49] – The Vietnam Peace Commemoration Committee [reachout.ffrd@gmail.com] wants you to watch a showing of the film The Whistle Blower of My Lai on Thurs., March 16.  The 55th anniversary of the My Lai massacre on March 16, 1968 offers a special reason to also watch the VPCC webinar about it.  The speakers are film maker Connie Fields, historian Dr. Howard Jones, helicopter pilot Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, composer Jonathan Berger, Kronos Quartet's David Harrington, and music performer Van-Anh Vo.  The viewing provides context to discuss Russia's war crimes in Ukraine and US military refusal to be held responsible for its own as reported by the New York Times on March 8.

Watch the film at https://vimeo.com/ondemand/thewhistleblowerofmylai  $4.99 for 24 hours of streaming.  Or buy the DVD for personal use for $29 from CLARITY FILMS at http://clarityfilms.org/purchase_mylai.html. Or watch the webinar on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uK-Z4ab7izY&feature=youtu.be.  See the webinar chat and Q & A at https://vnpeacecomm.blogspot.com/2021/03/chat-from-my-lai-webinar.html.

The summit brings together the best and brightest minds, from elected officials to tech leaders to grassroots organizers and so much more. Some of the speakers are Joe Vogel, MD State Delegate and Marc Elias, Democracy Docket. 51] – Freedom United [team@freedomunited.org] is holding an event on Thurs., March 16 at 11 AM ET to hear experts answer the question: Are labels like Fairtrade the answer to ending exploitation in supply chains?  From Fairtrade and Organic to Better Cotton Initiative and Marine Stewardship Council, store aisles are filling up with products stamped with vaguely familiar certification logos. But many of us have found ourselves asking: what does it all mean?

Can I trust these certification bodies to tell me this product hasn’t been made with forced labor or deforestation or other social and environmental harms? And are companies sustainable if they source certified products?  Register at JIEB-Belgium-ATs&utm_content=FU-EN-Dec20-JIEB-Belgium-ATs.

52] – Common Cause Maryland [causenet@commoncause.org] hopes you will join Sunshine Week ’23 on Thurs., March 16 at 1 PM ET.  Sunshine week is a week every year dedicated to transparency and open government – and this year, Common Cause Maryland is celebrating it by hosting a training on Marylanders right to public information.  Access to public data is a fundamental pillar of an effective democracy. The Maryland Public Information Act (PIA) ensures public oversight of our state, county, and local governments. It allows Marylanders greater transparency into the workings of our officials, gives us access to data collected with public dollars, and helps ensure a level of transparency vital to a healthy democracy. Learn more about how the Maryland Public Information Act (PIA) can empower you to hold our government accountable and promote transparency in our democracy.  RSVP at https://act.commoncause.org/events/sunshine-week-23-maryland-public-information-act-virtual-training?link_id=0&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-youre-invited-sunshine-week-training-2&email_referrer=email_1846866&email_subject=tomorrow-sunshine-week-training. Hear from Maryland’s Public Access Ombudsman, Lisa Kershner, and S. Spencer Dove, Administrator, who will cover the basics of requesting government records and changes that have been made to the process now that the Equitable Access to Records Act (HB 183) is in effect.

53] – Over the last two years, President Biden has signed over 100 Executive Actions ranging from addressing the COVID-19 pandemic to fighting climate change. But there’s still so much the President can do to advance racial, economic, and gender justice with the stroke of a pen. So what executive actions are the movement fighting for, and what are the limits of executive action?  On Thurs., March 16 at 1 PM ET, join the Congressional Progressive Caucus Center (CPCC) for the latest Big Ideas Briefing - The Power of the Pen: Building Justice through Executive Action, an educational discussion on executive actions. Register at bit.ly/cpcceas.

Banks are failing and just like in 2008, the Federal Government springs into action. Back then all the advantages went to the investor class (who had created the mess in the first place). This time we must be vigilant and make sure, working and middle class people are not left paying the bill.  Learn how PDA can intervene in all of this as ally of working people across the country and the world!  RSVP and the login will be emailed to you:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSecHc4smKi1BcI2M0hKfSWheeyUDh5jn0VLG0UcyO6xrJSLeQ/viewform.

The key to victory is solidarity!
