22] – On Sun., May 13, the People's Summit is continuing at Occupy Chicago Headquarters, 500 W. Cermak.  On Mon., May 14, there will be Peace Guide Training at Trinity Episcopal Church, 125 E. 26th Street at 6:30 PM.  On Tues., May 15 join the Nakba Commemoration. "Nakba - Telling the Story. 23] – The Solar and Wind Expo continues for those with an eye towards the environment.  This year's annual expo will bring you up to date on renewable energy technologies, including the new electric motorcycle on Sun., May 13 from 10 AM to 6 PM at the Timonium Fairgrounds, 2200 York Road.  Ticket prices are $12, but $10 online.  Children under 12 get in free.  Call 410-252-0200.  Go to http://thesolarandwindexpo.com/Maryland.

 

24] – Usually, the Baltimore Ethical Society, 306 W. Franklin St., Suite 102, Baltimore, MD 21201-4661, meets on Sundays, and generally there is a speaker and discussion from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.  On Sun., May 13, the topic is "Reflections on Celebrating 60 Years."  The core of this talk will be recommendations for ways in which honoring our past can give us impetus as we build for the future! Selections from some special videos along with some reflections on our 60th Anniversary celebration are planned by Hugh Taft-Morales, BES leader. 

 

Hugh Taft-Morales serves as Leader for both the Baltimore Ethical Society and the Ethical Humanist Society of Philadelphia and also works as Consulting Leader to the Ethical Society Without Walls (ESWoW). A Yale College graduate (1979), he also earned a Masters in Philosophy (1986) from University of Kent in England and for twenty-five years taught philosophy and history in high school. 27] –  On Sun., May 13 at 4:30 PM, enjoy the Brandywine Peace Community Monthly Potluck Supper & Program @ University Lutheran Church, 3637 Chestnut St., Phila., PA. (Bring main dish, salad, or dessert to share). 28] – The D.C. APOCALYPSE FILM SERIES is a benefit for the D.C. ZINEFEST, and it takes place on Sun., May 13 at the Radical Space D.C., 5525 Illinois Ave. NW, WDC.  Use the Georgia Ave-Petworth Metro. See a screening of TIMES SQUARE. 31] – Attend "Symposium on Religious Freedom and the Rights of Minorities in Islam" on Mon., May 14 from 9 AM to 12:30 PM at the Fisher Colloquium Auditorium, Rafik B. 32] – THE DAY THE UNIVERSE CHANGED is a philosophically fun video and discussion series! The next opportunity takes place on Mon., May 13 from 4 to 6 PM at the Baltimore Ethical Society.  Come view and discuss a video series by James Burke, which entertainingly explores links between knowledge and reality. Join Ethical Culture Leader Hugh Taft-Morales for the ninth installment called, Making Waves: The New Physics – Newton Revised. It is open to the public.

 

33] – The Justice 4 Trayvon Martin, Maryland LOC, is calling for a Protest against Police Misconduct, Abuse and Brutality with a Picket Line & Protest on Mon., May 14 from 5 to 6:30 PM at Central Police HQ across from City Hall, 601 E Fayette St, Baltimore 21202.  Call 410-500-2168 or email info@justice-4-trayvon.org.  Join the family and friends of David Yimm, a disabled man, shot by police in West Baltimore.  All neighborhood witnesses recount that officer Fred Murray recklessly shot from his police cruiser, out of the passenger's side window, not only shooting the victim, but endangering the entire community. Join with the East Side jobs protesters and Thomas Threatt, (see video http://youtu.be/tv7hUcdl5AQ ) who was unjustifiably maced and abused by police.  Demand that charges be dropped against all four jobs protesters and that the police officers involved in this brutality be appropriately charged and fired.  Protesting for jobs is not a crime!

35] – There is usually a vigil to abolish the death penalty every Monday from 5 to 6 PM, outside the prison complex and across the street from Maryland's Super Max Prison, at the corner of Madison Ave. and Fallsway in Baltimore.  Maryland's death row was moved out of Baltimore, but it was decided to continue the vigil. The next one is scheduled for Mon., May 14. Call 410-366-1637.

 

36] – Join Peace Action Montgomery at an event in Gaithersburg on Mon., May 14 at which the key Democrats in MD will appear (from the governor to Cardin to Hoyer).  Help pass out fliers and hold banners supporting a reduction in military spending and an increase in social spending.  From 5:30 to 6:30 PM, be at the Casey Community Center, 810 South Frederick Ave., Gaithersburg.

 

37] – There is a Rally to Support Education and Bottle Tax on Mon., May 14 from 6 to 7 PM at City Hall Entrance, 100 N. Holliday St., Baltimore 21202. This event is organized by the Baltimore Education Coalition ( http://www.becforourkids.org/ ) to call on the mayor and our other elected officials to pass the important bottle tax so that school construction may take place and funding cuts to after-school programs may be restored.

38] – The Women's Housing Coalition Fundraiser, on Mon., May 14 from 6 to 9 PM, is a Caribbean-style waterfront event, including steel drum band performances, a silent auction, specialty food and drinks at Nick's Fish House, 2600 Insulator Drive.  Call 410-347-4123 or go to http://nicksfishhouse.com

 The WHC is dedicated to providing affordable housing for the homeless, supplying them with the aid they need to become working, self-sustaining individuals. Join them for their annual fundraiser and help raise money for an organization that has consistently helped women and children find their ways out of tough times.

 

39] – The Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore usually meets on Mondays at 7:30 PM, and the meetings now take place at Max's residence.  The next meeting takes place on May 14.  Call 410-366-1637 or email mobuszewski at verizon.net for directions.

 

The proposed agenda will include reports on meeting Dutch Ruppersberger, visiting the office of John Sarbanes, the May 8 protest at Johns Hopkins Homewood campus and the upcoming trial on May 29 of the fourteen defendants arrested at the National Security Agency on Oct. 9, 2011.  Let Max know of any additional agenda items.
