3] – THE ORGANIZING LIST will be the primary decision-making mechanism of the National Campaign of Nonviolent Resistance [NCNR].  It will be augmented by conference calls and possibly in-person meetings as needed.  It will consist of 1 or 2 representatives from each local, regional, or national organization (not coalitions) that wishes to actively work to carry out the NCNR campaign of facilitating and organizing nonviolent resistance to the war in Iraq.

10] – Peace Action and other groups are inviting you to a "World PACS Party" on Thurs., May 28, 5:30 to 9 PM at the Mott House, 122 Maryland Ave., NE, WDC. 11] – On Thurs., May 28 at 7 PM, the Bread & Puppet Theater presents the Sourdough Philosophy Cabaret at 2640 St. Paul St. The cabaret offers a great variety of numbers from B & P's earliest and newest productions, from the 47 year old King Story to the latest financial sensation: a public money execution, as well as the sweet notes of the Radical Vermont Sheep-Note Choir, Theater Blue and the sounds of The Sourdough Philosophy String and Accordion Ensemble. 12] – Peace Action is organizing a group night at DC United's (soccer/football) game vs. the New York Red Bulls on Thurs., June 4 at 7:30 PM.  Seating will be in the $30 lower deck seats, but the group rate will be $23. 13] – On Fri., May 29 at noon, the American Friends of Baluchistan—a voice for peace in southwest Asia—will host a number of distinguished scholars and activists to talk about the nuclear tests in Baluchistan and their impacts on the politics and environment of southwest Asia and the world at large. The event at 276 Carroll St., WDC NW 20012, is organized to commemorate the 11th anniversary of Pakistan's nuclear tests in Baluchistan. The seminar comes in the wake of recent reports that Pakistan army is feverishly multiplying its nuclear warheads. Professor Jawaid Bhutto will talk on the "Political Fallout of Pakistan's Nuclear Tests" and Pakistan's emergence as the lone Muslim nation in the world with nuclear weapons. Fauzia Deeba, a development professional and human rights activist from Baluchistan, will challenge the propaganda of the Pakistani establishment that the Baluch do not want development in her presentation, "A Myth Broken in Balochistan." Internationally known executive director of Ahwaz Human Rights Organization, Dr. Karim Abdian will talk on "Nuclear Madness: What is happening in Iran." 16] – A peace vigil takes place every Friday from noon to 1 PM on Pennsylvania Ave., by the press gate to the White House. It is organized by the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker. Call 202-882-9649.

17] – There is a peace vigil to support the Congo every Friday, 4 to 6:30 PM at the Rwandan Embassy, 1714 New Hampshire Ave, NW.  Call the Rwandan Embassy at 202-232-2882 and register your concern about Rwanda's aggression towards the Congo.

18] – There is a silent vigil on Fri., May 29 from 5 to 6 PM outside of Homewood Friends Meeting, 3107 N. Charles St., in opposition to war with Iraq. Placards say: "War Is Not the Answer." The silent vigil is sponsored by AFSC, Homewood Friends and Stony Run Meetings.

21] – On Fri., May 29, there will be a musical benefit for the rebuilding of the playground behind the YMCA on 33rd St. The previous one was torched.  Bob Jacobson will perform with Rhonda Robinson on piano & vocals & Charlie Sigler on guitar. 24] – A Healthcare Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for Sat., May 30 (National Day of Action for Healthcare) from 9 AM to noon in Rep. John Sarbanes’ district at Towson Presbyterian Church, 400 W. Chesapeake Ave. in Towson.  The meeting will focus on Single-Payer Health Care--What is it?: "Everybody In, Nobody Out.” The speakers include Donna and Larry Smith (featured in "Sicko"), Congressperson Elijah Cummings, Adam Schneiderman (of Healthcare for the Homeless) and others. There will be a Q and A session with the panelists.  The meeting is sponsored by Healthcare-Now of Md., Md. Physicians for a National Health Program and others. 25] – The end of the school year is approaching.  "Clean Your Desk for Nicaragua" and bring leftover school supplies ST. JOHN'S CHURCH, 27th & ST. 27] –  Each Saturday, 11 AM – 1 PM, Chester County Peace Movement holds a peace vigil in West Chester in front of the Chester County Courthouse, High & Market Sts. This vigil has been the target of counter-demonstrators and harassment from the "Chester County Victory Movement" but has grown and persisted.  Go to www.ccpeace.org.

28] – On Sat., May 30, PeaceAction Montgomery is hosting a benefit luncheon, 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockville, 100 Welsh Park Drive, Rockville, MD 20850. Proceeds will go to help build a playground for the children in Gaza. The speakers are Frida Berrigan on U.S. military spending and Pam Rasmussen on her recent trip to Gaza. 29] There will be a peace vigil on the West Lawn of the Capitol at noon on Sat., May 30. Look for the blue banner with the message, "Seek Peace and Pursue It.--Psalms 34:14." 32] – The Save Middle East Baltimore Action Committee (SMEAC) is holding a special event on Sat., May 30 at the REGINALD F. LEWIS MUSEUM, 830 E. Pratt St., Baltimore, MD 21202. See Elizabeth Barbush's Middle East Baltimore Stories: Images and Words from a Displaced Community, an exhibit of photographs and audio stories of the people impacted by the east side biotech project north of Hopkins, from 2 to 4 PM.  At 4 PM, Dr. Mindy Fullilove, a physician who wrote a book ROOT SHOCK (about the impact of urban renewal on African American communities), and a panel that includes residents of Middle East Baltimore, will discuss the situation. 34] The Law Against Torture and the Moral Imperative for Accountability, featuring Brent Mickum, co-counsel representing tortured Guantanamo detainee Abu Zubaydah, and Dr. Bill Barbieri, associate professor of Ethics School of Theology and Religious Studies at Catholic University of America, will be discussed on Sat., May 30 from 2 to 4 PM at the Arlington Central Library Auditorium, 1015 N. 36] –  Josh Steiber is a combat veteran who just got out of the army as a conscientious objector after being part of the 'surge' in Iraq.  He is beginning a peace walk from Maryland to the West Coast. 37] – Searching for Middle East TRUTH during Sunday School by Heber Brown [www.FaithinActionOnline.com].  During the month of May, his Sunday School is focusing on the issue of the Middle East and particularly Palestine/Israel.  Before the month is out, he'll explore how the U.S. media help to shape the perspective on the Middle East question. 45] – Three English teachers are needed to teach young Kurdish students at a private language institute in Suleimaniya in the Kurdish north of Iraq. Room and board and 2 meals per day will be provided and teachers will be paid a stipend. Teachers will have to provide for their own airfare.  Teachers are needed from June 1 through August 31, 2009

48] – There is usually a vigil to abolish the death penalty every Monday from 5 to 6 PM, outside the prison complex and across the street from Maryland’s death row, at the corner of Madison Ave. and Fallsway in Baltimore.  The next vigil is scheduled for Mon., June 1.  Call 410-233-0488.

49] – Mix and mingle with the broadest section of the DC area's progressive activist community.
