BAP was founded on April 4, 2017, 50 years after Martin Luther King, Jr’s historic Riverside Church anti-war speech. Baraka stated then that BAP’s purpose is”to recapture and redevelop the historic anti-war, anti-imperialist, and pro-peace positions of the radical black movement.”  Baraka will use an anti-imperialism lens to address 1) US involvement in Africa and the BAP ‘Shut Down AFRICOM’ campaign, 2) the US push for dominance of China and the threat of a cold, or hot, war, 3) the development of BAP since its founding nearly five years ago, as well as other issues and BAP campaigns. 46] – Laura Wallace [info@jufj.org] suggests that you should join in on Wed., Feb. 16 from 7:30 to 9:30 PM ET for a Jews United for Justice Maryland Community meeting.  There have already been lots of twists and turns this legislative session - including changes to Senate testimony guidelines and protocols - and as the legislative session continues, there will be more.  There is only one month away from Crossover Day, which is the deadline for bills to move from one chamber of the General Assembly to the other through normal order. Bills that don't pass through either chamber will need to go through a more complicated process and will therefore face a more difficult path to full passage.  At this meeting, you can join JUFJ 101 for newer folks, and a schmooze session for returning JUFJers at 7:30 PM. The full meeting will begin at 8 PM, and there will be a discussion of campaign updates, testimony, upcoming events and organizing opportunities, and where to take urgent action. 47] – Lilly Dragnev, Peace Action [info@peaceaction.org] is inviting you on Wed., Feb. 16 from 8 to 8:30 PM ET to meet Jessica Cisneros, a pro-peace candidate running for Congress in the 28th district in Texas.  The primary in Texas is just around the corner – March 1st. Meanwhile, a federal grand jury continues to issue subpoenas for Rep. Henry Cuellar, his wife, and staffers. This man has gotten too cozy with shady international corporations, and this is our chance to vote him out and replace him with a progressive, pro-peace candidate!
