29] – On Palm Sunday, Apr. at 2 PM, Occupy Holy Week/Occupy Passover Celebration and Feast of Liberation...March... Freedom Seder begins at Logan Circle, Swann Fountain, 19th St. & Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Phila. and stops in center city to celebrate our resistance to racism, economic injustice, ecological disaster, war and militarism.  There are multiple sponsors including the Brandywine Peace Community.  Visit www.theshalomcenter.org.

 

30] – Every Sunday, 4 to 5 PM, there is a Quaker Peace Vigil at Independence Mall, N. side of Market between 5th and 6th Sts., Philadelphia. Call 215-421-5811.

 

31] – There is a weekly Pentagon Peace Vigil from 7 to 8 AM on Mondays, since 1987, outside the Pentagon Metro stop.  The next vigil is Mon., Apr. 2, and it is sponsored by the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker.  Call 202-882-9649.

33] – Doo-Occupy to Bail Out America ACTION DAY 1 for Eviction Protection & Principal Reduction is happening on Mon., Apr. 2 from 11 AM to 1 PM.  Meet at the L'Enfant Plaza Metro.

34] – This month's A.C.T.O.R. (A Continuing Talk on Race) discussion on Sun., Apr. 1 at 5 PM at Busboys & Poets, 14th & V Sts., will take an anthropological approach to the topic, supported by the ideas and research that went into the creation of the exhibit Race: Are We So Different, which was seen recently at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. 35] – A Conversation with Justice Sonia Sotomayor takes place on Mon., Apr. 2 at 6 PM at UDC Gymnasium Building 46, 4200 Connecticut Ave. NW.  She will be introduced by Wade Henderson, president, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and Joe Rauh Professor of Public Interest Law. 37] – There is usually a vigil to abolish the death penalty every Monday from 5 to 6 PM, outside the prison complex and across the street from Maryland's Super Max Prison, at the corner of Madison Ave. and Fallsway in Baltimore.  Maryland's death row was moved out of Baltimore, but it was decided to continue the vigil. The next one is scheduled for Mon., Apr. 2. Call 410-366-1637.

 

38] – Watch the award-winning documentary: The Last Mountain on Mon., Apr. 2 from 7 to 9 PM at the Univ. of Maryland, 1102 S. Campus Commons, Bldg. 1, College Park.  Beyond the Classroom Living & Learning Program, Critical Conversations on Civic Issues: "People Power" Series presents the film which sounds the alarm about the impact of coal mining on the citizens of West Virginia's Coal River Valley, who are trying to prevent the plundering of one of the last untouched mountains in Appalachia. 39] – Gather at 7 PM on Mon., Apr. 2 in Lawyer's Mall, 100 State Circle, Annapolis.  Encircle the State House to encourage lawmakers to support offshore wind power. Maryland is on the verge of passing historic legislation to promote offshore wind development and build the kind of clean energy economy we all want. But state legislators need to see and hear our power. Speakers will include business leaders, faith leaders, public health advocates and legislators.

 

 A 56-seat charter bus will provide transportation to and from the following locations: Largo Metro Station (Prince George's), Forest Glen Metro Station (MoCo) and the Mondawmin Metro Station (Balt City)--first come, first serve. Buses will depart each location at 5:45 PM. Also, riders get a free "Wind Works" t-shirt and healthy snacks for the trip! There is a request for $5 per passenger. Go to www.350.org.

The "war on terror" has turned into a war on our Constitution; Sections 1021 and 1022 of the National Defense Authorization Act are two of the latest broadsides against the rights of Americans and non-Americans alike. Those sections authorize "indefinite" or "preventive" detentions for charges as vague as committing a "belligerent act" or of "substantially support[ing]" terrorist groups or those "associated" with them.

 

40] –  Support NDAA resolutions in Montgomery County by joining the Montgomery County Civil Rights Coalition 7:30 PM on Mondays, Apr. 2, Apr. 9 and Apr. 16 in the Takoma Park City Council room, 7500 Maple Ave. and hold up a small "SAVE DUE PROCESS" sign. 41] The Pledge of Resistance/Fund Our Communities Baltimore usually meets on Mondays at 7:30 PM, and the meetings now take place at Max's residence.  The next meeting takes place on Apr. 2.  The proposed agenda will include reports on the Iran Pledge of Resistance, anti-drone organizing, the firing of Sunni Khalid, Stanley McChrystal's visit to Baltimore and the ongoing Social Forum.  Call 410-366-1637 or email mobuszewski at verizon.net for directions.
