19] – Urge Congress to Hold Hearings on the ERA, which would be supported by Katrina's Dream.  Each Monday, including Jan. 27, through Feb. 10, at 8 AM, make calls to Senator Graham at (202) 224-5972 and your senators for the ERA. Hold hearings on S.J. Res 6, and S.J. Res. 5 which calls for the removal of a deadline for passage of the ERA. Monroe St., Baltimore 21217.  Hear a presentation on the history of racism in America.  Black Love Day is a little known official African American Holiday that began in 1993. 25] – On Mon., Jan. 27 from 6:30 to 8 PM, learn about Baltimore’s Civil Rights Heritage: Shaping the National Movement, hosted by Enoch Pratt Free Library, 400 Cathedral St., Baltimore 21201.  The featured special guest is Reverend Al Hathaway from Union Baptist Church.  Baltimore’s airport is named after Civil Rights giant Thurgood Marshall, and plaques in Fell’s Point show where Frederick Douglass took his stand against slavery and for equality. In addition to these well-known leaders, dozens of other Baltimoreans committed themselves to struggle for Civil Rights and helped shape The Movement locally and nationally. Reverend Harvey Johnson worked from Union Baptist Church on Druid Hill Avenue to create some of the first Civil Rights organizations in the country as early as the 1880s. Lillie Carroll Jackson, who headed Baltimore’s branch of the NAACP for 50 years, pioneered nonviolent protest tactics that engaged young people. Clarence Mitchell led the NAACPs efforts to pass ground-breaking Civil Rights legislation in Congress in the 1960s. Baltimore Heritage has spent three years documenting Baltimore’s Civil Rights legacy for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. 26] – On Mon., Jan. 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, get with So You Want to Organize #1: Socialist Night School, hosted by Metro D.C. Democratic Socialists of America at Shaw Library, 121 Dover Road, WDC.  Everyone wants to be an organizer these days—but what exactly does an organizer do? What makes for a good organizer, and a good organizing project? What’s the difference between organizing and activism, and what is the difference between organizing a workplace or apartment building and “community organizing”? Join experienced organizers from Metro DC Democratic Socialists of America for a five-part training program learn the answers to these questions—and how to become an organizer yourself.

The first session introduces the subject of organizing: its goals, best practices, constituencies, and some history. Meet every two to three weeks (depending on library availability) for the remaining sessions on organizing conversations, identifying leaders, social mapping, rating and tracking contacts, data collection, strategy and targets, power mapping, group dynamics, governance, and meetings. Discuss what is driving migration from the “Northern Triangle” (Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador).  The Center for Latin American & Latino Studies at American University is the location for extensive research on Central America. Their findings will help us understand the following:  Who is leaving and why? Are there changes that could convince people to stay? What role could the U.S. play in helping to reduce the “push” factors forcing them to flee?
