39] – The Union of Concerned Scientists [action@ucsusa.org] on Thurs., Sept., 5 at 3 PM is holding a webinar An Introduction to US land-based Nuclear Weapons. Learn from experts and decision-makers about the current state of silo-based nuclear missiles in the United States. The US government is pursuing a program that will develop, build, and deploy 400 new silo-based nuclear missiles. The program, called Sentinel, went 37 percent over budget earlier this year, triggering a critical Nunn-McCurdy breach and a review by the Pentagon to decide whether to move forward with the program or cancel it. Despite this violation, and opposition from more than 700 experts and leaders across the country, the Pentagon recommended continuing the program and it was approved by Congress on July 8.  People’s Action has a vision for the future in which we all have a say, we all have what we need, and we all belong. In that vision, our government and our economy serve all of us, not a handful of billionaires, and concerns about corporate profits take a back seat to the well-being of our people and our planet. Over the coming weeks, reach out to voters in critical states to share this vision with them and invite them to join us in working towards it.  Join the Social Housing Working Group for its biweekly organizing meeting. Learn about its latest activities, what they're planning for the future, and how to get involved. The Social Housing Working Group seeks to educate Metro DC DSA chapter members and the general public about social housing and to facilitate collective action in support of the passage and implementation of the Green New Deal for Housing Amendment Act.  The legislation proposes to create mixed-income, district-owned housing with market rate units that subsidize a larger number of affordable units. It's a pioneering approach that deepens affordability, invests surplus funds into the creation of more social housing, and locks-in financial sustainability. The bill also includes climate and labor standards and elected tenant boards with oversight over building management.  This event is open to both DSA Members and supporters.

44] – The Lower Shore Progressive Caucus [admin@lowershoreprogressives.com] is holding a membership meeting on Thurs., Sept. 5 at 6:30 PM ET.  You can appear by Zoom or in person at 123 Camden St., Salisbury. 45] – Tune in to a virtual Report from the Streets at the DNC on Thurs., Sept. 5 at 7 PM ET.  What was the reaction in the street? What was the response of the hundreds of Palestinian and other Arab Americans and allies among the thousands of demonstrators in Chicago? The just concluded DNC was an occasion for speeches, postures and positions on the inside, and large protests, marches and rallies on the outside. Thousands of people gathered in Chicago's Union Park and the streets to make their voices known on the pressing topics of concern to the ordinary citizens of the country. No topic was more important though than the concern to stop the war in Gaza and above all to stop the US weapons shipments that fuel and perpetuate the massacre of innocent civilians. Inside the convention, the speakers and luminaries were not impervious or unaffected by the war and a number of positions were taken and promises made. But at the moment to embrace the Palestinian voice and have a Palestinian Speaker, they balked -- none was permitted.  Safety through Solidarity takes the fight against antisemitism out of the hands of status quo defenders and into the hands of social movements. Using history, analysis, and interviews with front-line organizers, it situates the fight against antisemitism where it belongs—alongside the fight against all forms of oppression. Lorber and Burley help break the current impasse to understand how antisemitism works, what’s missing in contemporary debates, and how to build true safety through solidarity for Jews and all people.
