] –Join activists around the country at a virtual phonebank to urge voters in key states to demand their senators’ support of the Freedom to Vote Act! Our democracy is in crisis: with redistricting around the corner and hundreds of voter suppression laws being introduced in states across the country, we do not have time to wait. Every day we’re getting closer to a very real deadline to take action. If the Senate does not overcome the filibuster and pass this legislation, states may not have enough time to implement the legislation’s regulations before the 2022 midterm elections! Join activists around the country at a Common Cause virtual phonebank to urge voters in key states to demand their senators’ support the vote! RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/pfaw/event/376178/?utm_source=PFAW to call on Mon., Oct. 4 from 4 to 6 PM ET and Tues., Oct. 5 from 4 to 6 PM ET.

] –  On Mon., Oct. 4 at 7 PM, get involved with Envisioning a U.S. Strategy of Restraint in the South China Sea and Beyond. This summer marked the fifth anniversary of the ruling by a tribunal convened by the U.N. Commission on the Law of the Sea in response to a case submitted by the Philippines against the People’s Republic of China. To note the occasion, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated previous U.S. rhetoric that China was “threatening freedom of navigation” and urged Beijing to “reassure the international community that it is committed to the rules-based maritime order.” But what is the rules-based maritime order? How can the United States best work with countries throughout the Indo-Pacific region to strengthen and improve that order? Is it possible to work with rather than against China in bolstering the rules-based maritime order, and if so, how?  This event is sponsored by the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft with Mike M. Mochizuki, George Washington University; Bec Strating, La Trobe Asia; Gregory B. Poling, Center for Strategic and International Studies; and Shuxian Luo, Brookings Institution. Go to https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/6316323478966/WN_b5L1X6GCTM-jbiTkda7zjg.

] – Molly Amster [molly@jufj.org] is inviting you on Mon., Oct. 4 at 7 PM ET to the Baltimore Action Team's Fall Kickoff event, the Kickoff will be a great opportunity to (virtually) meet other Baltimore folks who want to make systemic change in our region. Register at https://jufj.org/event/bat-kickoff/?sourceid=1020680&utm_campaign=bmore&utm_source=ea&utm_medium=personal-fwd&emci=4e73db07-5c1d-ec11-981f-0050f271a1a2&emdi=95825b6d-911f-ec11-981f-0050f271a1a2&ceid=3403859. Sometimes the issues that Baltimore City faces can feel daunting, or perhaps unsolvable. But working in tandem with like-minded people can help make change not only feel possible, but actually be possible.

] – Our Revolution [info@ourrevolution.com] wants you turn out for the Monday Night Organize to Win Broadcast on Mon., Oct. 4 at 8:30 PM ET.  Get an up-to-the-minute strategy update from Capitol Hill.  Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD) will talk about the budget and strategy on the path forward for policy priorities. Also hear from Our Revolution activists on the work being done to make the Democratic Party a more progressive party at the state level.  RESERVE YOUR SEAT at https://www.mobilize.us/ourrevolution/event/148017/?akid=2096.8252965.9XXwTK&rd=1&t=14. Join call here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/993867009 or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/events/1236103730180461/.  You can submit questions here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScvtKDT25dZytfPLARPiKgoLXRhS0jaGhHSO-eMFteFdZnSNQ/viewform?akid=2096.8252965.9XXwTK&rd=1&t=15.

] – WildEarth Guardians [info@wildearthguardians.org] wants you to get involved with a webinar on Tues., Oct. 5 at 3 PM ET about restoring national forest lands and waters. Hear a conversation with Rep Kim Schrier about the Legacy Roads and Trails Program. It’s a critical time for healing public lands, and this Program can make a huge difference. REGISTER at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_rzm6YGRJQoKYotlvry7drA. Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D., of Washington state talk about the importance of restoring national forest lands and waters. National forests and grasslands spread across ten percent of the U.S. and supply twenty percent of the nation’s fresh water. These public lands are critically important for threatened species like grizzly bear, Chinook salmon, and Mexican spotted owls.

] – Join us in challenging Johns Hopkins University -- Say No to Weapons Contracts at 33rd and N. Charles Sts. on Tues., Oct. 5 from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. Contact Max at mobuszewski2001 at Comcast dot net or 410-323-1607.  You may consider contacting President Ron Daniels and telling him that the university should reject all military contracts, including those for killer drone and nuclear weapons research.  The president’s mailing address is Office of the President, 242 Garland Hall, The Johns Hopkins University, and 3400 N. Charles St., Baltimore, Maryland 21218.  You can also reach his office by Phone: (410) 516-8068, Fax: (410) 516-6097 or email: president@jhu.edu.

] – James Jameson, RepresentUs [hq@represent.us] wants you to join a phone bank on Tues., Oct. 5 from 5:30 to 8 PM ET. Make calls for the Freedom to Vote Act.  Sign up at https://vol.represent.us/a/pb_092121?akid=150392.680940.rFfsIK&ms=ak-em-pdf-20210917&rd=1&t=9&utm_campaign=pdf&utm_content=20210917&utm_medium=em&utm_source=ak&utm_term=.  Senator Manchin just released the groundbreaking Freedom to Vote Act this week. It would make Election Day a federal holiday, ban gerrymandering, and put an end to dark money. But with the Senate vote coming in a matter of days, not enough senators have heard from their constituents pushing them to pass the bill. The Freedom to Vote Act is brand new, so there’s a lack of awareness by both constituents and senators about this legislation – and if we don't demonstrate massive support for it, the bill could fail.

