18] – Amar Ahmad, Massachusetts Peace Action [info@masspeaceaction.org] wants you to watch and discuss on Mon., April 11 at 7 PM ET President John F Kennedy’s 1963’s “Peace Speech” at American University.  In 1963 President John F. Kennedy made a dramatic turn toward peace and began an attempt to lead the American people out of the Cold War and toward peaceful co-existence with the Soviet Union. One of the highlights of his efforts was his speech at American University on June 10, 1963, a speech addressed to the American people about peace and what we as a people needed to do to begin moving in that direction.

In that speech the President said,   “What kind of peace do I mean and what kind of peace do we seek?  Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war.  Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave.  I am talking about genuine peace — the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living — the kind of peace that enables…  [people] and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children — not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women — not merely peace in our time but peace in all time.”

One thing to learn from President Kennedy’s death is that it is not enough to have a leader who genuinely pursues peace.  We must be organized as a people to demand our nation genuinely pursue peace.  And in order to do this we, ordinary citizens, have to understand what genuine peace is and how to pursue it.  One place to begin is by returning to the President’s historic speech, studying it, and extracting from it principles of peace that we can apply today. 20] – Sign up to join a Thank Election Heroes Action on Tues., April 12 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM ET, hosted by the League of Women Voters of Arlington. Your public actions to thank your local pro-voter election officials and poll workers can garner positive press and help energize more people to get involved in local elections. Election workers are essential workers - like nurses, grocery store workers, firefighters, etc. Without them, our democracy cannot function.

In the past 30 years, Kathy has lived among ordinary families and children during wars waged by the U.S. and its allies against Iraq, Afghanistan, Gaza, and Lebanon. Classroom censorship on students' right to learn about race, gender, and sexual orientation. Book bans against largely Black and LGBTQ+ authors across the states. They're coordinated attempts by politicians and other public actors to erase historic truth, identities, and people from the public sphere.  The ACLU is pushing back in the courts and statehouses right now – and we want you to have all you need to fight with us. North Ave., Baltimore 21217. Sign up at https://www.mobilize.us/pfaw/event/448341/?followup_modal_context=newsletter. Your actions to thank your local pro-voter election officials and poll workers can garner positive press and help energize more people to get involved in local elections. Election workers are essential workers - like nurses, grocery store workers, firefighters, etc. Without them, our democracy cannot function.

27] – Jim Cason, FCNL [fcnlinfo@fcnl.org] wants you to connect with your members of Congress when they are most primed to hear what their constituents want and need. On Tues., April 12 at 4 PM ET, join FCNL’s Legislative Director Amelia Kegan and Jim Cason to learn how you can connect with your members of Congress in their local offices or virtually.  Lawmakers are gearing up to pass reconciliation legislation this spring. This bill offers a rare opportunity to advance policies you care about, including investments in clean energy, environmental justice, and programs like the expanded monthly Child Tax Credit. With energy prices soaring and the rising cost of living stretching family budgets to the limit, these measures could be a game-changer for millions of families. But their inclusion in the bill is far from guaranteed. RSVP at https://act.fcnl.org/event/quaker-welcome-center-events-watch-home/2720?akid=23084.152065.q-muvA&rd=1&t=17&utm_campaign=event&utm_medium=email&utm_source=ak&utm_term=23084.152065.q-muvA.

28] – Join the Baltimore Nonviolence Center on Tues., April 12 from 4:30 to 5:30 PM ET for a support demonstration for the people of Ukraine at 33rd and N. Charles Sts. The protest against Johns Hopkins University’s weapons contracts is suspended. The invasion of Ukraine has the potential to become a war extending throughout Europe.  Putin has destroyed Aleppo and Grozny and has threatened the use of nuclear weapons.  Russian soldiers have taken over the contaminated and still radioactive Chernobyl nuclear plant.  A Russian tank sent projectiles very close to a nuclear power plant. The workers are under guard, and this is tremendously dangerous.  People who believe in peace and justice must come forward and take the risks of peace. Contact Max at mobuszewski2001 at Comcast dot net or 410-323-1607. This vigil will takes place each Tuesday.

29] – Get involved virtually with Texting Tuesdays from 6 to 8 PM EDT through June 28.  Join Progressive Maryland and its endorsed candidates every Tuesday to text voters across the state! The election is getting closer, so it is imperative to get the word out about these candidates that want radical change in favor of working people and our families! Sign up at https://www.mobilize.us/progressivemarylandneweraproject/event/437643/?followup_modal_context=newsletter.

30] – Dylan Contrino [info@brookelierman.com] wants you to do some texting for Brooke Lierman on Tuesdays.  Text on Tues., April 12 from 6 to 8 PM ET. Help elect Brooke as the next Comptroller of Maryland.  Sign up at https://www.mobilize.us/brookeliermanforcomptroller/event/444772/?emci=470e1845-ce9b-ec11-a22a-281878b85110&emdi=0c5c76a9-d59b-ec11-a22a-281878b85110&ceid=14404480.

31] – Our Revolution [info@ourrevolution.com] would like you to phone bank on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 PM ET. There are more than 8 million voters across the country who identify as progressive. These numbers suggest progressives can win at every level of government, but the voters must go to the polls! Sign up to join the Our Revolution phone bank force at https://www.mobilize.us/ourrevolution/event/440081/?akid=2556.8252965.t1Ai8m&rd=1&t=11. Do it on April 12, 13 or 14.

32] – CODEPINK [info@codepink.org] needs your participation on Tues., April 12 at 8 PM ET for a Fossil Fuel-Free Future. ‌ ‌This is a CODEPINK CONGRESS Calling Party to mobilize for peace legislation! Discuss the importance of diverting money to renewable energy in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In the wake of Russia’s horrific invasion of Ukraine, the Biden administration is doubling down on domestic fossil fuel production while appealing to Saudi Arabia's oil-rich autocrats to increase exports of fossil fuels. This is wrong and short-sighted. Now is the time to divert money for weapons to transition to a green economy! Learn about bills introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders and Rep Cori Bush to invoke the Defense Production Act (DPA) to invest in renewables like wind and solar, as well as legislation for a Green New Deal for Cities. Meet a Greenpeace climate organizer mobilizing activists to demand executive orders and administrative actions urgently needed to thwart the climate crisis. RSVP at https://www.codepink.org/04122022?utm_campaign=cp_congress_04122022&utm_medium=email&utm_source=codepink.

To be continued.
