42] – What can we do when one political party’s leaders openly and aggressively try to take away our democracy and roll back women’s rights and civil rights? When they attack our efforts to embed racial and restorative justice in our societal systems, how do we respond? One of the most meaningful things we can do during this time is to show up for this election and to make sure others do! National Voter Registration Day is September 20th so it’s a perfect time to check your voter registration status and make sure your family members are registered.

Since the election of Tsai Ing-Wen in 2016, China has conducted a range of coercive military actions, including aerial patrols and large-scale military exercises in response to perceived offenses by Taiwan and the United States, resulting in renewed calls for greater U.S. military presence and commitment. The United States has recently made a number of unambiguous signals of support for Taiwan in an effort to enhance deterrence, and China has responded by intensifying its military activities in the region, raising U.S.-China tensions to historic levels. Without it, our efforts to stanch the climate emergency, prevent wars, and to promote social and economic justice will face more than daunting prospects. The next few years will determine if we can revitalize U.S. democracy, or if the country will go the way of the Weimar Republic. Gerrymandering, racist obstacles to voter registration and voting, and the capture of states’ election reporting systems by right-wing extremists place our electoral democracy in peril. Militia violence targeted against elected officials, election officials, the courts compounded by misinformation decreased access to truth make us all vulnerable. Register at
