President Trump has usurped the congressional war power by bombing Iran, Nigeria, and Syria; invading and occupying Venezuela; and threatening to seize Greenland by force—all without constitutionally required congressional declarations of war. No other president has ever invaded and de facto annexed a foreign country with no congressional authorization. He has usurped the congressional power of the purse by spending money not appropriated by Congress for that purpose and impounding tens of billions of dollars in violation of the Impoundment Control Act of 1974. No other president has ever declared the Act unconstitutional and serially flouted its requirements. He has flouted his constitutional obligation to faithfully execute the laws by, among other things, denying birthright citizenship conferred by the Fourteenth Amendment; flouting the First Amendment, the Fourth Amendment, and due process in xenophobic targeting immigrants; and without evidence murdering more than 100 suspected drug traffickers and climbers in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, transforming the United States into Murder Inc. He has brandished the power of the federal government to punish, injure or harass citizens, law firms, businesses and educational institutions for exercising their free-speech rights to criticize President Trump and his Administration. No other president has employed military force on an industrial scale to kill suspected criminals not in self-defense and with no evidence of criminality, without a crumb of congressional or constitutional authority.  Fein will demonstrate that the constitutional grievances against President Trump’s de facto monarchy are more appalling and alarming than the 27 Thomas Jefferson penned against King George III.

42] – Rev. Adam Russell Taylor, Sojourners [sojoaction@sojo.net] on Wed., Feb. 18 at noon hopes you will join a public vigil in Lafayette Park on Ash Wednesday. This is a Call to Christians in a Crisis of Faith and Democracy. In a moment when cruelty is being normalized, and the name of Jesus is being used to bless domination, we’re choosing a different witness—prayerful, truthful, and courageous. Register at  https://act.sojo.net/page/94227/survey/1?utm_medium=email&utm_source=engagingnetworksSJN&utm_campaign=sojoaction&utm_content=FY26.02.11+Coalition+Event+-+A+Call+to+Action+-+Vigil+on+the+Hill+0348145019

43] – James Zogby [jzogby@aaiusa.org] on Wed., Feb. 18 from 2 to 2:30 PM is inviting you to a Coffee and a Column. He discussed the continued need to provide Palestinians a voice in their own affairs and the damage caused by the international community by ignoring Palestinian Human rights. In his column, he argues Ignoring Palestinian Rights won't bring peace -- https://www.aaiusa.org/library/ignoring-palestinian-rights-wont-bring-peace?emci=f7943a1e-250c-f111-832e-0022482a9733&emdi=6af7b181-2a0c-f111-832e-0022482a9733&ceid=389907 Register here to receive the information for the Zoom call: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/P6UhDUzZTL-2wRePwIlLOA?emci=f7943a1e-250c-f111-832e-0022482a9733&emdi=6af7b181-2a0c-f111-832e-0022482a9733&ceid=389907#/

44] – MPower Action [info@mpowerchange.org] on Wed., Feb. 18 at 3 PM will join with Jewish Voice for Peace to prompt calls to demand the release of Leqaa Kordia. Leqaa, a 33-year-old Palestinian woman being unlawfully held in ICE detention for nearly a year, needs us to raise our voices and let our Members of Congress know that she should be free.

Leqaa was an active participant in demonstrations against the ongoing genocide in Gaza, and like many others, is a victim of Trump’s crackdown on immigrants. Israel has killed more than 200 members of Leqaa’s family in Gaza since the genocide began. Leqaa is being held in the Prairieland Detention Facility in Texas, notorious for human rights violations, and 1,500 miles from her family. She was recently hospitalized for a seizure, and it's believed that she is in poor health and in need of urgent care. It is imperative that we all do more to secure her release. Thirty-four Texas lawmakers sent a letter to Homeland Security calling for her release. Now, we need Members of Congress to take action. Talk with Food & Water Watch’s campaign leaders about the top priority fights for 2026 and how to push forward in our work to fight environmental destruction and corporate greed.  RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/fww/event/875825/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=engagingnetworks&utm_campaign=onor_em_02172026_NAT-fww-FEB-LFL&utm_content=2026-02-17_FWW_c3_NAT_General_February-LFL-Email-2_Event_em_nL_C_EPI

