27] –The Islamic regime in Iran is using execution verdicts as a desperate act to suppress peaceful demonstrations and protests due to the disastrous economic condition in Iran.  The judicial system in Iran executes innocent activist and individuals by forced confessions, torture and sham trials.  The unjust death sentences for Pakhshan Azizi and Varisheh Moradi is another act of desperation by the Islamic Republic’s use of capital punishment to suppress members of minority communities and terrorize Iranian women who are fighting tirelessly for their rights as equal citizens of Iran.  You are asked to show your urgent support for contacting the United Nations Human Rights office and Iranian mission at United Nations to demand the Islamic republic of Iran stop the unjust execution verdicts for both women and hundreds of other prisoners on death row in Iran. These prisoners must receive fair trials according to international judicial standards, including the right for all prisoners to independent counsels.

Contact the permanent mission of Iran, 622 Third Avenue, 34th Floor, NEW YORK, NY 10017 -- https://geneva.mfa.gov.ir or Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Palais Wilson, 52 rue des Pâquis, CH-1201 Geneva, Switzerland -- ohchr-InfoDesk@un.org On Tues., March 4 from 7 - 8:30 PM ET, enjoy Habitant Gardening for Birds: Intro Webinar. Learn the basics of how to transform your home, school, work, or community space into a bird and butterfly paradise! Audubon experts will share practical tips and scientific support for gardening with native plants and making our neighborhoods more resilient. 28] –Senator Chris Murphy [moveon-help@list.moveon.org] on Tues., March 4 at 8:15 to 10:30 PM wants you to join a Live Chat and Pre-buttal to Trump's address to Congress. Instead of listening to Trump ramble through his lies, fearmongering, and gloating, check out a mix of fact-checking and, most importantly, opportunities to take action against Trump and Elon's billionaire takeover ... and, yes, some good old-fashioned snark. For the 30 minutes before the speech, hear a live conversation with lawmakers, advocates, commentators, and comedians—to lift up our spirits, lift up the stakes of what's happening in this country, and lift up compelling ways all of us can mobilize and organize the opposition.

Then during the speech itself, we'll kick off a real-time, rapid-response chatroom. You'll still be able to hear his speech (sorry) while reading our reactions and rebuttals along the way. With 10 or 20 of us commenting together, it should be robust and entertaining, giving you a dynamic way to cut through his nonsense, give opportunities to take action, and maybe even a reason to smile. RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/moveon/event/759136/?rd=1&t=3

29] – Jewish Voice for Peace is doing a Power Half-Hour for Gaza: Channel grief & outrage into action to stop a genocide.  A year into the genocide in Gaza, we are overwhelmed with sorrow and rage. There are no words to describe the devastating pain of the past year in which the Israeli military has killed over 44,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including more than 17,000 children. The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court have both declared that Israel must stop the genocidal acts being committed on the Palestinian people. And the U.S. government is actively supporting the Israeli military as it wreaks devastation on the over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza. JVP continues to come together as a political community in its daily half-hour to take action, Monday through Friday, for the past year. Join in and take collective action to demand an arms embargo to Israel, immediate end to the genocide, a lasting ceasefire and an end to Israeli siege, apartheid, occupation, and oppression of Palestinians and Lebanon. All are welcome. All are needed. Get involved at 3 PM ET on Tues., March 4, Wed., March 5, Thurs., March 6 & Mon., March 10.  Visit https://jvp-org.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Un0Lupy1SFObVVXJaZO5UQ?_x_zm_rtaid=8L0JUS3pQkenMGtx9ha3mQ.1732760660364.03949df73aedc7035fc618f76c52fc75&_x_zm_rhtaid=249#/registration

