On Wed., May13 from 10 to 11 AM, check out Media Sustainability in
the Age of COVID 19 and Beyond, hosted by the International Journalists'
Network (IJNet). See us02web.zoom.us, and register for the event here: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Qb_vfrS-Re66ALNDgV_MYQ.
Media organizations worldwide were already struggling financially before the
pandemic. Now, at a time when audiences need reliable information more than
ever, many outlets are laying off staff, cutting essential services, or even
closing down entirely. How can media organizations – for-profit, nonprofit, and
public – develop better strategies for sustainability in the face of the
pandemic? What models for diversifying revenue should they consider? What will
happen once the crisis has subsided? Three experts in sustainability will
discuss their views in a webinar moderated by ICFJ’s David Maas, manager of the
International Journalists’ Network (IJNet). Panelists are Lissa Cupp, a
marketing strategy consultant working with tech and media companies to drive
audience and revenue; Nasr ul Hadi, an ICFJ Knight Fellow and partner in the
PROTO learning community for journalists in India; and Janine Warner, an ICFJ
Knight Fellow, and co-founder and executive director of SembraMedia, a
nonprofit organization helping digital media entrepreneurs in the
Spanish-speaking world.
Bring your questions to this post-webinar discussion on May 18! To
participate: Attend the Zoom webinar on sustainability, and you will be sent a
special invitation to this exclusive video chat. The first 20 people to sign up
will be able to join. See https://www.facebook.com/events/273929013788446/.
33] – On Wed., May 13 at
11 AM, catch a Briefing from Mexican Government Officials on the Nuclear
Non-Proliferation Treaty [Online]. Reaching Critical Will is hosting a
series of online government briefings in lieu of the originally planned
in-person briefings at the margins of the NPT Review Conference. Please
note this briefing is for civil society only and off the record. If you
register for one briefing, you are automatically registered for all other
briefings, and can access it with the same link every time. Go to https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJEudeiopj4qE9HGrgwWquUMxNTtASSlpLZw.
34] –
On Wed., May 13 at 2 PM ET, From Tragedy to Reconciliation: A
Conversation with Parents Circle - Bereaved Families Forum. Rami is
Israeli; Bassam is Palestinian. Both have lost their daughters to the conflict
in Israel and Palestine. Yet, both have made the choice to seek reconciliation
and peace with “the other side,” rather than revenge. Join Rami and Bassam,
heroes of the award-winning novel, Apeirogon, by Colum McCann, for a
conversation about their unique choice and why they call each other “brother.”
Two randomly selected webinar attendees will win a copy of Apeirogon by Colum
McCann. Go to https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_5rqsuX3STfe8XZROl_2WPA.
35] –
Join former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich on Wed., May 13
from 4 to 5 PM ET for a discussion of “The System: Who Rigged It, How We Fix
It.” In his new book, Reich, an Economic Policy Institute (EPI) founder,
explores America’s power system that he says is designed to bail out
corporations rather than people, even in times of crisis. Corporations and the
wealthy few benefit from what he calls a socialism for the rich—in which they
hold nearly all of the country’s economic and political power—while everyone
else is left to endure the harsh realities of capitalism. EPI
President Thea Lee will moderate the discussion about Reich’s book and what
life will be like for workers after COVID-19, followed by a Q&A. After
registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about
joining the webinar. Register for the webinar at https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_aUx2aZ04QPuAlCYvwWRojQ?utm_source=Economic+Policy+Institute&utm_campaign=e67fa0fe7a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_10_02_06_32_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e7c5826c50-e67fa0fe7a-59830565&mc_cid=e67fa0fe7a&mc_eid=72ea77dbdd.
36] – There
is a call to discuss the case of the assassination of Ahmaud Arbery on Wed.,
May 13 at 6 PM ET. Gregory and Travis McMichael have been charged. Did William “Roddie”
Bryan who took the video act as an accomplice? DA Jackie Johnson should be
disbarred and removed from office for blocking the arrest on day one, the day
Ahmaud was murdered. Georgia’s Attorney General just filed a formal request for
the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate the case. That wouldn't have
happened without millions of people like you signing petitions, making phone
calls, and running in solidarity. RSVP https://go.theactionpac.com/signup/ahmaud-call-20200513/?akid=212.3544589.wCa5eh&rd=1&source=ema20200511-212&t=2.
37] – Dispatch
from the Frontlines: Gender Inequality and COVID-19 is the theme of a digital
town hall which will take place on Wed., May 13 at 6:30 PM ET. Women are
on the front lines of the COVID-19 response, and yet they are more likely to
lose their jobs, are often the caretakers at home, and in some cases, their
rights are under direct attack. As Congress considers the next coronavirus
relief package, we need to demand that these inequalities are addressed.
One of the special guests will be Rep. Rashida Tlaib and the We Demand More
Coalition. Sign up at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/7415890445429/WN_2TrcWRAiSwOvJ_GtjS0sCQ?link_id=1&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-tomorrow-gender-inequality-covid-19&email_referrer=email_801664&email_subject=tomorrow-gender-inequality-covid-19.

candidates and promote Our Revolution events. Check out https://www.mobilize.us/ourrevolution/event/256851/.
39] – On Wed., May 13
from 6:30 to 8 PM, Jews United for Justice is launching a Call to Action:
Fighting for a Just Recovery in the DC Budget. Make sure that D.C.'s budget
prioritizes a just and equitable recovery from COVID-19. Rally against the
corporate special interests trying to take advantage of this crisis to lobby
for their own bottom line on the backs of ordinary DC residents and small
businesses. You will receive call-in instructions via email after you
RSVP. Visit https://jufj.org/event/recovery-launch/?contactdata=8bh74SjHMnJZivAhZ57BBnYmCdOGTeHko5LmLbV1%2fMgvQCcPCO3Erz56gaJdiccLU8nKeXk4sti0%2bsjPn%2bApsQ%3d%3d&emci=426a668d-9c93-ea11-86e9-00155d03b5dd&emdi=b82febf1-6f94-ea11-86e9-00155d03b5dd&ceid=3403859.

States, Mikko Jimenez and Chad Witko, outreach biologists for Audubon’s

41] – Join CCAN for
a discussion of the documentary "Current Revolution." This movie
examines how a combination of distributed energy and robust electric vehicle
infrastructure can massively improve our electrical grid. From the film’s
description, “Through interviews, observational and archival footage with top
executives, military personnel, utility workers, elected officials, and others,
the documentary tells the story of a towering American industry on the brink of
massive change.” Watch the documentary ahead of time: https://www.amazon.com/Current-Revolution-Transforming-Americas-Electric/dp/B07RN12YWJ.

for a Green Stimulus Bill?" You can get the call by the instructions
below, or by visiting the web site at www.chears.org/gcan.
Most of the meeting will be discussing several articles. As a nation we
are currently facing three converging crises: the COVID19 pandemic and the
resulting economic recession; the climate emergency; and the extreme inequality
in how this pandemic affects different populations. Explore some proposals that
climate and social policy experts have developed - a sort of “menu of
solutions” - that would collectively comprise a Green Stimulus to meet these
challenges. You can read the articles by going to the web site, and see
