57] – Jasmine Ruddy [info@medicare4all.org] explains there is frustration with the hospital industry's nightmarish plans to increase profits by sending sick patients back home to receive “care,” misclassifying nurses as independent contractors, and attempting to turn more jobs into gig work.  Now corporations like CVS and tech startup companies are trying to harness new technologies like artificial intelligence and remote monitoring to justify unsafe at-home care for acutely ill patients. Get involved with a live webinar to learn more about how our communities can fight to ensure that new technologies do not keep deepening the injustices of our broken, profit-driven health care system on Thurs., July 28 at 8 PM ET for ‘Equity Through Advocacy: Overcoming Technological Bias in Health Care’ at https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_KOdLI186QPWJGqfd5dmFoQ?akid=150604.162593.0-KTFi&rd=1&t=1.

30] – On Wed., July 27 at 9 AM ET, check out The Future of Arms Control, Strategic Stability and the Global Order [Virtual].  As countries prepare for the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) Review Conference next month, increased competition between regional and global powers, the pace of technological development and the collapse of long-standing agreements present more challenges to arms control and global strategic order than ever before. In this increasing vacuum, the potential for misunderstanding and miscalculation grows. Hear from the UK’s National Security Adviser, Sir Stephen Lovegrove, who will offer a UK perspective on the current climate and advocate for a new set of principles for the future of arms control and resetting strategic stability for the new international order. The sponsor of the event is the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS). RSVP at https://www.csis.org/events/future-arms-control-strategic-stability-and-global-order.

31] – On Wed., July 27 from noon to 1 PM ET, tune in to Future Foreign Policy: A New Nuclear Era? Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine started with a warning against Western intervention: they would face “consequences such as you have never seen in your entire history.” As he has repeated his nuclear threats over the last three months, numerous commentators have begun to wonder if it is the beginning of a new era of heighted nuclear risks. Headlines read: “Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has eroded the nuclear taboo” (The Economist); “Putin’s Threats Highlight the Dangers of a New, Riskier Nuclear Era” (The New York Times). Many wonder what lessons China may take away from Russia’s nuclear saber rattling. What lessons have US allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific learned? Are countries like Japan and South Korea more likely to seek nuclear weapons for themselves?  This event is sponsored by the New American Engagement Initiative, Atlantic Council. Register at https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/event/ffp-a-new-nuclear-era/.

19] – There is an urgent need to educate the public about the growing danger of nuclear war and what we can do about it.  Many of us want to help with this education but feel uncomfortable doing public speaking on this issue. On Mon., July 25 at 7 PM ET, take a Nuclear Disarmament Speaker Training with Ira Helfand. Each session will last 60 to 90 minutes. 5] – Here is the Go Fund Me link through which you can help Adel Al Manthari get the medical attention that he desperately needs: https://gofund.me/1a5fac07. Please contribute as soon as possible because he will not be able to get treatment until $10,000 is raised. BanKillerDrones.org is raising funds to help him. WESPAC Foundation is the fiscal agent for BanKillerDrones.org. In March 2018 Adel Al Manthari was grievously injured in a U.S. drone attack in Yemen that killed four of his cousins. The five men were driving to the village of al-Aqla to witness a land transfer. They never made it. Tens of thousands have been killed and maimed by U.S. drone attacks.  Adel survived, but now his health is in jeopardy because he can’t afford the medical care he needs.

8] – On Monday, July 25, activists will gather in D.C. to demand that Biden keeps his promises to end policies that terrorize immigrants, like the 287(g) program that enables police-ICE collaboration nationwide. RSVP for a specific time and location. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdrtlNwKj5yS0Wb-rczOBJkRpKJTQ0kGQoaChk8XevGYpUnUw/viewform. There will also be an art-build from 10 AM to noon and training from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday, July 24. There are no more excuses. The Biden administration has to act NOW to deliver relief from police-ICE terror and dismantle the 287(g) program entirely. All it will take is quick, easy executive action. Get more information at bit.ly/EndPoliceICETerrorFAQ.

9] – Prince George’s DSA County Branch will meet on Sun., July 24 from 1 to 3 PM for a discussion on the primary election results and how they may offer opportunities for building socialism at the county governance level. PDA endorsed Call, running in Washington’s 2nd District.

The January 6th Committee's dramatic hearing on Thursday night was a master class in defending democracy. But we need to do more than ward off autocrats like Trump. We need a pro-democracy movement in America. Consider the proposition that American democracy will remain in peril until candidates that truly represent the people, not the plutocrats, start winning the majority of elections.

14] – Join the Voter Protection phone banks with Common Cause to work together to demand bold changes to our democracy to create a government that represents all of us, not big corporations or special interests. Call voters in New Hampshire to connect them with Gov. Sununu and encourage him to veto SB 418 and voters in Michigan to recruit them for events happening around their state. These phone banks are subject to change based on variables outside of our control (i.e. a Senator's mailbox is full).

On Sundays, call voters in Michigan to recruit them for events happening around their state. On Tuesdays (in partnership with Newburyport Indivisible-RISE), call New Hampshire voters to connect them with Gov. Sununu and encourage him to veto SB 418.  On Fridays, there will be the Our Democracy phone bank. These shifts also always will include training for first-timers before you make calls! On Sun., July 24 from 6 to 8 PM ET, Tues., July 26 from 4 to 6 PM ET and Fri., July 29 from 4 to 6 PM ET. Sign up at https://www.mobilize.us/dfadcoalition/event/376178/?followup_modal_context=newsletter.

Do not go to the Pentagon City stop! Go up south escalators and turn left and walk across to protest area. By car from D.C. area, take 395 South and get off at Exit 8A-Pentagon South Parking. Take slight right onto S. Rotary Rd. at end of ramp and right on S. Fern St. Then take left onto Army Navy Dr. You can "pay to park" on Army Navy Dr.,  and there is meter parking one block on right on Eads St. Payment for both of these spots begins at 8 AM.  No cameras are allowed on Pentagon grounds. The restrooms are located inside Marriott Residence Inn on corner of S. Fern and Army Navy Dr.

16] – The Emergency Election Protection Coalition is happening at 4:30 PM ET on Mon., July 25. Please submit any questions to: Solartopia@gmail.com. Sign up at https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJYldumtrjIiH9L7_KfcFV1n8ynuO3anTGwp. Progressive Democrats of America are part of the coalition.

After many months of protest and campaigning, hospitality workers belonging to Unite Here Local 7 still have not been allowed to return to their former jobs at the Merriweather Lakehouse Hotel. Howard County is processing complaints from twenty workers not recalled as required by the Hospitality Recall Ordinance. While awaiting enforcement of the law, union allies continue to call for people not to patronize the hotel. This summer they are focusing on concert-goers to Merriweather Post Pavilion, which has financial connections to the hotel. Please join in the leafleting.  RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/480662/?followup_modal_context=nonexclusive_newsletter_more_events_from_org.
