23] – Massachusetts Peace Action [info@masspeaceaction.org] wants you to attend on Mon., June 12 at 8 PM ET a webinar The IMF, the World Bank, and Militarism, hosted by the War Industries Resistance Network.  The International Monetary Fund and World Bank were created after World War II by the victors at the 1944 Bretton Woods Conference. Dominated by the US, both institutions were from the beginning meant to further imperialism. While the IMF became the world’s monetary police and financial gatekeeper from the get go, the World Bank’s early years mainly focused on reconstructing war-torn Western Europe and Japan. A few years later, the World Bank shifted its focus to “developing” the Global South. By the 1970s the Bank proclaimed its mission was to reduce poverty. Driven by Reagan-Thatcher neoliberalism, both institutions launched structural adjustment loans that required borrower countries to adopt austerity measures such as downsizing and privatizing public services, making them unaffordable to the poor. Both international financial institutions plunged countries, especially in the Global South, into debt crises and extracted wealth for the global capitalist class. 25] -- Just Peace Advocates [info@justpeaceadvocates.ca] thinks you will be interested in a webinar on Tues., June 13 at noon ET Why should Naftali Bennett be barred from Canada? Register at https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_gvIpV-_PQrC_-wLBvMoVbA#/registration?link_id=8&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-legal-brief-filed-to-bar-former-israeli-pm-naftali-bennett-from-canada&email_referrer=email_1951731&email_subject=webinarpress-conference-why-should-naftali-bennett-be-barred-from-canada. On May 29, 2023, lawyers filed a request on behalf of a Palestinian-Canadian and three Canadian organizations seeking to have the government declare former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett inadmissible to Canada before he is set to speak in Toronto on June 14. The request contended that Bennett should be denied entry to Canada pursuant to sections 35(1)(a) and (b) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. On June 2, 2023, an application for mandamus was filed in Federal Court. This asks a judge to compel the Minister of Public Safety to make a decision on Bennett’s admissibility. The request to ban Bennett is specifically related to Bennett’s deep involvement in the development of illegal Israeli settlements in the Palestinian West Bank. According to a Peace Now report, the Bennett government significantly increased the development of illegal settlements on Palestinian land. The report also refers to Bennett’s support for the eviction of Palestinian families in East Jerusalem in favor of establishing illegal settler housing units there. In addition, he previously served as a Director of the Yesha Council – an organization that seeks to expand settlements. Canada does not recognize permanent Israeli control over territories occupied since 1967 (the Golan Heights, the West Bank including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip). In fact, according to Canadian policy, the United Nations, and international law, Israeli settlements are war crimes. As the date of Bennett’s planned arrival approaches, a pressing question lingers: will Canada uphold the rule of law?

The invasion of Ukraine has the potential to become a war extending throughout Europe.  Putin has destroyed Aleppo and Grozny and has threatened the use of nuclear weapons.  Russian soldiers were sent into the area around the contaminated and still radioactive Chernobyl nuclear plant. Now they are stationed in the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe.   People who believe in peace and justice should come forward and take the risks of peace. The burial sites continue to expose ruthless war crimes by the invaders, Contact Max at mobuszewski2001 at Comcast dot net or 410-323-1607.