50] –What’s the Plan? A virtual Weekly Discussion with Indivisible’s co-founders takes place on Thursdays, including Feb. 19, from 3 to 4 PM ET. The onslaught of news, the chaos coming out of the White House – it’s all meant to overwhelm us. It’s a deliberate strategy to sow confusion and make us believe we are powerless to fight back. The antidote: Coming together in community to process what’s happening, to sift through what’s important and what’s just noise, and coalesce around strategies for fighting back. Join Indivisible co-founders Leah Greenberg and Ezra Levin each week to discuss what’s happening and – more importantly – what the plan is. The event will continue through Dec. 17, 2026. RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/874938/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=_20251215

51] --  On Thurs., Feb. 19 from 5 to 6 PM Indivisible Olney will stand up for Democracy at Georgia Avenue & Maryland 108, Olney 20832.  Park in the Walgreen's parking lot and follow the sound of the music! RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/dfadcoalition/event/878084/?followup_modal_context=organization_newsletter_custom_recommendations

Stand with your neighbors for democracy, for justice, and for an economy that works for all of us, not just billionaires. Stand for science, the rule of law, a working government, kindness and common decency. It's going to be dark and cold at 5:00, so dress warmly and maybe bring a book light to illuminate your protest sign. The event will be cancelled if the temperatures are below freezing, or when it rains, sleets, or snows. This event will continue through March 26.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a time for personal and societal repentance, radical conversion, renewal and transformation. Living under the brutal occupation of the Roman Empire, Jesus declared: "The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the Gospel." (Mark 1:15) Living in the U.S. Empire, which is responsible for so much death and suffering in our world, heed Jesus' proclamation now more than ever!

On Ash Wednesday, people from the faith-based peace and justice community in the DMV will hold a prayer service near the US Capitol to call for repentance and conversion of ourselves, our society and our churches to the Gospel way of justice, nonviolence and a reverence for all life and creation. We decry the reign of terror that the Trump Administration is carrying out on all fronts. This includes the horrific ICE raids and killings, and detention, deportation of immigrants; military intervention in Venezuela; continued support for Israel's genocidal war in Gaza and ethnic cleansing of Palestine; military threats against Iran, attempts to takeover Greenland and destabilizing actions against Cuba; massive cuts in health care and other vital services for people who are poor while granting tax breaks for those who are wealthy; increasing the military budget to over $1 trillion; and policy directives that exacerbate the climate crisis. 25] – Susan Barnett [reelandmealatnewdealcafe@gmail.com] on Mon., Feb. 16 at 6:30 PM wants you to know that Reel and Meal will show The Black Power Mixtape: 1967-1975. Arrive/Log on by 6:15 PM as the program starts promptly at 6:30 PM. If attending in person, please come to the New Deal Café at 113 Centerway (Roosevelt Center) in Greenbelt. Register at https://tinyurl.com/RnMFeb2026 This month’s film is sponsored by the Greenbelt Black History and Culture Committee.

The film is a 2011 collage of rare, long-lost footage covering the Black Power Movement and the social changes that took place in the ’60s and early ’70s. It’s more a time machine than a history film. Assembled from long-lost Swedish television footage, it splices together interviews and remarks made during one of the most turbulent and transformative periods in American life. The film captures rare, startlingly candid moments with figures who defined the Black Power Movement—Stokely Carmichael (Kwame Ture), Angela Davis, Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale, Eldridge Cleaver, and others—speaking not for the record, but in the moment. Decades later, artists and activists shaped by that era, including Erykah Badu, Harry Belafonte, Talib Kweli, Melvin Van Peebles, and Sonia Sanchez, reflect on what it meant then—and why it still matters now. The documentary examines tensions between nonviolent civil rights activism and Black Power nationalism, opposition to the Vietnam War, the government’s covert COINTELPRO campaign, and the heroin epidemic that devastated Black communities. It also traces how the movement helped spark second-wave feminism, gay liberation, and broader struggles for justice.

