37] – Tim Marvin, Consumer Reports [action@cr.consumer.org] wants you to join in on Wed., Oct. 6 at noon ET for a webinar on the necessity of a broadband nutrition label.  Consumer labels are an important component of consumer protection. We expect to see standardized labels on vitamins, cars, toys, clothing, and food products — but on broadband internet?  That could soon be the case if the infrastructure package being debated in Congress passes. Included in the measure is a requirement that internet service providers give consumers a “broadband nutrition” label -- a standardized way to compare broadband on things like speed, price, and fees before customers sign up for service. If you’d like to know more about this proposed broadband label, tune in for a two-part webinar co-sponsored by Consumer Reports and New America’s Open Technology Institute -- https://warningthislabelisreallyimport.splashthat.com/.

38] – On Wed., Oct. 6 from noon to 1 PM ET, attend a MAHNA/MHCDC Food Market Support Rally at TRANSAMERICA, 100 Light St., Baltimore 212011515 N. McKean Ave., Baltimore. 39] – Join activists around the country at a virtual phonebank to urge voters in key states to demand their senators’ support of the Freedom to Vote Act! Our democracy is in crisis: with redistricting around the corner and hundreds of voter suppression laws being introduced in states across the country, we do not have time to wait. Every day we’re getting closer to a very real deadline to take action. If the Senate does not overcome the filibuster and pass this legislation, states may not have enough time to implement the legislation’s regulations before the 2022 midterm elections! Join activists around the country at a Common Cause virtual phonebank to urge voters in key states to demand their senators’ support the vote! RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/commoncause/event/376178/ to call on Wed., Oct. 6 from 4 to 6 PM ET and 6 to 8 PM ET.

40] – Phonebank for a Green New Deal with Sunrise National on Wed., Oct. 6 from 4 to 5:30 PM ET.  Sign up to call Sunrisers and ask them to demand a bold climate infrastructure package from their representatives. Sunrise will provide all the training you need and a lot of fun and hype too! 41] – United We Dream Action [info@uwdaction.org] is teaming up to phone bank AZ senators in support of a pathway to citizenship in the reconciliation package!  Undocumented people have been in the front lines of this pandemic as essential workers and have not had access to any relief funds. Call for permanent protection for millions!  RSVP now to join the phone bank on Wed., Oct. 6 from 5 to 8 PM EDT & 7 to 10 PM ET and Thurs., Oct. 7 from 8:30 to 10 PM ET. 43] – Attend a course Principles of Political Economy on Wed., Oct. 6 at 6:30 PM ET and continuing each Wednesday through Oct. 6.  Discover the fundamental laws of political economy and how they can guide policy toward shared and sustainable prosperity. This 5-session course offers a basic introduction to political economy in the tradition of Henry George as presented in his book “Progress and Poverty.” Get introduced to the key concepts, axioms and fundamental laws of the discipline and use this understanding to analyze and explain economic issues in the real world. Examine the causes of poverty and discuss George’s unique approach to the problem. Additional issues such as the alternating cycles of boom and bust that are so characteristic of capitalist economies will be also discussed.  The Instructor is Dr. Marty Rowland.  Sign up at https://www.hgsss.org/principles-of-political-economy/.

44] – Progressive Maryland’s Healthcare Justice Campaign is fighting to Expand Healthcare: Make phone calls to expand Medicare! Push back against PhRMA’s outrageous $20 million lobbying campaign to take away drug price negotiating power in the budget deal. Help call out some of the Democratic House members who are siding with PhRMA instead of seniors and everyone else who would benefit from lower prices for medicines. Join a phone bank on Wed., Oct. 6 from 7 to 8:30 PM ET. As in previous phone banks, make calls to ask constituents to leave patch-through messages for their Representative.  Congress needs to keep holding the line on the Build Back Better Act. Urge your House member to vote no on the Bipartisan Infrastructure bill unless and until the reconciliation bill moves to the floor for a vote. Email patty@progressivemayland.org. Sign up for a webinar about this fight: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_TghtORMdSFGOZetdNUrVzw?link_id=0&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-another-toxic-plastic-plant-in-cancer-alley-2&email_referrer=email_1312199&email_subject=defund-environmental-racism. Formosa Plastics wants to build a massive 14-plant petrochemical complex on the banks of the Mississippi River in St. James, Louisiana. This complex would have devastating and fatal consequences for people living in the area that's already known as Louisiana's "Cancer Alley."  Last month the US Army Corps of Engineers announced it will require Formosa to undergo a thorough Environmental Impact Statement before building the complex.
