63] – You are invited to attend the first monthly meeting of the "Harriet Fulbright Pathways To Middle East Peace Symposium And Roundtable Series" on Thurs., Jan. 26, 6 to 8 PM at the United Methodist Building, 100 Maryland Ave. NE, WDC. It is a short walk from the Union Station and Capitol South Metro stations. Dinner will be served.

Now more than ever, the time has come for an energized progressive civil society Middle East Peace movement that can work on multiple levels to help move the peace process forward. The tragic conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians must end, and the U.S. and the international community must assist the effort by engaging in robust international diplomacy. The majority of Israelis and Palestinians want peace and support the idea of a two-state solution that guarantees Israeli's security and the creation of an independent, democratic, viable Palestinian state.

At the Middle East Peace Symposium and Roundtable, we will engage in honest discussion about pathways to Middle East peace and the actions needed to arrive at workable solutions of the problems. RSVP by calling or emailing Mark Harrison at MHarrison@UMC-GBCS.ORG or 202-441-0605 ASAP.

64] – Keystone XL/Tar Sands Action Debrief is happening on Thurs., Jan. 26 from 6 to 8 PM at the Sierra Club Headquarters, 50 F St. NW, WDC.  It's not every day that organizers take on the biggest corporate industry in the world and win. This campaign debrief will cover the final months of mass mobilization against the KXL Pipeline, addressing the political and organizing strategies that catapulted a relatively obscure infrastructure fight into a defining issue for the climate movement. Go to https://act.neworganizing.com/survey/NOF_Jan12_noKXL/?akid=1043.5430.1KfhlI&rd=1&t=1.

65] – Occupy to Liberate and Take Back the Land Movements is on Thurs., Jan. 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at  1640 Columbia Road NW, WDC.  The Institute for Policy Studies invites you to a cutting edge and interactive forum featuring Take Back the Land movement (TBL) leader, Max Rameau. Accompanied by video presentation, Max will lead a discussion about the historical context of this movement; an analysis of how the Occupy movement relates to TBL; and the differences, similarities, and synergies between this movement and TBL. An integral part of the discussion will be about race, class, and international issues. There is a suggested donation of $5 to help cover costs but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.  RSVP to netfa@ips-dc-org

66] – The U.S., Central America and the Global Economy is a Colloquium to be held at the Wheaton Library, 11701 Georgia Ave., Wheaton, MD  on Thurs., Jan. 26 from 7 to 9 PM.  The U.S. has played a major role in Central America's economy and politics for over 100 years, both overtly through military intervention and less obviously through political and economic manipulation. The people of Central America have resisted this interference, often at great cost. The speaker is international expert and activist Grahame Russell, and the moderators are Lindolfo Carballo of CASA de Maryland and Tim Willard of Peace Action Montgomery.  Visit http://www.rightsaction.org/.  This event is co-sponsored by Peace Action Montgomery  http://peaceactionmc.org/  and  CASA de Maryland  http://www.casademaryland.org/.

67] – Volunteers are needed to help with the 27th Annual Maryland Peace and Justice Conference to be held on Friday and Saturday, April 20 & 21 at the Episcopal Cathedral Church of the Incarnation, 4 E. University Parkway, Baltimore, 21218. The theme is: "Peacemaking in the 21st century; 25 years of working for peace and justice in Maryland."  Contact Paulette Hammond, secretary, MUPJ, at 410-747-3811 or phamm001@earthlink.net or paulette.d.hammond@questdiagnostics.com.

If so, the Chesapeake Climate Action Network has the perfect internship for you. It is hiring interns for the spring semester to work out of the Takoma Park and Richmond offices. 69] – Melody Weinstein of www.melofilms.com notified me that the documentary film she has been working on with Michael Heaney is nearing completion. Titled "The Activists," it chronicles the anti-war movement over the last 10 years, and the major players in the movement. They have filmed us in Baltimore and D.C. and New York City and other places.  After years of filming and researching, they look forward to showing the final cut in a few short months.

They have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for finishing the film and have until January 11 to reach the goal of 15K.  To support the film, go to http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/melofilms/the-activists-war-peace-and-politics-in-the-street.

A growing group of leaders around the world is calling for the elimination of nuclear weapons and a majority of the global public agrees.  This is an historic window of opportunity.  With momentum already building in favor of Zero, a major show of support from people around the world could tip the balance. When it comes to nuclear weapons, one is one too many.

"One is called to live nonviolently, even if the change one works for seems impossible. It may or may not be possible to turn the US around through nonviolent revolution. But one thing favors such an attempt: the total inability of violence to change anything for the better" - Daniel Berrigan
