24] – Each Wednesday from 4:30 - 5:30 PM, the House of Grace Catholic Worker holds a weekly vigil for peace in Iraq outside the Phila. Federal Building, 6th & Market Sts. The next vigil is May 4. Call 215-426-0364.

 

25] – Congress will be back in the beginning of May to vote on a bill that would, once again, override local DC laws, and DC Vote will be back on the Hill as well - to demand democracy for D.C. Join an aggressive protest on Wed., May 4 at 5:30 PM at the Upper Senate Park, 200 New Jersey Ave. NW. Register to attend the protest at 202-462-6000 or email info@dcvote.org. This is the time to lift up voices, put bodies on the line and demand dignity.  Among the speakers will be Ms. Billie Day, past-president of the DC League of Women Voters and #19 of the original DC 41 arrested on April 11. 

 

26] – The Demilitarization / Nuclear Weapons Abolition Teach-Ins are scheduled in three sessions at three different venues on the dates of May 4, May 11 and May 25, 6:30 to 9 PM. The objective of the Teach-Ins is to remove the abstraction inherent in the nuclear weapons threat, just-war theory, moral and theological perspectives, spending, deterrence and security issues where they intersect our understanding of the impact on our lives today, our children's lives tomorrow, and our relationship to our legislative representatives, local and national.

The Teach-Ins are initiated by the North American team of Mayors for Peace which is based in Hiroshima, Japan. Harvey Zendt from Delaware and Mel Hardy will play host to the discussions and introduce the experts. Co-sponsors are PeaceAction Montgomery County and the Fund Our Communities Coalition (State of Maryland).  The May 11th event in Sandy Spring will also have co-sponsorship by the Peace Committee of Sandy Spring Friends Meeting.  The May 25th event in DC will be under the co-sponsorship of Global Souls, an adult spiritual development committee at All Souls Church, Unitarian. 29] – The 25th Annual B. 32] – The WEEKLY ROUNDTABLE SEEKING A JUST PEACE IN PALESTINE/ISRAEL takes place from 12:30 - 1:30 PM on Thursdays at Potter's House, 1658 Columbia Road NW, WDC.  Join a civil discourse which explores the history, issues, myths, realities, and truth of the conflict between Israel and Palestine. 33] – The Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore will host an End the Wars vigil on Thurs., May 5 from 5 to 6:30 PM in Mount Vernon at Centre & Charles Sts.  The Pledge gathers in Mount Vernon on the first Thursday of the month to protest U.S. wars.  Call Max at 410-366-1637

 

34] On Thurs., May 5 at 7 PM, hear a lecture on the Foundations of Yoga.  Thereafter, class meets each Thursday for four weeks for asanas. Ideal for beginners, renewals, and anyone interested in learning better diet, breathing, exercise, relaxation, and meditation/ positive thinking.