30] – Phone Bank virtually with Common Cause: STOP THE SAVE ACT on Tuesdays, March 4, 11 & 18 and Thursdays, March 6 & 13 from 6 to 8 PM ET.  Join Common Cause for an important phone bank to mobilize voters to take action against the dangerous SAVE Act and advocate for the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. The SAVE Act threatens to make it harder for millions of Americans—especially students, seniors, and veterans—to cast their ballots. Ensure voters across the country call their representatives and demand they protect the freedom to vote. A full training will take place at the start of each shift! 31] –  On Tues., March 4 at 7 PM ET, join CODEPINK and NLG Chicago at a Know Your Rights Community Safety Training for Direct Actions. Bring questions, thoughts, and a friend! Whether in the streets or online, we must protect ourselves from intensified surveillance and criminalization. It is more important than ever to be visible for Palestine, for the environment and for the liberation of all peoples. And we can only do that by keeping each other safe and supported!  Email Grace · grace@codepink.org. 32] – Joseph Gerson, The Campaign for Peace, Disarmament & Common Security [joseph@cpdcs.ccsend.com] on Tues., March 4 from 7 to 9:30 PM ET wants you to know that the 3rd Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) will be taking place. The nuclear weapons states are all upgrading the nuclear arsenals. This also comes amidst tectonic geopolitical transformations and shortly after the Nobel Committee sent an urgent message to the world by awarding its Peace Prize to Nihon Hidankyo, the Japan Confederation of A- & H- Bomb Sufferers Organizations. 34] – Despite talk of cutting government waste, DOGE has yet to slash the bloated $900 billion Pentagon budget. Unfortunately, CODEPINK seems to think mega-billionaire Elon Musk and his 20-something techies will cut the Pentagon budget.  Trump will increase the military budget.  On Tues., March 4 at 8 PM ET, join a CODEPINK Congress Capitol Calling Party with Col. (ret.) Lawrence Wilkerson who served as Secretary of State Colin Powell's Chief of Staff (2002-2005), and as Associate Director of the State Department's Policy Planning staff under the directorship of Ambassador Richard N. Metro Center - station entrance, 1078 G St. NW, WDC 20001. For questions and requests, contact Patty at patty@progressivemayland.org. 40] –  On Wed., Feb. 26 at 10 AM, Ellen Grady will go on trial in Federal Court at 100 South Clinton St., Syracuse, NY 13261 facing a charge "unreasonable obstruction of an entrance." She was arrested on Nov. 15 while demanding an end to illegal US arms sales to Israel for a year-long genocide in Gaza. Ellen and nine others of the Berrigan Collective sat in the lobby of the Syracuse Federal Building housing Senators Schumer and Gillibrand’s offices calling on the senators to stop funding Israel’s year of genocide. Ellen was the only one arrested. Among possible witnesses are people who resigned from the State Department and the Department of the Interior because of the Biden administration’s violation of six laws prohibiting the US from sending weapons to a country committing war crimes and genocide.

On Friday, November 15th, 2024, members of the Berrigan Collective, based in Ithaca, NY, with other upstate peace activists, went to the Syracuse Federal Building to ask for an immediate meeting with staff in the offices of New York's US Senators Schumer and Gillibrand to "exercise our right to petition the government for a redress of grievances." They wished to "impress upon the Senators the urgency of the impending vote (in 3 business days) to cut off offensive weapons for Israel's genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples." They were specifically asking the Senators to support the Senate Joint Resolutions of Disapproval that would block the sale of U.S. weaponry to Israel.

Earlier last fall Senators Bernie Sanders (VT), Peter Welch (VT), Jeff Merkley (OR), and Brian Schatz (HI) introduced Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to stop a $20 billion weapons shipment approved by the Biden administration. “There is a mountain of documentary evidence” that Israel uses US weapons to violate the law, Sanders said.  Leave your congressional leaders a short message with this script. Find your Senators at https://www.senate.gov/senators/senators-contact.htm, and find your Representative athttps://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

Hello, this is [Your Name]. I am a concerned constituent calling about the recent wave of government dismissals orchestrated by Unelected President Elon Musk. Thousands of terminations have been reported, affecting crucial areas such as federal lands and veterans' care. As a democracy, we should be concentrating on the interests of the citizens rather than the whims of a few powerful individuals. It distresses me to witness this tech oligarchy potentially threatening our democratic foundations. I would like to propose a three-step plan: 1. Have hearings, gather information on disrupted grants and funds across all congressional districts. 2. Encourage bipartisanship to enact a bill that enforces the original spending designation of these funds. 3. Hold accountable those who do not follow through on this spending, as it would constitute a breach of law. Musk cannot make the excuse that no one is left to manage these program.

Your donation will provide a needed financial boost for the printing costs. The suggested donation is $20 for one copy; and $30 for your copy and an additional copy for a prisoner or someone in need. Any donation is appreciated. More or less you will receive the book.  Barry and the team have spent over two years putting this book together. It begins with outlines and notes found in the boxes of materials Murphy left when she ascended. The work is a work of love, and all involved are proud of the fruit borne by seeds nourished in good soil.

To order by postal mail, make your check to Open Door Community.  Send it to Open Door Community, PO Box 10980, Baltimore 21234.  For any questions, contact David Payne at 404-290-2047 or davidpayne@opendoorcommunity.org.

