5] – On Sun., Sept. 13 from 8:15 to 10:30 AM, Walk for Change in Old Town, Alexandria.  Start at Misha's Coffeehouse, 102 S. Patrick St., Alexandria, VA 22314. Every Morning, Walk. Wear shirts or carrying signs with positive messages of Equality. The only prerequisite is an able body, loving heart and a dedication to ACTION for change and EQUALITY. Each member has taken action and contributed $ to a BLM cause and continues to keep the MOVEment alive through Daily Walks. Check out https://www.facebook.com/events/250840709478673/?event_time_id=250840719478672.

6] - Usually, the Baltimore Ethical Society, 2521 St. Paul St., Baltimore 21218, meets on Sundays, and generally there is a speaker and discussion at 10:30 AM.  On Sun., Sept. 13, the platform address is “The Joy and Perseverance of John Lewis.” Ten days before he died, Rep. John Lewis stood at Black Lives Matter Plaza opposite the White House looking as determined as he did at 23 years old speaking at the March on Washington.  All his life his gentle persona belied his strength, courage, and resiliency. Even when a storm threatened to tear his aunt’s home from the earth, John Lewis “walked with the wind,” hand-in-hand with 14 other children to hold down each corner when it began to lift.  As the whirlwind of current events threaten to tear apart our foundation, let us remember some lessons taught by someone Barack Obama eulogized as “a man of pure joy and unbreakable perseverance.” Hear from Hugh Taft-Morales who joined the Baltimore Ethical Society as its professional leader in 2010, the same year he was certified by the American Ethical Union as an Ethical Culture Leader. Email ask@bmorethical.org. Visit https://bmorethical.org/?post_type=dd_events&p=4224.

7] – On Sun., Sept. 13 from 11 AM to 12:30 PM ET, get with Free Food Distribution - Fresh fruits & vegetables, hosted by the Indian Cultural Association of Howard County, Maryland. 8] – On Sun., Sept. 13 from 11 AM to 1 PM, attend the Baltimore Humane Society's Annual Animal Memorial Sunday.  This event will be held online. Expect special speakers, musical guests and more.  Everyone who has ever lost an animal or who is facing end of life decisions is welcome to attend. You do not need to have an animal buried in the cemetery to attend this event. Visit https://bmorehumane.org/.

9] – Our Neighbor L3Harris: Settler Colonialism of Palestine is the topic of discussion on Sun., Sept. 13 from 4 to 5 PM. Did you know L3Harris supplies weapons and surveillance equipment for settler colonial states around the globe? L3Harris is an accomplice in settler colonialism and state violence. In occupied Palestine, L3Harris has aided the Israeli settler state’s apartheid regime by providing screening technologies and surveillance equipment for checkpoints and the Apartheid Wall to restrict Palestinian mobility. L3Harris has played a supporting role in Israel’s brutal attacks on Palestinians in Gaza and in the illegal siege of the territory by supplying the Israeli military with weapons. Register here bit.ly/OurNeighborL3Harris2.

10] – Join the Healthcare Emergency Virtual Town Hall on Sun., Sept. 13 at 4 PM ET.   As the death tolls rise due to Trump's incompetence, join in to discuss how to stay safe in this pandemic, along with campaigns you can join to make America a healthier place for all, in general.  Dr. Bill will be joined by Labor for Single Payer head Mark Dudzic, and Ada Briceño, President of Unite Here Local 11 to discuss the role labor can play in getting us healthcare for all. Email Mike Fox at info@pdamerica.org to get the secure log in codes.

11] –  On Sun., Sept. 13 from 4 to 5 PM, get over to a Black Lives Matter Vigil at Governor Warfield Parkway and Windstream Drive, Columbia. This vigil will continue on the second Sunday of the month through May 13, 2021. This is a public witness to the problem of anti-Black racism in our neighborhood, our nation, and our world. Wear masks, observe physical distancing, and bring your own signs. See

https://www.facebook.com/events/292559938613842/?event_time_id=292559981947171.

12] – Join this WEBINAR The Smoking Gun: Recent Revelations about U.S. Destabilization Efforts in Nicaragua on Sun., Sept. 13 at 5 PM ET.  Having already resumed illegal unilateral coercive measures attacking Nicaragua’s economy, the US government is now openly supplementing its economic aggression with a program intended not just to supplant Nicaragua’s Sandinista government but ultimately to destroy Sandinismo as a viable political movement. They want to turn Nicaragua into Bolivia (where a US-supported 2019 coup forced the elected president into exile). On July 31 Managua’s Radio La Primerísima revealed the contents of a USAID document with details of this next (or probably already begun) US government effort at regime change. The document outlines the main elements of a program called Responsive Assistance in Nicaragua (RAIN).