You are encouraged to enjoy a plant-based meal during the film to participate in socially responsible, environmentally sustainable, and animal safe lifestyle choices. The Reel and Meal at the New Deal Café is a free monthly film series, started in September 2007. For more information about this month’s film, contact Frank Gervasi 301 467 2418 or the Reel and Meal Facebook page:www.facebook.com/reelandmeal

26] – The Campaign for Peace, Disarmament & Common Security [joseph@cpdcs.ccsend.com] on Mon., Feb. 16 at 7 PM ET will host SOCIAL STRIKES: HOW CAN WE USE THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE TO END MAGA TYRANNY? Register at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_JoPktQCHSSqx5VMlUz7sUw#/registration

Donald Trump and his accomplices are conducting a creeping coup, which is seizing all the powers of the government and concentrating them in the personal will of the president. The consequence is armed attack abroad and armed assault against American cities. Popular opposition is growing and a powerful movement-based opposition is resisting. But what about a worst-case scenario where neither electoral nor non-electoral opposition forestalls a MAGA tyranny? Experience from Poland to the Philippines to South Korea to Puerto Rico has shown that "social strikes" -- including mass strikes, general strikes, and nonviolent popular uprisings -- can overcome tyrannical dictatorships. The Minnesota "Day of Peace and Freedom", has shown the power of a social strike right here in the US.  The speakers are Jeremy Brecher, historian, author and co-founder of the Labor Network for Sustainability; Colleen Rowley, former FBI whistleblower and Minneapolis resident, and Jackson Potter, vice-president of Chicago Teachers Union and leading figure in MaydayStrong. Simone Rothstein [simone.rothstein@jufj.org] is inviting you to join in on Mon., Feb. 16 from 7 to 8:15 PM for a Jews United for Justice Baltimore Action Team meeting on Zoom. Share important and exciting updates on the renters’ rights and immigrant justice campaigns. RSVP at https://jufj.org/event/bat-2-16-26/.

29] –The American Friends of Combatants for Peace [office@afcfp.org] on Tues., Feb. 17 at 1 PM ET are holding a webinar Education Interrupted — How Occupation Is Shutting Down Palestinian Schools. Across the West Bank, schools are operating only a few days a week due to occupation-related policies and withheld funds. Teachers go unpaid, routines collapse, and children are left without consistent access to education. This is not by accident, but by design.  Enjoy a timely conversation with Combatants for Peace, featuring Palestinian and Israeli activists and staff who are raising the alarm about a tactic of Israeli occupation: the systematic disruption of Palestinian education.  The speakers will share firsthand accounts from the ground, including personal stories from educators, parents, and activists living this reality. Together, they will help us understand how occupation is shaping the education crisis and how people in the U.S. and international community can take action in solidarity. Focus on the most urgent campaigns that need help. Some of these campaigns may include stopping bills that will make it harder for millions of Americans—especially students, seniors, and veterans—to cast their ballots. Ensure voters across the country to call their elected representatives and make their voices heard. A full training will be provided at the start of each shift! The next phone bank will be on Tues., Feb. 24 at 6 PM ET.  This event will continue through Jan. 12, 2027. 5] – Another book to consider purchasing is Male Supremacy in the Catholic Church: An Insider’s View by Roy Bourgeois. His new book is both memoir and position-paper, and it makes the case that the Roman Catholic Church is a corrupt system that spits out truth-tellers. The crime he was excommunicated for was attending the ordination ceremony of Janice Sevre-Duszynska in Lexington, Kentucky, in August 2008. The ordination was under the auspices of the Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests.  The Vatican’s response has been to excommunicate any woman who has the audacity to see herself as a priest equal to a male priest. You can purchase a copy from Amazon or by Kindle.

