3] – THE ORGANIZING LIST will be the primary decision-making mechanism of the National Campaign of Nonviolent Resistance [NCNR].  It will be augmented by conference calls and possibly in-person meetings as needed.  It will consist of 1 or 2 representatives from each local, regional, or national organization (not coalitions) that wishes to actively work to carry out the NCNR campaign of facilitating and organizing nonviolent resistance to the war in Iraq.

 

To join the ORGANIZING List, please send your name, group affiliation, city and email address to donmuller@msn.com.  Different local chapters of a national organization are encouraged to subscribe.  

 

THE NOTICES LIST will include only notices of NCNR actions and related information and is open to any interested person to subscribe.  It will be moderated to maintain focus & will include periodic notices about getting involved in NCNR national organizing.  To join the NOTICES List, send an email message to ncnrnotices-subscribe@lists.riseup.net. 5] – Brad Hathaway spearheads an effort to sell donated used stamps to raise money for different humanitarian causes around the world. Send no small flag stamps or Liberty Bell Forever stamps.

7] – Footprints for Peace, an International Peace Walk, has started its march from the Y-12 National Security Complex, Oak Ridge, TN and is heading for the United Nations, aiming to arrive on Sat., May 1.  Go to http://footprintsforpeace.tripod.com/E10/NPT/npt_walk.htm.

9] – The ARLINGTON MIDWEST MEMORIAL will be in D.C. through Sun., Mar. 21. The Northwest Ohio Peace Coalition will bring its display of over 5,000 grave markers arranged near the Peace of the Action campsite. They will need lots of volunteers. Go to www.nwopc.org.

 

10] – On Thurs., Mar. 18, join the CODEPINK Drone Fleet in a cardboard sculpting workshop at the convergence space on 5th St. and K St. NW (next door to Busboys & Poets). Help make a fleet of cardboard drones for a creative protest in the massive peace march on March 20th. Help raise awareness about civilian casualty deaths, war profiteering and the local cost of war. 11] – On Thurs., Mar. 18, 7 to 8:30 PM, Christian Peace Witness presents the fifth session of a weekly Thursday evening peace and justice study at Clarendon Presbyterian Church, 1305 N. Jackson St. Arlington, VA 22201.  The study will be based on a DVD bringing Tony Campolo, Sr. Dianna Ortiz, Rev. 12] – Starting Fri., Mar. 19 through Mon., Mar. 22, the Ecumenical Advocacy Days A Place to Call Home: Immigrants, Refugees, and Displaced Peoples are taking place at Doubletree Crystal City-National Airport Hotel, Arlington, VA and Lutheran Church of the Reformation, 212 E. Capitol St., NE, WDC.  There are many workshops scheduled, including on Sat.,, Mar. 20, from 2:50 - 4:20 PM, NRCAT presents a workshop covering ways of ending U.S. torture at home and abroad.  Another workshop on Mar., 20 will feature David Culp, Friends Committee on National Legislation, Dave Robinson, Pax Christi USA, and Kevin Martin, Peace Action, discussing "Nuclear Weapons Free World" from 4:50 to 6:20 PM. 13] – A peace vigil takes place every Friday from noon at Lafayette Park facing the White House.  Join the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker at the vigil, which is co-ssponsored by Pax Christi Metro DC- Baltimore, TASSC, Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns, Jonah House and Christian Peace Witness. 14] – A vigil for Justice in Palestine/Israel (now in its 8th year) takes place every Friday from noon to 1 PM at 19th & JFK Blvd., Philadelphia (across from Israeli Consulate.  It is sponsored by Bubbies & Zaydes (Grandparents) for Peace in the Middle East. 17] –- On Fri., Mar. 19 during the day, protest alleged war criminal Prof. John Yoo who will be at Univ. of Virginia. Go to http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/yooincville.

 

18] – Funk the War: Bad Romance Street Party Against Empire is happening on Fri., Mar. 19 at 3 PM, starting at

19] – There is a silent vigil on Fri., Mar. 19 from 5 to 6 PM outside of Homewood Friends Meeting, 3107 N. Charles St., in opposition to war with Iraq. Placards say: "War Is Not the Answer." The silent vigil is sponsored by AFSC, Homewood Friends and Stony Run Meetings.

