The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has set the Doomsday Clock to 90 seconds before midnight, but some have said that’s not even close enough. Indeed, with Russian abandoning the New Start Treaty and with Putin threatening to use nuclear weapons, and with both imperial nations having the largest number of nuclear weapons, we have a problem. This webinar will feature speakers Jay Coghlan (Director of Nuclear Watch New Mexico) and Ralph Hutchison (Coordinating Committee of the Nuclear Ban Treaty Collaborative) and present an update on current US nuclear weapons plans, including the Biden Nuclear Posture Review, current modernization of production facilities and weapons systems, the FY23 & FY 24 nuclear weapons budgets, the US role in the global nuclear arms race, and the role of war profiteers.  I hope there is a discussion of Putin's nuclear arsenal. It will also present an update on the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, review the outcome of the First Meeting of States Parties and preview the Second Meeting of States Parties, and will discuss actions and opportunities for building grassroots support for the US to join the Treaty.

46] – Public Citizen [action@citizen.org] wants you to join in on Wed., March 22 at 8:30 PM for a webinar with members of Congress to cut Pentagon spending.‌ ‌This livestream will feature Rep. Barbara Lee, Rep. Mark Pocan, Rev. Dr. William Barber II, and other special guests who will tell you about the newly introduced People Over Pentagon Act and how you can continue supporting it as an activist.  Learn more about how you can take action to put people over the Pentagon. Register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/put-people-over-the-pentagon-tickets-591548807407?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=dffcbe3e-c85b-4e47-a573-682a7edcb66d. Rep. Pocan and Rep. Lee have introduced the People over Pentagon Act which would cut the overall Pentagon budget by $100 billion, freeing up that money for important priorities like climate justice, health care, and education. Rev. Dr. William Barber II and the Poor People’s Campaign are strong and consistent advocates for a more moral budget that prioritizes human security over warmongering and aggression.  Join the discussion.

 To be continued.
