40] – "Arna's Children" will be shown on Fri., May 6 at 1 PM at the Bain Senior Center in Harpers Choice Village, Columbia.  It is free, and the public is invited. The film tells the story of Arna Mer Khamis, a legendary activist against the Israeli Occupation.   Born into a Jewish family, she married a Palestinian Arab and spent her life campaigning for justice and human rights in her homeland. Arna founded an alternative education system for Palestinian children whose lives had been disrupted by Israeli occupation. A must-see documentary, sure to spark controversy. The film is 84 minutes long.

41] –  There is a silent vigil on Fri., May 6 from 5 to 6 PM outside of Homewood Friends Meeting, 3107 N. Charles St., in opposition to war in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. Placards say: "War Is Not the Answer." The silent vigil is sponsored by AFSC, Homewood Friends and Stony Run Meetings.  Since it is First Friday, there will be a potluck dinner after the vigil.

42] – The Hiroshima-Nagasaki Commemoration Committee, Chesapeake Physicians for Social Responsibility and Baltimore Quaker Peace and Justice Committee of Homewood and Stony Run Meetings are hosting the FILM & SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS DVD SERIES.  The next film in the series, entitled THE INDIVIDUAL IN A TIME OF CONFLICT, THE TRUE STORY OF CHE GUEVARA [USA, 2007] will be shown on Fri., May 6 at Homewood Friends Meetinghouse, 3107 N. Charles St., Baltimore 21218.  The Meeting hosts a potluck dinner from 6 to 7 PM on First Fridays after the vigil.  At 7 PM, the DVD will be shown with a discussion to follow.  There is no charge, and refreshments will be available.  Call Max at 410-366-1637.

THE TRUE STORY OF CHE GUEVARA is directed by Maria Wye Berry and gives a rounded view of who Che really was and his passion for bringing about a communist revolution to the world.  The film is largely based on the intensive work of John Lee Anderson, the author of CHE GUEVARA: A Revolutionary Life which contains comprehensive elements of Che's life including the revelation of how he died, as well as where he was secretly buried.  The romantic revolutionary is alive and well despite his death.  A well received THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES [2004] gave us a glimpse of what molded the man who joined the Cuban revolution.  And Steven Soderbergh made a two part saga of the life of CHE in 2008.  Che's tactics and beliefs can be challenged by today's revolutionaries and others, including nonviolent activists.  However, no one should be able to contest that Che died pursuing his beliefs.

43] – The Walter Reed Vigil continues on Fridays from 7 to 9 PM at the Hospital, 7150 Georgia Ave., NW (at Horseshoe, between Dahlia and Elder), WDC. The vigil calls for peace, care for the wounded, and full benefits for all veterans.  Contact DC CODEPINK at dc@codepinkalert.org or 202-290-1301.

INSIDE JOB is a 2010 documentary directed by Charles H. Ferguson about the financial crisis of 2007–2010. It won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2011.  Ferguson has described the film as being about "the systemic corruption of the United States by the financial services industry and the consequences of that systemic corruption." In five parts the film explores how changes in the policy environment and banking practices helped create the 2008 financial crisis. Inside Job was well received by film critics who praised its pacing, research and explanation of complex material.
