29] –  Randi Weingarten [E-activist@action.aft.org] hopes you will join in on Tues., June 6 to 13 for a sit-in at the U.S. Capitol to demand a vote on banning assault weapons. There have been more mass shootings in the United States in 2023 than there have been days of the year. And every day Congress fails to act, another community is forever changed by gun violence.  No one should have to live in fear of gun violence. 30] – Join the Baltimore Nonviolence Center on Tues., June 6 from 4:30 to 5 PM ET at 33rd and N. Charles Sts. The invasion of Ukraine has the potential to become a war extending throughout Europe.  Putin has destroyed Aleppo and Grozny and has threatened the use of nuclear weapons.  Russian soldiers were sent into the area around the contaminated and still radioactive Chernobyl nuclear plant. Now they are stationed in the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe.   People who believe in peace and justice should come forward and take the risks of peace. The burial sites continue to expose ruthless war crimes by the invaders, Contact Max at mobuszewski2001 at Comcast dot net or 410-323-1607.

31] – On Tues., June 6 from 6 to 8 PM ET, the Working Families Party is hosting a virtual Text Party for progressives. The Text Parties are to build for municipal and state races across the country, keeping the pressure on Congress to deliver for working people, and building toward future fights! For example, in May/June, text for Virginia Municipal Primaries for a slate of candidates for the VA Assembly, Attorney, and Sheriff, ahead of the June 20 Democratic Primary. 32] – Stop the Money Pipeline [info@stopthemoneypipeline.com] is doing a webinar on Tues., June 6 at 7 PM ET calling for the passage of the Fossil Free Finance Act! Learn how the Fossil Free Finance Act can help protect our communities, our planet and our economy from Wall Street's exploits.  Wall Street banks are financing climate chaos and environmental racism, putting our planet and our economy at risk. We can't trust the big banks to end their profit-driven toxic practices on their own. Fortunately, Senator Ed Markey and Representative Ayanna Pressley have a plan to curb Wall Street’s climate recklessness: the Fossil Free Finance Act. The group meets monthly to discuss the latest news and to plan events. New volunteers are welcome! 34] -- AFSC [actioncenter@afsc.org] on Tues., June 6 at 8 PM ET wants you to join in to end Israeli apartheid.  AFSC is launching Apartheid-Free Communities, a new initiative for change.  Throughout the international human rights community, there’s growing consensus that Israel’s treatment of the Palestinian people meets the international legal definition of apartheid. In late 2022, AFSC convened an interdenominational coalition of faith groups to determine how to respond to this reality, and an Apartheid-Free pledge for faith groups, organizations, and communities to sign was created.

Join in on June 6 to learn more at the launch, the date marks the 56th anniversary of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.  You’ll hear from faith leaders and activists, including Jonathan Kuttab, Rabbi Brant Rosen, and Rev. Wendel Griffen, as well as AFSC staff Dov Baum and Allison Tanner. We’ll discuss the importance of the pledge and how you can help build a wide anti-apartheid movement throughout North America.   Register at https://afsc.org/events/apartheid-free-communities-launching-new-initiative-end-israeli-apartheid?ms=EMA23EP0109PI&sourceid=&emci=1ae04f57-b503-ee11-907c-00224832eb73&emdi=2c2e739c-db03-ee11-907c-00224832eb73&ceid=764241.

35] – Massachusetts Peace Action [info@masspeaceaction.org] wants you to attend on Tues., June 8 at 8 PM ET a webinar Let's Talk about Crimea. Journalist Rick Sterling, who recently returned from Crimea, will be joined by Tamara Lorincz, an activist with the NO to NATO network. Register at https://masspeaceaction.org/event/lets-talk-about-crimea/?emci=2869c6ff-3903-ee11-907c-00224832eb73&emdi=252e739c-db03-ee11-907c-00224832eb73&ceid=320042.  Russia’s Foreign Ministry recently summoned US diplomats from the US embassy in Moscow to object to National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan’s comments suggesting the US supports Ukrainian strikes on Crimea, a Black Sea peninsula annexed by Russia. From Moscow’s vantage point, US-assisted attacks on Crimea are as provocative as direct attacks inside Russia.

To be continued.
