hosting a series of census contact phone banks to ask people to fill out the census and recruit volunteers for these efforts. Will you dedicate just a few hours to help prevent an undercount? Make calls on Mon, July 27 through Fri., July 31 from noon to 2:30 PM EDT.  Visit https://www.mobilize.us/ocasiocortez/event/292242/?akid=1189.751982.T78PPw&rd=1&source=em20200724-1189&t=3&utm_source=em20200724-1189.

20] –  On Mon., July 27 from 2 to 7 PM, Resist the US-Duterte Virus, Fight State Terrorism at Howard University Hospital, WDC.  This is part of a People's State of the Nation Address (PSONA). Highlight the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Filipino communities in the US and in the Philippines, and continue a collective solidarity with essential workers and all frontline workers who continue to serve the people.

On July 27, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will be giving the Philippines State of the Nation Address. The administration will report on the "successes" of the country, however, the Filipino people are losing trust in the Duterte administration as ongoing oppression, human rights violations, are increasing while repressive state violence is being enforced, even during the time of a global pandemic.  Visit https://www.facebook.com/events/334608177555728.

25] – This time last month, temperatures in the Arctic soared above 100 degrees Fahrenheit for the first time in recorded history. Not long after, new data revealed that the 12-month period ending in June tied for the warmest year in history. With each shattered record, the urgency of robust climate action becomes more and more shockingly clear.  The scientific consensus tells us we have 10 years to transform our fossil-fueled, extractive economy. At this critical moment, it’s clear that we need an unprecedented level of global cooperation and resource sharing to adequately address the climate crisis. In order to do so, we’ll need to massively invest in things that support people and the planet. We’ll also need to divest from institutions that kill, oppress, and exploit across the globe.

The Pentagon monopolizes the funding we need to meaningfully address the climate crisis. In 2020, military spending accounted for 54% of all federal discretionary spending, a total of $756 billion. By comparison, the federal discretionary budget in 2020 included only $2.7 billion for energy efficiency and renewable energy. The military budget was 272 times larger than the federal budget for energy efficiency and renewable energy.  To learn more about the many links between militarism and the climate crisis, join in on Mon., July 27 at 8 PM ET for a “No Warming, No War” webinar:  https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_SYzv3ArFQB2zVvv6agVzzA?emci=10806620-e1cd-ea11-9b05-00155d03bda0&emdi=35d68029-e9cd-ea11-9b05-00155d03bda0&ceid=4192461.

The bill prohibits U.S. taxpayer funding for the military detention of children in any country, including Israel. 32] – The Century Foundation Events [mailto:events@tcf.org] is holding a discussion of "Let Them Eat Tweets," Populism, and Plutocracy" on Tues., July 28 at 5 PM ET. To a renowned pair of political scientists, Trump’s victory in 2016 with voters in the Heartland who had been hurt most by conservative economic policies wasn’t an anomaly, but rather an affirmation of the GOP’s decades-long strategy to use incendiary identity politics to distract from policies that cater to corporate interests. In their new book, Paul Pierson and TCF trustee Jacob Hacker reveal how an unlikely—yet effective—alliance between populism and plutocracy has undermined democracy as we know it. The authors join Melissa Harris-Perry and Sarah Audelo to discuss the perils of a party no longer beholden to voters; the ways in which President Trump peddles “plutocratic populism,” especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic; and how progressives can counter the GOP’s successful strategy in 2020.
