20] – JOIN a WEBINAR Climate justice in a militarized world on Tues., Sept. 24 11 AM ET. War and militarism are major contributors to climate change and environmental devastation. In this webinar, AFSC staff and partners will discuss those impacts on the communities it works with in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and the United States. Learn how people worldwide are working toward climate justice and a sustainable future where all people can thrive.

AFSC staff and Partners will talk about their work and experiences in the U.S., Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa supporting efforts to realize climate justice and challenging the devastating impact that war and militarism on the environment.  Learn from their experiences and the discussion of actions you can take to make a difference.  This webinar is being held in coordination with the Global Week of Action for Peace and Climate Justice.

War and militarism have helped to cause climate breakdown. War destroys lands and ecosystems, polluting water, soil and air, while leaving behind toxic remnants and unexploded weapons that cause harm generations after a conflict ends. The world's militaries account for 5.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions; emissions which are still excluded from global climate agreements. Military industries depend on vast amounts of metals, minerals and fossil fuels; and military spending diverts resources from climate action.  But we do have alternatives that can both protect ourselves and the planet.  Sign in at  https://afsc.org/events/climate-justice-militarized-world?ms=EMA24WR0921&utm_source=weekendreading0921&utm_medium=email&emci=93e8eb8c-6877-ef11-991a-6045bdee6681&emdi=f900e73d-1578-ef11-991a-6045bdee6681&ceid=764241

Colonial violence - and the militarized legacies that persist today - are at the root of global inequality, ecological devastation, and perpetual conflict that is driving the triple planetary crisis. This panel, co-hosted by 350.org and the National Priorities Project at the Institute for Policy Studies, will discuss how ongoing militarization in the Middle East, the Pacific, and on the African continent intersect, how Indigenous communities resisting colonial exploitation are the frontline against the climate crisis, and why environmental justice is key to our collective security.
