The invasion of Ukraine has the potential to become a war extending throughout Europe.  Putin has destroyed Aleppo and Grozny and has threatened the use of nuclear weapons.  Russian soldiers were sent into the area around the contaminated and still radioactive Chernobyl nuclear plant. Now they are stationed in the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe.   People who believe in peace and justice should come forward and take the risks of peace. The burial sites continue to expose ruthless war crimes by the invaders, Contact Max at mobuszewski2001 at Comcast dot net or 410-323-1607.

We are seeing an increase in disinformation clearly targeting Arab Americans ahead of the November 8 general election. Typically, these disinformation campaigns are spread online through social media in an attempt to suppress the vote of historically marginalized communities. It is a dangerous threat to our democracy and it requires our immediate action. Text voters in Pennsylvania on Tues., Nov. 1 from 7 to 8 PM ET.  Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman is facing off against anti-choice Republican Dr. Oz. Fetterman supports a transition to clean energy as soon as possible while creating thousands of good-paying union jobs in the process.  RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/350action/event/528616/?source=em20221031-224932&utm_source=em20221031-224932.

We also know that the fight for a truly multiracial, multicultural America is ongoing and more will be demanded of us.  The panel will include journalist Ari Berman. Register at https://www.circle.org/events/remake-democracy?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=b3ac1293-62eb-4ec9-bc66-3ede76f89e46.

This is a police state where demonstrators and strikers are routinely arrested, tortured, jailed or killed.   Discuss the politics of protest in a police state, as well as what’s on and off the official UN climate change conference agenda. On the agenda –fulfillment of a promise made by the US and Western nations to pay the Global South $100 billion every year to address the disproportionate impact of the West’s burning of fossil fuels. 32] – Demand Justice [volunteer@demandjustice.org] is hosting a Rally For Affirmative Action outside the Supreme Court on Mon., Oct. 31 at 8 AM ET. All students deserve a fair shot at going to college, regardless of their family’s finances, where they grew up, or their racial and ethnic background. But systemic and racial inequities still prevent all students from having equal access to educational opportunities. Affirmative action helps to expand higher education opportunities to those who have been historically denied by ensuring that the many talents and experiences of students of color aren’t overlooked in admissions processes that tend to be biased against them. The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in two cases concerning the consideration of race as one factor in college admissions at Harvard College and the University of North Carolina.  RSVP athttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd9tAl4XXHZdStmZaY2nOCT-qMcO3Xb00lgcer57m2-MtFI-Q/viewform?link_id=1&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-clarence-thomas-needs-to-go&email_referrer=email_1718554&email_subject=firstname-default-join-us-rally-for-affirmative-action-outside-the-supreme-court.

6] – Consider getting HOSPITALITY, the newsletter of OPEN DOOR: A prophetic discipleship community honoring the Black Jesus, Dorothy Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. The September/October 2022 issue contains a wonderful review by Claire Schaeffer-Duffy of Surely Goodness and Mercy by Murphy Davis, reprinted from The Catholic Worker, March-April 2022.  Davis, a co-founder of the Open Door Community, died in 2020.   You can subscribe to the newsletter or buy a copy of the book by calling 404-290-2047 or by emailing opendoorcomm@bellsouth.net.

7] – Another book to consider purchasing is Male Supremacy in the Catholic Church: An Insider’s View by Roy Bourgeois. His new book is both memoir and position-paper, and it makes the case that the Roman Catholic Church is a corrupt system that spits out truth-tellers. The crime he was excommunicated for was attending the ordination ceremony of Janice Sevre-Duszynska in Lexington, Kentucky, in August 2008. The ordination was under the auspices of the Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests.  The Vatican’s response has been to excommunicate any woman who has the audacity to see herself as a priest equal to a male priest. You can purchase a copy from Amazon or by Kindle.

Here are two quotes to contemplate: “I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men. She is to keep silent.” – Timothy 1, 2:12-13.  “If the patriarchy that dominates the church is not dismantled and women are not treated as equals, the church will continue to diminish and, eventually, die.” – Roy Bourgeois.

Through grassroots working groups in states across the country, ACS is working closely with the Biden-Harris Administration and other state and local elected officials to recommend qualified and diverse candidates for judicial and other legal positions. ACS is engaged in efforts to protect democracy, advance truth and justice, and transform our laws and legal systems to protect the lives of all people – not just the special interests of a few.

Prior to joining the ACS, Senator Feingold is perhaps best known for his bipartisan effort, with John McCain, to reform campaign financing through the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002. Russ was the only senator to vote against the initial enactment of the USA PATRIOT Act during the first vote on the legislation and was well-known for his opposition to the Iraq War and as the Senate’s leading opponent of the death penalty. Email President@BEMOREthical.org for ZOOM login information.
