On August 6, 2025 from 5 to 6 PM, join a vigil at 33rd & N. Charles Streets in Baltimore. Call on Johns Hopkins University to engage in humanitarian research, to respect freedom of speech on campus, to denounce weapons research, to end its complicity with genocide in Gaza and recognize that War is Not Green. A letter will be delivered to the home of President Ron Daniels.
At 6:30 PM, participants are encouraged to attend a community meeting in the Sunday Room at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 27th & St. Paul Streets, Baltimore 21218. The meeting will be an opportunity to discuss the issues in the Call above. Prior to the discussion, enjoy a potluck dinner. On August 7 from noon to 2 PM, enjoy lunch at the Ambassador Dining Room, 3811 Canterbury Road, Baltimore 21218 with Vincent Intondi, author of African Americans against the Bomb and Saving the World from Nuclear War. There will be an Indian buffet for $23 plus a cash bar. Professor Intondi will briefly discuss his books and then outline the relaunch plans for the mothballed Nuclear Times. On August 9 from 10 AM to noon, gather outside the White House to commemorate the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. This will be organized by the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker and other anti-nuclear organizations. Contact John Whitehead at jwwhiteh@yahoo.com
On August 10 from 1 – 3 PM at The Parkway, 5 W. North Ave., Baltimore 21201, attend a Teach-In -- 80 years later: the atomic bomb, Maryland and nuclear abolition. Sponsors include: Chesapeake Physicians for Social Responsibility, Maryland Peace Action, Prevent Nuclear War-Maryland, Asian Arts and Culture Center, & Pax Christi Baltimore. This teach-in will remember these events through a series of short films featuring: Marylanders who had a direct part in the bombing and aftermath, an interview with one of the most famous hibakusha (survivors), an animated depiction of what nuclear war would mean in 2025 and local and worldwide efforts to prevent nuclear war and achieve nuclear abolition.
