3] – THE ORGANIZING LIST will be the primary decision-making mechanism of the National Campaign of Nonviolent Resistance [NCNR].  It will be augmented by conference calls and possibly in-person meetings as needed.  It will consist of 1 or 2 representatives from each local, regional, or national organization (not coalitions) that wishes to actively work to carry out the NCNR campaign of facilitating and organizing nonviolent resistance to the war in Iraq.

4] – Green Candidate Pat Elder is Running against Democratic House Whip Steny Hoyer -- www.elderforcongress.org/elderforcongress@gmail.com/301-997-3963. Elder is a life-long peace and justice activist, who will be on the ballot in November. He is a great progressive.  Elder calls for shutting down the Chalk Point and Morgantown coal-fired stations in the 5th district. Pat is opposed to Dominion Energy’s terminal at Cove Point and other projects in the 5th. He also demands a cessation of weapons testing in the Potomac and an immediate cleanup of Superfund sites at the Indian Head Naval Warfare Center and Patuxent River Naval Air Station. He calls for subjecting the military’s ongoing environmental degradation to state oversight. 

Pat supports Medicare for all, public financing of elections, free community college. Elder supports a living wage; strong measures to correct racial injustice; eliminating the Social Security taxable maximum of $128,400; He advocates for meaningful cuts in military spending and increasing the top tax for folks making more than $2 million to 50%. That’ll pay for everything. Pat supports non-violent, multilateral solutions to the problems facing our country.

Pat plans to capture 5% of the vote and expects to open the political debate. Pat expects to run the most successful Green Party congressional campaign ever. It shouldn’t be too tough. Hoyer is awful. Spread the message on social media. Send in a dollar or two if you can.

Trident submarines and ballistic missile systems maintained by this country are a threat to all creation. The ongoing building and maintenance of Trident constitute war crimes that can and should be investigated and prosecuted by judicial authorities at all levels. As citizens, we are required by International Law to denounce and resist known crimes.

Nuclear weapons eviscerate the rule of law, enforce white supremacy, perpetuate endless war and environmental destruction and ensure impunity for all manner of crimes against humanity. Seven Catholic Plowshares activists entered Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in St. Mary’s, Georgia on April 4th, 2018.  They went to make real the prophet Isaiah’s command to “beat swords into plowshares”. (See more at https://www.kingsbayplowshares7.org/).

 The Kings Bay Plowshares 7 defendants and support team seek to hire a passionate and dedicated Georgia paid organizer. We expect the KBP7 Field Organizer to be working in South Georgia and interact with a diverse range of people, build a strong volunteer base and plan and organize various solidarity events representing the KBP7 and their action goals. We are looking for someone interested in and skilled at building with and learning from frontline communities, as well as, honoring longtime activists already engaged in grassroots organizing for the KBP7 on the ground in the Brunswick, Georgia area. 

 The position extends to the KBP7 trial. The trial date is currently unknown but we are anticipating that it will happen within 6 months or less from now.

 The paid organizer will begin at 10 hours per week. This will likely increase closer to a trial date. The hourly rate is $20.

 Supervision will be provided by a 3 person committee with one primary point person. The paid organizer will also join a weekly KBP7 support team conference call meeting and present a weekly action report.

 We will not provide housing, however, we will work closely with the paid organizer to find suitable and inexpensive housing for their length of employment.

 The job skills which are sought are as follows: Effective communication skills, Computer literacy hopefully including database management, listserv management, and social media literacy. Grassroots networking experience, Comfortable with public speaking and Media savvy. Job Specifics are to Work closely with the KBP7 support team and media coordinator to further the KBP7 action goals including continued witness to the threat of Trident; Coordinate current GA volunteers, delegating outreach and logistical tasks to volunteers as much as possible, Recruit new GA volunteers, Plan and execute outreach events, such as… Vigils at KB and at hearings and trial, Potlucks for Peace with discussion regarding Trident and a pre-trial Festival of Hope.