The speakers are S. Brian Willson, a justice activist for 50 years, who has lived in Nicaragua since 2017.  Coleen Littlejohn has been living in Nicaragua for most of the last 41 years.  She has worked for a wide range of organizations such as Catholic Relief Services.  Nan McCurdy is the editor of the weekly news magazine on Nicaragua, NicaNotes, and has been a resident of Nicaragua for most of the last 36 years.  Register at https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_kU4DWDj8S1iN1UI8RAkG5w?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=ee2672a1-56d9-4c05-94ff-0806affea544.

13] – There is a weekly Pentagon Peace Vigil from 7 to 8 AM on Mondays, since 1987, outside the Pentagon Metro stop.  The next vigil is Sept. 14, and it is sponsored by the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker.  Email artlaffin@hotmail.com or call 202-882-9649.  The vigil will be outside the Pentagon's south Metro entrance and in the designated "protest zone" behind bicycle fences across from the entrance to the Metro.  By Metro, take Yellow Line and get out at the "Pentagon" stop. Do not go to the Pentagon City stop! Go up south escalators and turn left and walk across to protest area. By car from D.C. area, take 395 South and get off at Exit 8A-Pentagon South Parking. Take slight right onto S. Rotary Rd. at end of ramp and right on S. Fern St. Then take left onto Army Navy Dr. You can "pay to park" on Army Navy Dr.,  and there is meter parking one block on right on Eads St. Payment for both of these spots begin at 8 AM.  No cameras are allowed on Pentagon grounds. Restrooms are located inside Marriott Residence Inn on corner of S. Fern and Army Navy Dr.

The group is organizing three phone banks (with a fourth to come) to talk to voters in the key states of Pennsylvania and Maine. Please click to sign up below for the first on Mon., Sept. 14 from 6 to 8:30 PM to call into Pennsylvania: https://indivisible.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJEkd-uqqTosHtK2sALvlYiJzImF16CO-BG2.

23] – Join the Poor People’s Campaign on Mon., Sept. 14 at 7 PM ET for a National Moral Monday Mass Assembly and Teach-In: Voting is Power Unleashed,* a massive online event bringing together poor and low-income people and allies who will learn about voter power, engagement, registration and protection and how to organize our communities to defend the vote.  Poor and low-income people hold the power to change the political calculus across the nation. The attacks on voting rights, voter suppression and in-person voter intimidation will only escalate in the weeks to come. That’s why we need to pull the movement family together for this massive teach-in to spread the tools people need to defend our democracy. Leading civil rights attorneys Caitlin Swain and Sherrilyn Ifill from Forward Justice and NAACP Legal Defense Fund will lead a powerful session on what grassroots leaders need to know as we enter the voting season. 24] – Militarization of the Police and the 1033 Program is happening on Mon., Sept. 14 from 7 to 8:30 PM ET with William Hartung, Dan McFadden and Yasmine Taeb. Local police throughout the U.S. are direct beneficiaries of the military-industrial complex’s overproduction of hardware designed to dominate the globe. The Pentagon’s 1033 program provides police departments with excess military-grade equipment—including tanks, armored cars and weaponry—meant for war, not for keeping the public safe. When police are dressed and equipped for war, studies have shown, they are more apt to act as though the population is their enemy. Hartung is director of the Arms and Security Program at the Center for International Policy. McFadden joined the ACLU of Massachusetts as a staff attorney in September 2018. Taeb is Senior Policy Counsel for Demand Progress. She’s an experienced human rights lobbyist and previously served as Senior Policy Counsel at the Center for Victims of Torture directing the organization’s advocacy on refugees and asylum seekers. Visit at http://masspeaceaction.org/event/militarization-of-the-police-and-the-1033-program/.

25] – Join the Get Money Out of Maryland Teleconference on Mon., Sept. 14 from 8:30 to 9:30 PM.  There are two ways to join the conference: Dial 1 929 205 6099, and then use meeting ID: 512 862 260. Or Click on your device if you have downloaded the app from Zoom. The focus will be on organizational sign-ups, public relations, and logistics for lobbying in Annapolis.

26] – RSVP to join Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club, in a Week of Action to get out the vote and reach infrequent climate voters, from Tues., Sept. 15 through Sun., Sept. 20. This is the last week to identify as many voters as possible who we can move to vote against Trump. Make 250,000 calls and write 50,000 letters!  Sign Up at https://www.sierraclubindependentaction.org/week-action?promoid=7013q000001b3kOAAQ&utm_medium=email&utm_source=sierraclub&utm_campaign=political&db_token=b6e24884ef874d561f720648fa7f24c728d130c0ee61950ee534052d92e2b46bad2d2286ded8e97bd08adac88591a989&utm_content=WOA.

27] – Bill Barry will be teaching an exciting, and timely course, on the Second New Deal for JHU-Osher, every Tuesday through Oct. 20 from 10 AM to noon, starting September 15.  The course will cover social and political movements, as well as New Deal legislation. The course will be done on Zoom and will feature some exciting guest speakers. To register, go to https://aapnoncredit.jhu.edu/wconnect/osher/CourseStatus.awp1?&course=20FB519.

