The PBS documentary "The Cost of Inheritance” explores how the current wealth gap between Black and white Americans stems from the legacy of slavery. Callie House first lobbied for reparations for Black people during the post-Civil War era. After amassing a large following, she was put in prison. The film shows current descendants of enslaved people and slave owners working together on the issue of reparations. Sarah Eisner’s ancestors had owned Randy Quarterman’s ancestors as slaves. Eisner and Quarterman founded The Reparations Project. Briayna Cuffie, a descendant of enslaved persons, collaborates with Lotte Lieb Dula, a descendant of slave owners, in a group called Reparations4Slavery.  Cuffie will attend the screening.

The Reel and Meal at the New Deal is a monthly film series focused on environmental, social justice and animal rights issues, presented by Utopia Film Festival, the Prince George’s County Peace and Justice Coalition and Beaverdam Creek Watershed Watch Group.  This month’s screening is organized by Sacred Ground. For more information, contact jfischer2@verizon.net or the Reel and Meal Facebook page (www.facebook.com/reelandmealNDC).
