66] – On Fri, Nov. 15 from 1:30 to 3:30 PM, attend a Fisheries Listening Session at the National Aquarium, Animal Care and Rescue Center, 901 E Fayette Street, Baltimore 21202.  Congressperson Jared Huffman invites you to the next listening session on the Magnuson-Stevens Act and federal fisheries management. This panel discussion with experts and stakeholders will be a detailed, technical examination of current and future challenges in federal fisheries management and will explore potential solutions. This will inform Rep. Huffman’s development of a Magnuson-Stevens reauthorization bill. Guests will be able to submit written questions during the roundtable and provide public comments at its conclusion.  Audubon would like to see improvements to the Magnuson-Stevens Act including: better management for forage fish, protecting seabirds from becoming bycatch in nets and on hooks, and protecting essential fish habitat such as SAV beds. Attendees will receive Audubon t-shirts, hats, and messaging assistance. Contact Jaime D. Sigaran, National Campaigns Associate, at jaime.sigaran@audubon.org or (202) 516-5686.

67] – There is usually a silent peace and justice vigil on Fridays, from 5 to 6 PM, sponsored by Homewood Friends Meeting, outside the Homewood Friends Meetinghouse, 3107 N. Charles St.  The next scheduled vigil is on Nov. 15. Black Lives Matter.

Whitelock Community Farm, Pop Farm, Black Yield Institute, and Filbert Street Garden all provide spaces where their communities can thrive, offering neighborhood events, educational programs, and increased access to beauty, nature, and healthy foods. Despite their important contributions, these organizations encounter struggles in terms of land--from acquisition and environmental concerns to threats of displacement due to land grabs from developers. In this work the Alliance adds to the tradition that includes playwrights Samuel Beckett and Tom Stoppard of paying tribute to Havel by making Vaněk a universal character. The performance is written and directed by Susan Galbraith.  Look at https://www.facebook.com/events/510364376469067/?event_time_id=510364389802399.

82] – On Sat., Nov. 16 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM, Rise Up and Demand Trump/Pence Out Now, hosted by Refuse Fascism at Union Station, WDC.  The time has come to launch mass, sustained, nonviolent protests that come back week after week, refusing to stop until the Trump/Pence Regime has been removed from power.

The Trump/Pence Regime poses a catastrophic danger to humanity. Concentration Camps on the border… environmental devastation accelerated… the danger of war, even nuclear, threatened… white supremacy rules… fascist mobs and racist mass murderers… truth and science erased… the rule of law and democratic and civil rights are stripped away… THIS IS FASCISM UNFOLDING.

Now, impeachment has begun. A momentous move, in which sharp political battle lines are drawn with high stakes. Trump himself threatens charges of treason and even invokes civil war. A virulent fascist movement sees their future bound up with the whole Trump/Pence regime. Where this ends up depends on us.

This is a moment when we – people of many different views and experience – must act together in mass, sustained, non-violent nationwide protests that continue until the Trump/Pence regime is removed from power. We began with protests in NYC and LA on October 19 that announced four more consecutive Saturdays of protests in cities and towns across the country that gather more people and momentum so that in the weeks and months that follow, the movement grows to tens and hundreds of thousands and millions. What unifies all the diverse streams of people that need to pour into the streets is the single demand: The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go—Now!  Visit https://www.facebook.com/events/453251581982011/?event_time_id=453251595315343.

83] On Sat., Nov. 16 from 7 to 9 PM, This is what democracy looked like! Hosted by Red Emma's Bookstore Coffeehouse, 1225 Cathedral St., Baltimore 21201, this talk reflects on the 20th anniversary of the Seattle WTO protests, which is this November, a moment usually heralded as the “coming-out party” of the American “anti-globalization movement.” In late 1999, an explosion of disruptive protest shut down the World Trade Organization in Seattle. It was a rare clear victory for radical organizers. The ripple effect took the form of copycat protests across the world, any time there was a summit of global institutions. For a moment, a new anti-corporate social movement promised to construct a new kind of globalization, one that promoted labor rights, ecological security, civil society, and social equality. Yet by late 2001 the movement was only a memory, gone seemingly as quickly as it appeared. Nonetheless, for the last two decades the Seattle moment has cast a long shadow far beyond its brief lifespan—via Occupy and the revival of U.S. socialism.

Baltimore activists Mike McGuire and Ryan Harvey will participate in the conversation—with Ryan recording the discussion for a special live episode of his new podcast Hope Dies Last!  Nadine Bloch was part of the Ruckus training team at the Globalize This! Action camp; in the Fall of 1999, she was on the streets with DAN (Direct Action Network) coordinating crew of the ShutDown WTO actions. Currently, Nadine Bloch is the Training Director for Beautiful Trouble. Jamie McCallum is a sociology professor at Middlebury College. Visit https://www.facebook.com/events/426318771648481/.

The second one is “Uncommon Martyrs The Berrigans, the Catholic Left, and the Plowshares Movement” by Fred Wilcox, who profiles members of this anti-war movement, whose Christianity compels them to acts of civil disobedience against the military industrial complex.  The ISBN is 0201522314/$6.50 for a hardcover, and it can be purchased at Powell's Books.  See https://www.spiritualityandpractice.com/book-reviews/view/7094/uncommon-martyrs.

85] –   The Trump Administration is again beating the war drums.  Most recently, the target is Iran.  Should the Trump administration initiate an act of war against Iran, consider joining us. It is a violation of U.S. law for the Trump Administration to attack a country that has not attacked us, as only Congress can declare war. The Trump administration is nevertheless beating the war drums for war against Iran and Venezuela. Should a war criminal, John Bolton, convince Trump to attack either of these countries, such a military strike would demand an immediate and unequivocal response from us to show that we will not tolerate his abuse of power.

Let's mobilize to show that we the people will not tolerate another military adventure, which would be bound to have profound negative consequences. If a military strike against Iran or Venezuela takes place, then meet at 33rd and N. Charles St., Baltimore 21218. If the attack is before 2 PM local time, then the event will begin at 5 PM, local time. If the attack occurs after 5 PM local time, then the event will begin at 5 PM, local time, the following day. Contact Max at 410-323-1607 or mobuszewski2001 at Comcast dot net.

88] -- Join an extraordinary global campaign for the elimination of nuclear weapons: http://www.globalzero.org/sign-declaration. A growing group of leaders around the world is calling for the elimination of nuclear weapons and a majority of the global public agrees.  This is an historic window of opportunity.  With momentum already building in favor of Zero, a major show of support from people around the world could tip the balance. When it comes to nuclear weapons, one is one too many.

89] – A Peace Park Antinuclear Vigil takes place every day in Lafayette Park, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, 24 hours a day, since June 3, 1981. Go to http://prop1.org; call 202-682-4282.

“One is called to live nonviolently, even if the change one works for seems impossible. It may or may not be possible to turn the US around through nonviolent revolution. But one thing favors such an attempt: the total inability of violence to change anything for the better" - Daniel Berrigan