28] – On Tues., Sept. 15 from 10 AM to 3 PM, say NO to Israel/UAE Normalization. Free Palestine!  Gather at the White House in an event hosted by Organizing for Palestine, CODEPINK: Women for Peace and others. A coalition of more than 50 organizations are co-sponsoring this protest in opposition to the US-brokered normalization treaty between the UAE and Israel. There should be NO normalization with occupation and colonization! This protest will take place on the same day and same time as the signing ceremony. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing as much as possible. Visit https://www.codepink.org/issues_campaigns.

29] – On Tues., Sept. 15 at noon, get into the webinar The Button: The New Nuclear Arms Race and Presidential Power from Truman to Trump.  Since the Truman administration, the USA has been one “push of a button” away from nuclear war—a decision that rests solely in the hands of the President. Without waiting for approval from Congress or even the Secretary of Defense [sic], the President can unleash America’s entire nuclear arsenal.  Congress has no decision-making power regarding nuclear war? Hear from former Secretary of Defense [sic] William J. Perry and Tom Z. Collina, Ploughshares Fund. Visit https://www.worldoregon.org/the_button_the_new_nuclear_arms_race.

30] – TRUMP COMES TO PHILLY, and the people have had enough of his vicious, racist lies, and the lives lost.  On Tues., Sept. 15 at noon, you are invited to be part of something different, a “HOLD HIM TO THE TRUTH” Vigil at WPVI-TV/ABC, 4100 City Line Avenue (City Line & Monument Avenues). Trump plans to attend an hour long town hall meeting with "undecided voters" beginning at 9 PM, probably at the Constitution Center in Center City and moderated by George Stephanopoulos.  Vigil and appeal that ABC News/WPVI-Channel 6 and George Stephanopoulos be vigilant in holding Donald Trump to the truth, with fact-checking always at the ready during this Town Hall meeting in Philadelphia.  The vigil will feature a "Burma-Shave" style series of large poster messages on the fence facing City Line Avenue in front of Channel 6. Signs and posters will be available for vigilers to hold.  A bell will be tolled and horns will honk throughout the relaxed vigil.  Mask-wearing is mandatory, and six feet social distancing will be observed.  You are encouraged to bring a folding chair, but stand if you must or wish.  See www.brandywinepeace.com. Or call Bob Smith at (215) 843-4827.

31] – The JHU student wing of the Coalition for a Humane Hopkins will be delivering a letter to the president of Johns Hopkins, Ron Daniels ("affectionately" known as Ronnie D), on Tues., Sept. 15 at 12:30 PM (caravan) and at 1:30 PM (speak out). The students are requesting that the community comes out to support the action!  Hopkins essentially banned all protests a couple of weeks ago, using COVID 19 as an excuse to silence any dissent against their continuously atrocious actions. However, the group is never going to give the profit-based healthcare system a break from accountability. The highest-level precautions will be taken regarding COVID-19.

Only 17 patients have been sued by JHH since our rally last July. That is compared to over 650 patients that were sued in 2018. The plan is now to get a public commitment that this will not happen again. See https://www.facebook.com/events/983408812084300 or a digital flyer https://www.facebook.com/coalitionforahumanehopkins/posts/717893102410392.

Contact Max at mobuszewski2001 at Comcast dot net or 410-323-1607.  You may consider contacting President Ron Daniels and telling him that the university should reject all military contracts, including those for killer drone and nuclear weapons research.  The president’s mailing address is Office of the President, 242 Garland Hall, The Johns Hopkins University, 3400 N. Charles St., Baltimore, Maryland 21218.  You can also reach his office by Phone: (410) 516-8068, Fax: (410) 516-6097 or email: president@jhu.edu.

Register at https://act.fcnl.org/event/learn_to_lobby/1818/signup?akid=13936.152065.AiRXg0&rd=1&t=16&utm_campaign=lam&utm_medium=email&utm_source=ak&utm_term=13936.152065.AiRXg0. Khouri.  Lebanon has reached a decisive moment in its modern history.  Khouri will discuss the significant underlying dynamics within the country, prospects for a rebirth of the state and the citizen-government relationship, and how events in Lebanon link up with similar dynamics of poverty/wealth and good governance/corruption across much of the region.   Khouri is Journalist-in-Residence and adjunct professor of journalism.  The discussion will be moderated by Jeff Klein, Mass. Peace Action board member and frequent author and speaker on the Middle East.

Deep canvassing is a phone banking method that is 102 times more effective than traditional presidential persuasion work. RSVP at https://www.crowdcast.io/e/beat-trump-heal-america/register.

38] – Members of Homewood Friends and Stony Run Friends meetings have come together over a concern for the potential of a coup and/or violence at the time of the election.  As a result, the Quakers are sponsoring a webinar on Thurs., Sept. 17 at 7 PM to strategize what can be done to prevent or respond to Trump’s illegal machinations.  The webinar will be led by George Lakey, who believes that there will be a need for a massive nonviolent action and that it is necessary to plan for that now.