61] – Rally again on Fri., Nov. 2 outside the Department of Homeland Security from 4 to 6 PM to keep the pressure on the government to reunify families separated at the border. 64] – On Fri., Nov. 2 at 7 PM, come to the Free First-Friday Film @ the Peace Center of Delaware County, 1001 Old Sproul Rd., Springfield, PA to see John Sayles’ AMIGO.  Doors open at 6:30 PM for light refreshments. This 2010 drama was the 17th feature film from Academy Award-nominated writer-director and independent film pioneer, John Sayles (“Matewan,” “Eight Men Out,” and “Lone Star.” This film, circa 1900, is about how the U.S. sought to “liberate” the Philippines which morphed into an occupation with imperial ambitions and an ongoing state of violence and oppression.  When U.S. troops occupy his village, Rafael (Joel Torre), the village mayor comes under pressure from a tough-as-nails officer (Chris Cooper) to help the Americans in their hunt for Filipino guerrilla fighters. Rafael’s brother (Ronnie Lazaro) leads the local guerrilla fighters, and considers anyone who cooperates with the Americans to be a traitor. Rafael quickly finds himself forced to make the impossible, potentially deadly decisions faced by ordinary civilians in an occupied country: cooperation or resistance.

On Oct. 14, 2018, Oscar Romero, martyred Archbishop of San Salvador, was canonized a saint in a ceremony at the Vatican. Sarver, Wright and Stokan attended this historic event. They will share accounts of this celebration, how they have been personally impacted by Romero's life, and reflect on Romero's legacy for the church and world today.  Sarver, a local Catholic educator, has traveled to El Salvador four times to study the legacy of Oscar Romero. In 2015 she attended Romero's beatification Mass in El Salvador. She published an article about Romero in the National Reporter at https://www.ncronline.org/news/global/blessed-conspiracy-finding-myself-romeros-beatification.

Wright and Stokan reside in Mt. Rainier with their daughter, Maura. Scott accompanied the poor and refugees in El Salvador during the tumultuous 1980s. Scientists from around the world issued a stark warning to humanity Tuesday in a semi-annual report on the Earth's declining biodiversity, which shows that about 60 percent of mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles have been wiped out by human activity since 1970.

"What is increasingly clear is that human development and wellbeing are reliant on healthy natural systems, and we cannot continue to enjoy the former without the latter." —World Wildlife Fund

   The World Wildlife Fund's Living Planet Index details how human's uncontrolled overconsumption of land, food, and natural resources has eliminated a majority of the wildlife on the planet—threatening human civilization as well as the world's animals.

"We are sleepwalking towards the edge of a cliff," Mike Barrett, executive director of science and conservation at WWF, told the Guardian. "If there was a 60 percent decline in the human population, that would be equivalent to emptying North America, South America, Africa, Europe, China, and Oceania. That is the scale of what we have done."

   Killer whales were named as one species that is in grave danger of extinction due to exposure to chemicals used by humans, and the Living Index Report highlighted freshwater species and animal populations in Central and South America as being especially affected by human activity in the past five decades. 

    "Species population declines are especially pronounced in the tropics, with South and Central America suffering the most dramatic decline, an 89 percent loss compared to 1970," reads the report. "Freshwater species numbers have also declined dramatically, with the Freshwater Index showing an 83% decline since 1970."

    Destruction of wildlife habitats is the leading human-related cause of extinction, as people around the world are now using about three-quarters of all land on the planet for agriculture, industry, and other purposes, according to the report.

     Mass killing of animals for food is the second-largest cause of extinction, according to the report, with 300 mammal species being "eaten into extinction." "It is a classic example of where the disappearance is the result of our own consumption," Barrett told the Guardian.

    The report stresses a need to that shift away from the notion that wildlife must be protected simply for the sake of ensuring that future generations can see species like elephants, polar bears, and other endangered animals in the wild.

  Rather, the survival of the planet's ecosystems is now a matter of life and death for the human population, according to the WWF.

 "Nature contributes to human wellbeing culturally and spiritually, as well as through the critical production of food, clean water, and energy, and through regulating the Earth's climate, pollution, pollination and floods," Professor

    Robert Watson, who contributed to the report, told the Guardian. "The Living Planet report clearly demonstrates that human activities are destroying nature at an unacceptable rate, threatening the wellbeing of current and future generations."

   "Nature is not a 'nice to have'—it is our life-support system," added Barrett.

  Many scientists believe that studies like that of the WWF demonstrate that a sixth mass extinction is now underway—a theory that would mean the Earth could experience its first mass extinction event caused by a single species inhabiting the planet. The loss of all life on Earth could come about due to a combination of human-caused effects, including a rapidly warming planet as well as the loss of biodiversity.

   "The Great Acceleration, and the rapid and immense social, economic and ecological changes it has spurred, show us that we are in a period of great upheaval," reads the study. "Some of these changes have been positive, some negative, and all of them are interconnected. What is increasingly clear is that human development and wellbeing are reliant on healthy natural systems, and we cannot continue to enjoy the former without the latter."