Here are two quotes to contemplate: “I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men. She is to keep silent.” – Timothy 1, 2:12-13.  “If the patriarchy that dominates the church is not dismantled and women are not treated as equals, the church will continue to diminish and, eventually, die.” – Roy Bourgeois.

6] – William Barry [billbarry21214@gmail.com] has a request. As the country begins to celebrate our 250th anniversary, our history is complicated but one thing is certain--labor history is always deleted. So he created the MD250 Labor History Project, and hopes you will participate by sending in labor history materials, and by sharing it with your friends, as part of creating a union movement. 8] – The Baltimore Ethical Society on Sun., Feb. 15 at 10:30 AM will host a hybrid platform: Is Humanity Alone in the Milky Way? Rob Palmer, self-described skeptical and atheist activist, is a retired aerospace engineer. Over 100 of his articles have been published by Skeptical Inquirer and other skeptical and humanist media. Rob writes about contemporary skeptical issues and has interviewed many individuals for his Skeptical Inquirer column. Half of Americans believe extraterrestrials are routinely visiting Earth in their spaceships, and many are sure that Earth’s governments are engaged in a global cover-up. Scientists and skeptics generally disagree with such claims, but due to the vast number of exoplanets now known to exist, many from those respected communities often assert that extraterrestrial civilizations are likely and perhaps even abundant in our galaxy, and it’s just a matter of time until first contact. In this presentation, Rob Palmer will discuss whether this is a reasonable position to hold, and explore the contrary possibility – that our civilization may be an anomaly, surprisingly rare or even alone in the Milky Way. RSVP at https://www.meetup.com/bmorethical/events/312431831/?eventOrigin=group_upcoming_events

9] – On Sun., Feb. 15 from 11 AM to 1 PM, get over to Severna Park High School, 60 Robinson Road, Severna Park 21146. Do sign waving on the corners of Benfield, Evergreen and Robinson Road. Let this administration know that they’re not running the country the way the people want. The cruelty has to stop. This is a local Indivisible event which will also Sundays, March 1 and March 15. This will be a virtual event featuring a conversation with human rights lawyer and executive director of the Public Committee against Torture, Sari Bashi.  She lives in a mixed Israeli-Palestinian family, which is the subject of her new memoir, Upside-Down Love. Her book, a love story in two voices, describes how she and her Palestinian spouse met, fell in love and made it work, against the odds and against Israeli law. Sari will share her perspective on the ceasefire in Gaza, the escalating violence in the West Bank, and the opportunities emerging for transformative change. Sari is also a co-founder and former executive director of Gisha-Legal Center for Freedom of Movement, the Israeli human rights organization promoting freedom of movement for Palestinians in Gaza.

12] – Indivisible Baltimore County [contact@indivisible-baltimorecounty.org] on Sun., Feb. 15 from 1 to 2:30 PM, help keep ICE out of Baltimore County.  Recent reporting indicates that the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has leased office space in Hunt Valley, across from the Hunt Valley Towne Centre, which has led to speculation about a potential U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) presence at 201 International Circle, though federal officials have not confirmed plans for the space. Baltimore County officials, including the County Executive’s Office, have said they are seeking clarity on what functions might occur there and have called for a County Council session to address community concerns and discuss possible legislation related to immigration enforcement uses. Join together on the sidewalks along the northeast side of Shawan Road to show Baltimore County, Maryland, and the Trump Regime that we don't want ICE here.... period! RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/indivisiblebaltco/event/889116/

13] – On Sundays, including Feb. 15, from 1 to 3 PM ET at 15202 Major Lansdale Blvd., Bowie 20716, join Indivisible Bowie for a Visibility Brigade sign wave on the pedestrian bridge over Route 50. If you can't make the full time, no worries, come when you can! Help bring attention to important issues and let your neighbors and commuters know they are not alone in fighting back against authoritarianism. This event will continue through March 8.

