41] – Defending Rights & Dissent [Updates@rightsanddissent.org] on Wed., Jan. 7 at 1 PM ET is presenting a conversation with legal experts on Trump’s Venezuela invasion. He ousted and abducted its president, and announced the U.S. is “running the country.” In the process he’s violating both U.S. Constitution--which gives Congress the power to authorize war--and international law. Hear from Policy Director Chip Gibbons and National Lawyers Guild President Marjorie Cohn, also a professor emerita at Thomas Jefferson School of Law.  Congress can still invoke the War Powers Act to put a stop to Trump’s rampant aggression. RSVP at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sLP7AkPeDA

42] – Get over to Why You Should Join DSA: New Member Orientation on Wed., Jan. 7 from 7 to 8 PM at the MLK Library, 401-D, 901 G St. NW, WDC 20001.  RSVP at  https://actionnetwork.org/events/why-you-should-join-dsa-new-member-orientation-164?link_id=52&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-metro-dc-dsa-weekly-newsletter-for-december-19-2025&email_referrer=email_3037652&email_subject=metro-dc-dsa-weekly-newsletter-for-january-2-2026&&

Are you curious about the Democratic Socialists of America? Thinking about joining but want to hear more info first? Attended a few events already and ready become a member? Already a member and want to get more involved? Learn about DSA, what it does, and how you can get involved in the fight for a brighter future. Get an outline of the chapter's structure and our campaigns, working groups, and branches. The chapter covers the DMV area, including the district, Northern Virginia, and Montgomery County and Prince George's County in Maryland. This event is open to both DSA Members and supporters.

43] – Act NOW to ensure that Trump doesn’t “run” Venezuela. Join a MoveON emergency organizing call on Wed., Jan. 7 at 8 PM ET to learn ways that YOU can take immediate action. RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/healthcarenotwarfare/event/880579/?utm_source=moveon&utm_medium=email&link_id=0&can_id=501a4cc8578ff03e21dcd2abb3f1bfee&email_referrer=email_3040436&email_subject=re-venezuela&

And now it’s not just Venezuela—if Trump thinks he can get away with this, he’s already started threats against Mexico, Colombia, Iran, and Denmark. He’s ready to risk American lives, spend billions of our taxpayer dollars, shred diplomacy, threaten global relations—but he can be stopped. Join Wednesday’s 'Health Care Not Warfare' National Organizing Call to learn how.

44] – The Metro DC DSA Prince George's County is holding a virtual Abolition Working Group meeting on Wed., Jan. 7 from 8 to 9 PM ET. Email stancil.marcus7@gmail.com. 46] – Isaac Evans-Frantz, Action Corps [info@actioncorps.org] on Wed., Jan. 7 from 8:30 to 9:30 PM ET is holding an Action Call with a U.S. Army Vet on What He Saw in the West Bank. Across Gaza, the West Bank, Sudan, Congo, Yemen, and Burma, civilians are paying the price for decisions made far from their lives and communities. Many of us feel the moral urgency of this moment -- and the responsibility to turn concern into sustained, effective action. Hear from Essam Attia, an independent policy advocate, U.S. Army veteran, and former policy advisor to Senator Bernie Sanders. Essam recently traveled to the occupied West Bank as part of a Sabeel delegation, which is a faith-rooted Palestinian Christian initiative that brings international advocates to listen to Palestinian communities, meet with local civil society organizations, and return home prepared to take action.  After registering, look for an email from Zoom with link to join: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/uasPupWYSR6jHMtKWNZm3w?link_id=2&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-a-us-army-veteran-on-what-he-saw-in-the-west-bank-3&email_referrer=email_3041302&email_subject=reminder-action-call-tomorrow-w-us-army-vet-on-what-he-saw-in-the-west-bank&&#/registration

NW, WDC. There are opportunities for audience talk-back and reflection, after each performance.
