turn down contributions over $150 and all contributions from corporations,
unions and PACs, can receive limited matching funds for small contributions

25] -- On
Mon., Mar. 9 from 6 to 8 PM, go to a Vigil for Nathaniel Woods, hosted
by Wet'suwet'en Solidarity - DC and Justice for Muslims
Collective at Columbia Heights Civic Plaza, WDC. On March 5th, Alabama executed
Nathaniel Woods, a Black Muslim who was wrongfully convicted, in a
heartbreaking and enraging act of state violence. Despite a trial full of
well-documented injustices and a lack of evidence to convict him, Alabama
callously pursued the death penalty, a violent punishment that the state should
never use on anyone. Through the hard work of advocates, the Supreme Court
finally issued a stay of execution on Thursday, only to lift that stay hours
later. Alabama's governor, Kay Ivey, could have intervened, but instead chose
to actively support his murder, with no regard to the clear fact that he was
not guilty. They are all responsible for this reprehensible act.
To learn more about Nathaniel Woods and his execution, please read
this article: https://www.theroot.com/the-spectacular-assassination-of-nathaniel-woods-1842156170.
At the same time, the NO BAN Act is facing an upcoming vital vote in the House
of Representatives. The Act will end Trump's Muslim ban and strengthen civil
rights. The murder of Nathaniel Woods and the NO BAN vote are a reminder that
the United States actively uses racial discrimination against both those coming
to this country and those already in it, with deadly consequences in both
cases. You can learn more about the NO BAN Act here: https://muslimadvocates.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/NO-BAN-Act-Summary-FINAL-040819-1.pdf.

Love is not merely a feeling. Love is an immeasurable force that
connects us. Trusting this force is one of the most important challenges we
face. There are people who serve as role models, people who act within and
through connections. This film is dedicated to them and their stories. In times
of constant crisis, problems and catastrophic news reporting all over the
world, the Austrian filmmaker Erwin Wagenhofer felt the pressuring need to
counteract this consuming negativity by portraying stories of hope, positive
change and engagement: Illiterate women becoming solar engineers in India; a
Swiss couple turning wasteland in La Palma into paradise; a former Austrian
forester developing the healthiest houses on earth; or the Dalai Lama, one of
the spiritual leader of our times spreading essential messages and his Tibetan
sister with a big heart for the youth. The film “But Beautiful” is connecting
every single one of them. It is a film about human connectedness and the
courage to change. It is a film about the freedom to be happy.
On Tues., March 10 from 7 to 9 PM, see the film at the Embassy of
Austria, 3524 International Ct. NW, WDC 20008. The screening will
be followed by a Q&A with director and producer Erwin
Wagenhofer and producer Sabine Kriechbaum, with whom he wrote the
screenplay and published a book with the same title. Parking on
International Court is available after 6:30 PM or on 36th Street; and access to
the Embassy is through the park behind the building.
