25] – Susan Barnett [reelandmealatnewdealcafe@gmail.com] wants you to attend the Reel and Meal on Mon., May 19 at 6:30 PM ET the hybrid showing of Singing for Justice: The Faith Petric Story (1915-2013). She was a radical voice that shaped a century of American activism. Arrive/Log on by 6:15 PM. The showing will be at the New Deal Café at 113 Centerway (Roosevelt Center) in Greenbelt. Registration is required:  https://tinyurl.com/RnMMay25

Faith Petric used folk music to inspire action and solidarity at civil rights marches, anti-war protests, and events supporting labor and LGBTQ+ rights. "In times of darkness, Faith showed that a well-sung song could light the way forward," says Estelle Freedman, director of the film, who will attend the screening on Zoom. DC Labor Chorus Director Elise Bryant will lead the post-film discussion. The program also includes a special performance by the acclaimed D.C. Labor Chorus.

The Reel and Meal at the New Deal Café is a monthly film series focused on environmental, social justice and animal rights issues. For more information about this month’s film contact justpeacepg@gmail.com or the Reel and Meal Facebook page: www.facebook.com/reelandmealNDC

26] – On Mon., May 19 at 7 PM at the United Methodist Building, 100 Maryland Ave. NE, WDC, you are invited to gather in the spirit of justice and moral witness for a powerful National Sermon. Come together for "Moral Courage in a Time of Crisis", a prophetic word from Bishop William J. Barber II. Visit https://secure.everyaction.com/ApnxbEa9U0yff72sWvsAjw2

This gathering is more than a sermon—it is a sacred summons to all who refuse to be silent in the face of an immoral federal budget. Clergy, community leaders, and moral witnesses are encouraged to attend and anchor the resistance in faith, deepen the commitment to justice, and prepare for action. Come, be renewed in purpose, trained in truth, and united in the call to repair what greed and injustice have broken. A livestream is available at www.breachrepairers.org.

It is not new or secret. Decades of studies, plans, and internal policies have done nothing to reduce it. The Pentagon has long known about the significantly increased risk of domestic violence by combat-exposed troops, yet has failed to properly inform military members or their families, and has violated laws mandating reporting on the problem. RSVP here! https://worldbeyondwar.org/yellowribbon/?clear_id=true&link_id=1&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-join-us-in-dc-on-monday&email_referrer=email_2738967&email_subject=join-us-in-dc-on-monday
