44] – On Mon., Mar. 19 at 7:30 PM, hear "The Nonviolent Jesus, Just War Theory, and our Church Today," a conversation led by Msgr. Stuart Swetland of Mt. St. Mary's Seminary. Part of this former Navel officer's talk will be taken from "The Harvest of Justice is Sown in Peace," - the 1993 document celebrating the 10 year anniversary of "The Challenge of Peace."  The conversation will be at St. Patrick's Parish Hall, 4101 Norbeck Rd., Rockville, MD  20853. 45] The Pledge of Resistance/Fund Our Communities Baltimore usually meets on Mondays at 7:30 PM, and the meetings now take place at Max's residence.  The next meeting takes place on Mar. 19.  The proposed agenda will include reports on the Progressive Summit, the emergency demo against war with Iran, anti-drone organizing, Bradley Manning's legal update and the NSA 14. 48] – Tell MD House to Vote in Favor of Death Penalty Repeal Bill.  With just less than four weeks left in the 2012 legislative session in Annapolis, momentum continues to be on the side of repealing the death penalty.  The House of Delegates hears HB949 -- Death Penalty Repeal and Appropriation of Savings to Aid Survivors of Homicide Victims on Tues., Mar. 20 at 1 PM in the Judiciary Committee Hearing Room, 1st Floor, House Office Building, Annapolis.  Pack the room.  HB 949 has 66 co-sponsors in the House.  There is majority support for the bill, but it must come out of committee. Indeed, this is sixth legislative session with such majorities. Tell your delegates you want a vote on HB 949 in THIS legislative session. 60] – See a screening of "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" on Wed., Mar. 21 from 7 to 8:30 PM at 1901 Fort Place SE, WDC.  The post-screening speaker will be IPS Foreign Policy In Focus co-director, Emira Woods, who is from Liberia. This award-winning documentary is about a group of brave and visionary women who demanded peace for Liberia. The women took on warlords and the regime of dictator Charles Taylor in the midst of a brutal civil war, and won a once unimaginable peace for their shattered country in 2003. 61] – Ahmed Rashid will discuss his book "Pakistan on the Brink: The Future of America, Pakistan, and Afghanistan" on Wed., Mar. 21 at 7 PM at Politics and Prose, 5015 Connecticut Ave. NW, WDC.  Four years after his "Chaos, "the Lahore-based Pakistani journalist reassesses the situation in Pakistan and Afghanistan and offers suggestions for U.S. foreign policy in the region. He pays particular attention to the role of the Taliban and the reliability of American allies.

63] At The Palestine Center, Dr. Wendy Pearlman, Crown Junior Chair in Middle East Studies and assistant professor of Political Science at Northwestern Univ., will explore Violence, Nonviolence and the Palestinian National Movement on Thurs., Mar. 22 from 12:30 to 2 PM.  Dr. Pearlman shows that much of the reasoning behind the use of violent and nonviolent methods in nationalist movements lies very much in the movements themselves.