5] – Another book to consider purchasing is Male Supremacy in the Catholic Church: An Insider’s View by Roy Bourgeois. His new book is both memoir and position-paper, and it makes the case that the Roman Catholic Church is a corrupt system that spits out truth-tellers. The crime he was excommunicated for was attending the ordination ceremony of Janice Sevre-Duszynska in Lexington, Kentucky, in August 2008. The ordination was under the auspices of the Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests.  The Vatican’s response has been to excommunicate any woman who has the audacity to see herself as a priest equal to a male priest. You can purchase a copy from Amazon or by Kindle.

Here are two quotes to contemplate: “I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men. She is to keep silent.” – Timothy 1, 2:12-13.  “If the patriarchy that dominates the church is not dismantled and women are not treated as equals, the church will continue to diminish and, eventually, die.” – Roy Bourgeois.

6] – A home in Baltimore is for sale on a dead-end street in the Lauraville neighborhood, with three bedrooms, and one bath. The yard backs into a field and then a forest. There is a serene and quiet setting with an abundance of wildlife. The owner will be asking a reasonable amount for the property but it will not be overpriced. Contact her by text only at 443 500 6733. On the text, leave your name and phone number, and she will get back to anyone that reaches out.

7] – The Baltimore Ethical Society invites you on Sundays at 10:30 AM for a platform presentation. On March 2, the Zoom presentation will be “Playing God: An Evolutionary History of World Religion.” Recently scholars around the world have made some fascinating and jaw-dropping discoveries in the field of global religious history—including ones that overturn so much of what we think we know about the founders and origins of our major world religions. Author David Fitzgerald is an award-winning writer, historical researcher and an atheist activist who lectures internationally at universities and secular events, and is a frequent guest on many podcasts. He has been a passionate advocate for atheism, civil rights, counter-apologetics and secular humanism his entire adult life. Starting in the 1990’s, he was called one of the busiest atheist activists in the San Francisco Bay Area, serving on the board of San Francisco Atheists and CFI-SF for over a decade. He was the Director and Co-Founder of both the world’s first Atheist Film Festival and Evolutionpalooza! San Francisco’s oldest annual Darwin Day celebration.  He is the star of his own podcast, The Myth of Jesus with David Fitzgerald. More information about David can be found on his website at davidfitzgerald.org.

As a historical researcher, he has been actively investigating the Historical Jesus question for over twenty-five years, and was an associate member of CSER (the former Committee for the Scientific Examination of Religion). To receive a Zoom invitation, please email president@bmorethical.org.

Shayla is a former Teachers Union shop steward, has led the fight on the school board for care not policing in our schools, and fought back against developers to get strong project labor agreements on public school projects. This race will decide the balance of power on a County Council split 5 – 5 between corporate developer interests and progressives. Establishment Democrats are opposing Shayla with everything they have.

11] – On Sun., March 2 at 3 PM ET, there is a webinar with Brian Willson: Veteran, Peace Activist, Nicaraguan Citizen.  Brian started life in a conservative small town in upstate New York, but changed his political outlook as a result of life events including military experience in Vietnam. On September 1, 1987, he and other veterans blocked railroad tracks at the Concord, CA, naval station, to protest shipping US weapons to Central America. An approaching train did not stop, and Brian barely survived the impact, losing both legs below the knee as well as his right frontal lobe. After this attack, his activism only intensified. As a trained lawyer and writer, he has also documented US policy in over 20 countries including Nicaragua, which he made his permanent home several years ago.  REGISTER at bit.ly/NicaMarch2.

Brian is ready to answer your questions, as well as the following queries:  What were the most important factors that changed your political viewpoint and impelled you to take action?  Why did you decide to move to Nicaragua, and what have you experienced and observed while living there?  What message do you have for other activists and potential activists?

12] – Progressive Democrats of America [info@pdamerica.org] wants you to know on Sun., March 2 at 4 PM ET there will be a Town Hall. Hear from Jamaal Bowman—one of the most brilliant, dynamic, and truthful politicians in America. Discuss PDA's strategy to defeat MAGA and launch a new Progressive era.  As we all know, imbalanced redistricting, plus an avalanche of right-wing money arrayed against him and in support of his conservative Democratic opponent, led to Bowman's defeat in last year's primary. No one understands the imbalances that plague the American political system better than Jamaal Bowman—and no one tells it like it is any better. Less than two months since he left Congress, Bowman will give the lowdown on how Congress really operates and what Democrats must do to fight back effectively against Trump and Musk.

Then, there will be a PDA strategy session. Executive Director Alan Minsky has written a series of articles on Common Dreams, about how progressives can and must take over the Democratic Party for the good of the country and the world. The articles have created quite a buzz on social media. A presentation of their central ideas, followed by an open discussion, is overdue on one of our Town Halls.  Register here and the machine will email you your secure codes: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0tceuhrzsvHdymeeZRwb-i7X50FJa-HMR4#/registration