] – Join an Execution Vigil for Ernest Johnson starting at 6 PM ET on Tues., Oct. 5.  The execution of Ernest Johnson is scheduled for 7 PM ET. This will be a live, informative and prayerful on-line vigil. Register here to be a part of the live audience, or watch on the Death Penalty Action Facebook Page.  Register at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_sQRK6k7XSFyllSbkdE0d0A?link_id=4&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-every-day-4&email_referrer=email_1308264&email_subject=watch-live-today-tomorrow-tuesday.

] – Lilly Adams [lilly.ucs@gmail.com] passed on a message from Peace Boat, a Japanese NGO, and ICAN. They are hoping to meet with US-based nuclear impacted communities on Tuesday, Oct. 5, and build relationships ahead of the first Meeting of the State Parties of the Treaty on the Prohibition on Nuclear Weapons.

Dear U.S.-based groups and individuals who are (and work with) impacted communities of the nuclear weapons industry, Peace Boat would like to be in touch.  The group will introduce a World Nuclear Survivors Forum in December 2021, and is inviting you to join an open consultation meeting for US-based groups and individuals at 6 PM EDT on Tues., Oct. 5, as part of the preparatory process. 29] – Amy at Sunrise Movement Baltimore [general@sunrisemovementbaltimore.org] wants you to come to the October hub meeting on Tues., Oct. 5 from 6:30 to 8 PM ET.  This monthly get-together is a chance to spend time together, get caught up on hub activity, and learn how to plug in. 30] – Massachusetts Peace Action [info@masspeaceaction.org] is hosting on Tues., Oct. 5 at 7 PM ET Heidi Peltier, researcher from the Costs of War Project, who will discuss a Stunning Report on Cost of War. She will present the main findings of the report. Learn for yourself just what these wars really cost us. The Cost of War Project at Brown University released its report showing that the costs of post-9/11 wars was a staggering $8 Trillion.  These trillions of dollars are only the extra money the US has paid specifically for those wars. For the most part they do not include the huge Pentagon base budget that pays for everything except for actually fighting these wars. In addition, the report states that over 900,000 people were killed in our post-9/11 wars.  Peltier is a Research Professor and contributor to the Cost of War Project at Brown University. She is also director of "20 Years of War," a Costs of War research series in partnership with the Pardee Center at Boston University.  RSVP at https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcqcuqtqz8pGdS9K0ui1Yq3_XoK2KHuIyuI?emci=64d8053b-d522-ec11-981f-501ac510a405&emdi=6785d93f-f622-ec11-981f-501ac510a405&ceid=269591.

] – On Tues., Oct. 5 from 7 to 8:30 PM ET, join an ACTIVIST COMMUNITY CONVERSATION: The climate emergency and nuclear power.  The Citizens Awareness Network will host a conversation among climate and anti-nuclear activists in Western Massachusetts. They have been working for 30 years to end the use of nuclear power in New England and across the nation, and advocate for responsible handling of radioactive waste. This stranded, forever-toxic waste is amassing at reactors and is “the other environmental crisis” that often gets lost in the climate movement’s focus on fossil fuels. This ACTIVIST COMMUNITY CONVERSATION is an opportunity for people from both “wings” of the environmental movement to hear each other’s perspectives and find ways to unite for a carbon-free, nuclear-free energy future. Invited groups include: Climate Action Now of Western Mass., Traprock Center for Peace and Justice, the Resistance Center for Peace and Justice, Safe and Green Campaign, Sunrise Movement. See www.nukebusters.org. REGISTER at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZItcemqqD8vHdYLUARub9X6h33EV-7wjDhe.

] – On Tues., Oct. 5 from 7 to 8:30 PM ET, get over to Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction: The North Korea Case with Bruce W. Bennett, ICAS Fellow, Adjunct International/Defense Researcher at the RAND Corporation.  The sponsor is Institute the Corean-American Studies (ICAS). See https://www.eventbrite.com/e/icas-fall-symposium-lux-tickets-169895751767.

] – Marcy, CODEPINK [info@codepink.org] wants you to join in on Tues., Oct. 5 at 8 PM ET to urge the Biden administration to suspend the use of Title 42 and allow Haitian refugees to apply for political asylum.  The Biden administration continues to deport thousands of Haitian refugees fleeing political collapse, street violence, and earthquake disruption. While the White House denies Haitians the right to asylum, up to 14,000 Haitian refugees are facing a humanitarian crisis. Under Biden, the Department of Homeland Security has continued to rely on obscure public health law Title 42 to deny Haitians entry into the United States because of the COVID pandemic.  Hear from Patrice Lawrence, originally from Jamaica, is the Co-Director for the UndocuBlack Network, a powerful multigenerational community of currently and formerly undocumented Black people fighting to not only survive, but thrive; and Paul Christian Namphy is the lead organizer of Miami-based Haitian group Family Action Network Movement (FANM). RSVP at https://www.codepink.org/cpcongressrsvpconfirmation.

] –   Want to text with Fair Fight?
