The Covid-19 pandemic, digitalization, climate change, right-wing populism, global supply chains, and rising authoritarianism have fundamentally changed the world of work. Dozens of union activists, worker rights advocates, and labor scholars from around the world will analyze these developments and ask how we build anew our workplaces and societies with a foundation in social justice and decent work.

Featured speakers include - Liz Shuler of the AFL-CIO, Myrtle Witbooi of the International Domestic Workers Federation, Rosa Pavanelli of Public Services International, Carmen Foro of the Central Unitaria dos Trabalhadores, Brazil, Barbara Figueroa of the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas, and many more. The US must deter the violence by extending sanctions not just to Russian fossil fuels, but to its nuclear industry as well. Join NIRS and its allies for a rally on the National Mall. Call 301-270-6477 or visit nirs.org.

42] – HB694, a bill introduced by Del. Charkoudian to reimburse low-income hospital patients who were overcharged for care, was amended and passed out of the House ahead of last week’s crossover deadline. The bill has been significantly modified in the amendment process, but it will still create a process by which to address the problem of low-income patients being charged by hospitals when they legally qualify for free care. The Senate Finance Committee will hear the bill on Wed., March 30 at 1 PM ET, with supportive testimony from Progressive Maryland and its allies. Watch the hearing livestream at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJ6eORINhf8eESejcQiItYw.

46] – Friends Committee on National Legislation [support@fcnl.org] is inviting you on Wed., March 30 at 6:30 PM to participate in “Voting Rights, Racial Justice, and the Quaker Call to Action.”  FCNL and Friends have long advocated for equitable access to the ballot box. Democracy, like Quaker faith, needs all our voices to thrive. But the right to vote is under attack. As state legislatures continue to enact voter suppression laws and as Congress stalls the national voting rights debate, how can we ensure everyone’s vote counts, especially ahead of the midterm elections?  Register at https://act.fcnl.org/event/quaker-welcome-center-events-watch-home/2661/?akid=22617.152065.4ndrS1&rd=1&t=17&utm_campaign=event&utm_medium=email&utm_source=ak&utm_term=22617.152065.4ndrS1. More than 50 years after Jim Crow, the foundation of our democracy is in grave peril. FCNL’s Director for Justice Reform José Woss and local voting rights advocate Jaycee Brown will discuss their efforts to expand access to the ballot box. FCNL’s Bobby Trice will moderate the conversation.
