These virtual events offer an opportunity for Marylanders to connect with our elected state representatives about meaningful harm reduction policies. You can register to participate in the advocacy days, where you’ll also find the full agendas for this week’s events: https://actionnetwork.org/events/harm-reduction-advocacy-days-2022?emci=3208a0b3-ed82-ec11-94f6-c896650d4442&emdi=86dadabe-f182-ec11-94f6-c896650d4442&ceid=136680.

39] – Molly Amster, Jews United for Justice [info@jufj.org] wants you to attend a Watch Party for a Senate Hearing on Access to Counsel in Immigration Proceedings on Thurs., Feb. 3 from 1 to  3 PM.  This will be a Zoom Video Conference of the Senate Judicial Proceedings hearing of the Access to Counsel in Immigration Proceedings program with JUFJ! The hearing is scheduled to begin at 1 pm, but the exact time the bill will be heard is unclear. As of now, the bill is scheduled to be heard 6th. 40] – More than a year has passed since Joe Biden took office and the United States has yet to rejoin the Iran nuclear deal, or JCPOA. While U.S. and European powers are warning that time is running out and hint at a potential shift toward a Plan B, Tehran insists that assurances must be provided that the United States will honor its commitments to the agreement this time around. The Raisi government has proven a more uncompromising counterpart than its predecessor and the Biden negotiating team has few insights into its calculations and political limitations. What are the political constraints of the Raisi government and how do they shape Iran’s negotiating position? How has the economic impact of America’s maximum pressure shaped the politics of Iran, and in extension, Tehran’s diplomatic maneuverability? And what options do the U.S. and its European allies have if the JCPOA talks collapse?

On Thurs., Feb. 3 at 1 PM ET, get answers at Are the JCPOA Negotiations on Their Last Legs? [Online].  THIS EVENT is sponsored by the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft with speakers Nathalie Tocci, Special Advisor to EU High Representative Josep Borrell; Hadi Kahalzadeh, Brandeis University; and Narges Bajoghli, Johns Hopkins University. Trita Parsi, Quincy, will moderate. RSVP at https://quincyinst.org/event/is-the-jcpoa-on-its-last-legs/.

41] – The  Campaign for Peace Disarmament and Common Security [jgerson80@gmail.com] is letting you know  that on Thurs., Feb. 3 from 2 to  3 PM ET, there is a webinar On the Brink: Understanding the Ukraine Crises & Paths Toward a Just Peace.  Register at https://tinyurl.com/3euus82h.  With Massachusetts and Chicago Peace Action, and with the International Peace Bureau, CPDCS has organized an extraordinary webinar with Richard Sakwa and Nina Khrushcheva about the current Ukraine crisis, its background, and steps that can be taken to prevent war and to move toward a just peace.  Sakwa is Professor of Russian and European politics at the University of Kent and associate fellow of the Russia and Eurasia program at Chatham House. Khrushcheva is Professor of International Affairs at The New School in New York and an editor of and a contributor to Project Syndicate: Association of Newspapers around the World.  Their book Searching for the Soul of an Empire across Russia’s Eleven Time Zones is available at https://www.amazon.com/Putins-Footsteps-Searching-Empire-Russias/dp/1250163234.

42] – Karen Guberman <krguberman AT gmail. com> is suggesting that you protest the Beijing Olympics, #NOBEIJING2022,  on Thurs., Feb. 3 at 3 PM EST at the Chinese Embassy, 3505 International Dr. NW, WDC  on Van Ness St. NW, across from the Israeli Embassy and the University of the District of Columbia. This protest is co-sponsored by the Uyghur Human Rights Project among other groups.  Visit the Uyghur Human Rights Project at https://uhrp.org. The Adas Israel Uyghur Response Team organizes this regular monthly protest of the Uyghur Genocide.

43] – Get involved with Voter Protection Phone banks with Common Cause and call voters in targeted states and connect them to their senators to drive calls of accountability and appreciation around the vote on the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act. And begin to advocate for No Excuse Absentee Voting in Delaware and recruit poll monitors for the Texas primary.

On Thurs., Feb. 3 from 6 to 8 PM EST, in partnership with Indivisible Northampton, call Texas voters to recruit them to be poll monitors in the upcoming Texas primary. On Fri., Feb. 4 from 4 to 6 PM, call Texas voters to recruit them to be poll monitors in the upcoming Texas primary.

44] –  For the Freedom To Vote Act, there is phone bank training & calling into West Virginia with a patch through to Senator Manchin on Thursdays from 6 to 8 PM.  This will continue through Mar. 31. You will need a computer and a telephone (cell or house). Unfortunately, tablets and iPads are incompatible with ThruTalk and will not work effectively. You will also need to download a web browser like Chrome or Firefox. Safari is incompatible with ThruTalk. With over 400 state bills introduced by extremist lawmakers--including in West Virginia--aiming to put up barriers to vote just this year, we cannot afford to fail to pass this bill.  Sign up at https://www.mobilize.us/dfadcoalition/event/409469/.

45] – Join the Webinar on Thurs., Feb. 3 at 6:30 PM ET with Camila Saab, wife of Venezuela diplomat and US political prisoner Alex Saab, & Puerto Rican former political prisoner Oscar Lopez Rivera. Alex Saab is a Venezuelan diplomat the US government has illegally seized and imprisoned for what the US considers “violation” of the illegal US economic warfare on Venezuela. He was in fact assisting Venezuela in legally working around the US blockade on his country by finding the means to import food, medicine, and materials for the Venezuelan oil industry. The US is seeking to coerce Alex Saab into disclosing the methods Venezuela uses to circumvent the US-Canadian-European sanctions with the goal of further tightening the economic blockade and suffering on the Venezuelan people.  Sign up at https://chicagoalbasolidarity.org/2022/01/27/webinar-february-3-with-camila-saab-wife-of-venezuela-diplomat-and-us-political-prisoner-alex-saab/?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=0e6cd7d2-bbb3-434d-aa1b-5815ec639798.

RSVP at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYkdO6tqjojHtGzuy3mbAYMarErAKrfVHXG. The Nation calls her the "future of the Democratic Party." News reports that progressive Jessica Cisneros has big momentum following key endorsements and an FBI raid of her incumbent opponent, Rep. Henry Cuellar.

47] – Nancy Pelosi [info@pelosiforcongress.org] is inviting you on Thurs., Feb. 3 at 8 PM ET to Celebrate Black History Month with Congresswoman Lauren Underwood.  The plan during the month is to celebrate Black leaders and activists who have built and shaped our country and recommit to fighting for liberty, justice and equality for all.  Congressional Black Caucus member, Lauren Underwood (IL-14), is a registered nurse and health care policy expert who co-founded the Black Maternal Health Caucus and has worked tirelessly to strengthen health care.  Register at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/1016437740912/WN_5TVbg_VSSSKjchZ7wWOtCQ.
