3] – THE ORGANIZING LIST will be the primary decision-making mechanism of the National Campaign of Nonviolent Resistance [NCNR].  It will be augmented by conference calls and possibly in-person meetings as needed.  It will consist of 1 or 2 representatives from each local, regional, or national organization (not coalitions) that wishes to actively work to carry out the NCNR campaign of facilitating and organizing nonviolent resistance to the war in Iraq.

 

To join the ORGANIZING List, please send your name, group affiliation, city and email address to donmuller@msn.com.  Different local chapters of a national organization are encouraged to subscribe.  

 

THE NOTICES LIST will include only notices of NCNR actions and related information and is open to any interested person to subscribe.  It will be moderated to maintain focus & will include periodic notices about getting involved in NCNR national organizing.  To join the NOTICES List, send an email message to ncnrnotices-subscribe@lists.riseup.net. 5] – Brad Hathaway spearheads an effort to sell donated used stamps to raise money for different humanitarian causes around the world. Go to www.mattapoisettquakers.org, and click the link for the stamp ministry.  Carefully clip canceled postage stamps and send to Quaker Missions, PO Box 795, Mattapoisett, MA 02739. Send no small flag stamps or Liberty Bell Forever stamps.

 

6] – There is a WIB peace stand on Thurs., Aug. 5, noon-1PM in Towson at northwest corner of Washington & Chesapeake Aves., across the street from the post office, near the courthouse. Contact mbrainzo@aol.com. This vigil takes place on the first Thursday of the month.

 

7] – On Thurs., Aug. 5, the WEEKLY ROUNDTABLE SEEKING A JUST PEACE IN PALESTINE/ISRAEL takes place from 12:30 - 1:30 PM at Potter's House, 1658 Columbia Road NW, WDC.  Join a civil discourse which explores the history, issues, myths, realities, and truth of the conflict between Israel and Palestine. 8] – Come Out to support the newly formed Baltimore CAN Coalition (www.baltimorecan.net) and Bmore Local’s 13 points* (www.bmorelocal.net) for the 25th Street Station development (Wal-Mart and Lowe’s) and help RAISE THE STANDARDS FOR SMART AND EQUITABLE DEVELOPMENT in Baltimore City.  There will be a rally at City Hall on Thurs., Aug. 5 at 4:30 PM in conjunction with the 6 PM Planning Commission hearing at 417 E. Fayette St. on the 25th Street Development. Call 410-366-2631.

 

9] – The Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore hosts an End the War! End the Occupation! rally on Thurs., Aug. 5 from 5 to 6:30 PM in Mount Vernon at Centre & Charles Sts.  The Pledge gathers in Mount Vernon on the first Thursday of the month to protest the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Call Max at 410-366-1637.

 

10] –  Get involved with the Abolish Nuclear Weapons Faith & Resistance Retreat starting Thurs., Aug. 5 at St. Stephen’s and the Incarnation Church, 1525 Newton St., NW [16th & Newton Sts.], WDC, 20010-3103, with a dinner at 6 PM and the showing of the film THE LAST ATOMIC BOMB at 7 PM.  Then there will be a planning meeting for a protest at the Pentagon on Fri., Aug. 6, Hiroshima Day.  Starting at 7 AM, there will be a silent procession with signs from Army-Navy Blvd. to the Pentagon free speech zone in robes and white face.  Then accounts of the Transfiguration and Hibakusha will be read.  Then there will be a return procession to Army-Navy Blvd.  There will also be a noon vigil at the White House on Aug. 6. 

 

The retreat will continue on Sun., Aug. 8 at St. Stephen’s and the Incarnation Church with a dinner at 6 PM, a presentation The Military: the Foremost Destroyer of the Environment by Frida Berrigan at 7 PM followed by a planning meeting for a protest at the Pentagon on the morning of Mon., Aug. 9, Nagasaki Day. 11] – Ward Morrow is debating Pat McDonough at the Youth Ideals Meeting on Thurs., Aug. 5 from 6 to 8:30 PM at 108 North Marlyn St., Essex, MD.  Call Steve Boucher at 443-772-1261.

12] –  On Thurs., Aug. 5 at 6 PM at Busboys and Poets, 2021 14th St. NW, WDC, as part of the Hope Not Hate: 20,000 Dialogues Film Series, see a special film screening of PRINCE AMONG SLAVES, the amazing true story of an African prince enslaved in the Americas.  Special guest Dr. Sulayman Nyang, chair of African Studies at Howard Univ. will lead the discussion of the film, hosted by 20,000 Dialogues and Americans for Informed Democracy.  RSVP at outreachassociate@upf.tv or 202-298-8088.

13] – The Hiroshima Commemoration and Memorial Candle Lantern Float is happening Thurs., Aug. 5 at 6:30 PM at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.  There will be a moment of silence at 7:15 PM with the lantern float at 8:30 PM at the Constitution Gardens. The Women's International League for Peace & Freedom - DC Branch is joining with the Hiroshima-Nagasaki Committee of the National Capitol Area to sponsor the event.

14] –  The Baltimore Green Currency Association group on Facebook is now up to 75 members after only four weeks, and there is a BGCA Meetup group at Meetup.com.