Parking is behind the Hampton Inn in the old theatre lot, please look for the sign. Follow the paved path through the chain-link fence, then turn left onto the pedestrian trail to reach the bridge. Approximately a 4-minute walk. RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/dfadcoalition/event/873914/?followup_modal_context=organization_newsletter_custom_recommendations

14] – Calling All Resistance Knitters/Crocheters to join the Melt the Ice Hat Knit-In, hosted by Allies for Democracy on Sundays, including Feb. 15, from 2 to 4 PM ET in the common area at The Shops at Kenilworth, 800 Kenilworth Dr., Towson 21204. In the 1940s, Norwegians quietly defied Nazi occupation by knitting and wearing red, pointed hats with tassels. A simple garment became an act of protest. Today, Minnesota knitters are reviving that tradition—and they need more hats. Join in to knit and crochet Melt the Ice Hats. These red hats will be sent to Needle & Skein yarn shop in Minnesota and distributed to protesters. This event will continue through March 8. Bring red yarn and needles or a hook if you have them. Knit and crochet patterns may be found on Ravelry. Beginners welcome, and supplies may be available to share.  RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/899993/?followup_modal_context=nonexclusive_newsletter_more_events_of_type

16] – Progressive Democrats of America [info@pdamerica.org] on Sun., Feb. 15 at 4 PM ET, attend the weekly Town Hall.  It will feature legendary public education organizer Jitu Brown. Brown has spent decades organizing alongside parents, students, and educators to defend and strengthen public education. Last year, he was elected to the newly established Chicago School Board. Since 1995, education policy in Chicago had been set by the mayor rather than by an elected school board, a policy change and win for democracy that Brown helped make happen.  Brandee Marckmann is a parent, community advocate, and candidate for the San Francisco School Board. She is the founder of the SF Education Alliance and helped stop a disastrous school closure plan. 17] – Feb. 15 from 7 to 8 PM ET, check out virtually How You Can Drop ICE from Your Campus. Cut off ICE’s corporate enablers — starting on our campuses. Donald Trump’s deportation machine depends on private corporations for technology to track, places to sleep, cars to drive, planes to fly, and parking lots to stage. Colleges — and the students, faculty, and staff they rely on — have real leverage over the companies providing these services to ICE through purchasing, partnerships, and public legitimacy. The fastest way to shrink ICE’s capacity is to cut off its corporate support: push the schools to stop funding and normalizing ICE collaborators.  Hear how organizers in Minneapolis and beyond moved from defense to offense—picking a few winnable targets and escalating sustained, nonviolent pressure that hits brands and bottom lines. 18] – There was a weekly Pentagon Peace Vigil from 7 to 8 AM on Mondays, since 1987, outside the Pentagon Metro stop.  However, the Pentagon police, presumably on the orders of President Trump, have made it impossible to protest on the reservation. Now it will take place on the corner of S. Fern and Army Navy Dr. in Arlington, VA.  The next vigil is Feb. 16, and it is sponsored by the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker.  Email artlaffin@hotmail.com or call 202-882-9649.

By car from D.C. area, take 395 South and get off at Exit 8A-Pentagon South Parking. Take slight right onto S. Rotary Rd. at end of ramp and right on S. Fern St. Then take left onto Army Navy Dr. You can "pay to park" on Army Navy Dr.,  and there is meter parking one block on right on Eads St. Payment for both of these spots begins at 8 AM.  No cameras are allowed on Pentagon grounds. The restrooms are located inside Marriot Providence Inn on corner of S. Fern and Army Navy Dr.

Immigrant families across Maryland are navigating a moment of real uncertainty. As lawmakers advance bills to limit collaboration with federal immigration enforcement, these efforts exist alongside broader policies that expand policing, surveillance, and state power. Below is the tentative schedule:  5 – 5:30 PM Arrival, 5:30 – 5:50 PM Vigil, 5:50 – 7 PM Rally at Lawyer's Mall & 7 – 8 PM Bird-dogging and ask legislators to vote YES on our bills.

To be continued
