Christi USA through Sun., April 12 at 11:30 PM. Each week, since so many
of us are under "stay at home" orders, self-quarantined, on lockdown,
etc. during this pandemic, Pax Christi USA will recommend a "movie of the
week" for us to watch and discuss in solidarity. This week, in observance
of the anniversary of the martyrdom of MLK on April 4th, folks chose the
documentary "13th" which "explores the 'intersection of race,
justice, and mass incarceration in the United States;' it is titled after the
Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, adopted in 1865, which
abolished slavery throughout the United States and ended involuntary servitude
except as a punishment for conviction of a crime." Check it out on Netflix

Do
you want to feel good about the state of the American industry and the
treatment of its skilled labor force? Then skip this flick, an award-winning
look at a defunct General Motors plant in Dayton, Ohio which is given a new
lease on life when a Chinese billionaire invests in it as a new glass-making
facility for his company, Fuyao. If you’ve ever worked on a factory floor or been
part of either side of the picket line, you know how this story goes. It
screened at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival where it won the Best Documentary
award and got the attention of Netflix. “American Factory” tells of the plight
of the skilled labor force, be they American or Chinese, as easy victims of the
rich and powerful, be they American or Chinese. And it’s also the story of the
American Dream, and whether that’s a fact or a fallacy. Check out https://www.facebook.com/events/1053074841745393/.

Riofrancos & Daniel Aldana Cohen discuss their book “A Planet To Win,” hosted
by Red Emma's Bookstore Coffeehouse and The Democracy
Collaborative. Look at https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_qkBKzeIAQWm7s6709J5PZA.
The book explores the political potential and concrete first steps of a Green
New Deal. It calls for dismantling the fossil fuel industry, building beautiful
landscapes of renewable energy, and guaranteeing climate-friendly work,
no-carbon housing, and free public transit. And it shows how a Green New Deal
in the United States can strengthen climate justice movements worldwide.
In the twenty-first century, all politics are climate politics.
The age of climate gradualism is over, as unprecedented disasters are
exacerbated by inequalities of race and class. We need profound, radical
change. A Green New Deal can tackle the climate emergency and rampant
inequality at the same time. Cutting carbon emissions while winning immediate
gains for the many is the only way to build a movement strong enough to defeat
big oil, big business, and the super-rich—starting right now. Crises present
opportunities. We stand on the brink of disaster—but also at the cusp of
wondrous, transformative change.

The
Trump Administration is again beating the war drums. Most recently, the
target is Iran. Should the Trump administration initiate an act of war
against Iran, consider joining us. It is a violation of U.S. law for the Trump
Administration to attack a country that has not attacked us, as only Congress
can declare war. The Trump administration is nevertheless beating the war drums
for war against Iran and Venezuela. Should a war criminal, John Bolton,
convince Trump to attack either of these countries, such a military strike
would demand an immediate and unequivocal response from us to show that we will
not tolerate his abuse of power.
Let's mobilize to show that we the
people will not tolerate another military adventure, which would be bound
to have profound negative consequences. If a military strike against Iran
or Venezuela takes place, then meet at 33rd and
N. Charles St., Baltimore 21218. If the attack is before 2 PM local
time, then the event will begin at 5 PM, local time. If the attack
occurs after 5 PM local time, then the event will begin at 5 PM,
local time, the following day. Contact Max at 410-323-1607 or

A growing group of leaders around the world is calling for the elimination of
nuclear weapons and a majority of the global public agrees. This is an
historic window of opportunity. With momentum already building in favor
of Zero, a major show of support from people around the world could tip the
balance. When it comes to nuclear weapons, one is one too many.

“One
is called to live nonviolently, even if the change one works for seems impossible.
It may or may not be possible to turn the US around through nonviolent
revolution. But one thing favors such an attempt: the total inability of
violence to change anything for the better" - Daniel Berrigan
