(Twitter: @DecrimNatureDC; Instagram: @decrimnaturedc).

What is Bicycle Day? It is a celebration of the fateful day of April 19th, 1943, when Albert Hoffman took the modern Western world’s first psychedelic trip. Five years after first synthesizing LSD, which was derived from a rye fungus called ergot, Albert Hoffman tested the properties of the compound by taking what he expected to be a very mild dose – .25 grams (250 micrograms). He then asked his assistant to accompany him home and he rode his bike while tripping through the streets of Basel, Switzerland. He was quoted in his book LSD: My Problem Child as saying: “Everything in my field of vision wavered and was distorted as if seen in a curved mirror. I also had the sensation of being unable to move from the spot. Nevertheless, my assistant later told me that we had traveled very rapidly.”  Tune in to https://www.facebook.com/events/1393507514167038/.
