or virtually on Mon., Sept. 16 at 7 PM ET. Reel and Meal presents Ernie and
Joe: Crisis Cops which shows two Texas cops who have learned
how to defuse potentially violent encounters with the mentally ill and steer
them into treatment instead of jail. Their innovative approaches should make
the film required viewing in all police academies. Most cities and towns
have police forces who are not equipped to handle people who suffer from mental
illness. The discussion following the film will focus on how to help people
with mental health challenges, both by intervention and in the event of a
crisis.