 

20] – On Fri., Mar. 19 from 6 to 8 PM, check out Different Shades of Militarization: an Iraq Anniversary Forum at Busboys and Poets, 5th and K Sts. NW, WDC.  In remembrance of the 7th anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq, learn how militarization affects oppressed populations.  Call 202-234-2000 or email info@washingtonpeacecenter.org. . 

 

21] – On Fri., Mar. 19, from, 6 to 8 PM, Busboys & Poets, 14th and V Sts. NW, WDC, the discussion will look at Censorship, Propaganda and Empire. Peter Phillips and Mickey Huff of CENSORED 2010: The 25 Most Censored Stories of 2009 will do a presentation and book signing. The suggested donation is $10.  Call 301-452-0090.

 

22] – SHED LIGHT ON US WAR CASUALTIES: FROM THE FRONT LINE TO THE BACK DOOR of Walter Reed Army Medical Center (North Gate), every Friday night, from 7 to 9 PM in the middle of the 7100 block of Georgia Ave., NW. The vigil calls for peace, care for the wounded, and full benefits for all veterans.  Contact Bruce Wolf - Haunteddog@aol.com.

 

23] – On Fri., Mar. 19 at 7 PM at the Senator Theater, 5904 York Road, Baltimore, MD 21212, there will be a fundraiser for Maryland Physicians for National Health Plan and the premier Baltimore showing of the Yes Men's new movie THE YES MEN FIX THE WORLD.  The price of admission is $8.  After the movie, Dr. Margaret Flowers will speak about fixing the world beginning with putting in place improved Medicare for All. One of the Yes Men Mike Bonnano will be there to answer questions.  The film will also be shown on Sun., Mar. 21 at 3, 5, and 7 PM and Mon., Mar. 22 through Thurs., Mar. 25 at 7 PM.  Call 410-435-1118.  Go to www.senator.com.

 

The Yes Men have done fabulous work bringing attention to corporate abuse by impersonating big-time corporate criminals in order to publicly humiliate them. Go to www.TheYesMen.org.

 

24] –  There is an opportunity to participate in ballroom dancing, usually every Friday of the month, in the JHU ROTC Bldg. at 8 PM.  Turn south on San Martin Dr. from the intersection of Univ. 25] – Rev. Dr. Mankekolo Mahlangu-Ngcobo’s 12-week Bible Study for Women to study women then in the Bible and women now continues through Mar. 27.  The bible study will continue each Saturday at 9:30 AM Shiloh AME Church, 2601 Lyndhurst Ave. Baltimore 21216. The motto is "Biblically literate and spiritually strong women change and build themselves, families, communities and the world." 26] – On Sat., Mar. 20, from 10 AM to 12:30 PM, join a Union Dialogue on Jobs, Peace and the Economy, sponsored by US Labor Against the War, AFL-CIO Headquarters, 815 16th St., WDC.  See a screening of the new film, “Why We are in Afghanistan?” 

 

27] – ANSWER is bringing to Washington, D.C. a demand for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all U.S. and NATO forces from Afghanistan and Iraq on Sat., Mar. 20 at noon in Lafayette Park. “No Colonial-type Wars and Occupations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Haiti!" "No War Against Iran!” “No War for Empire Anywhere!”  Marchers will demand funds should go to job creation, universal health care, decent schools and affordable housing. March 20 is the seventh anniversary of the criminal war of aggression launched by Bush and Cheney against Iraq. Veterans for Peace will rally at the Peace of the Action campsite on 15th and Constitution at 9:30 AM to march to Lafayette Park.  Go to www.march20.org.

28] – Friends House, 17715 Meeting House Rd., Sandy Spring, MD 20860, hosts a peace vigil every Saturday, 10:30 to 11:30 AM, on the corner of Rt. 108 and Georgia Ave. in Olney, MD.  The next vigil is Mar. 20. Call Chuck Harker at 301-570-7167. 

29] –  Each Saturday, 11 AM – 1 PM, Chester County Peace Movement holds a peace vigil in West Chester in front of the Chester County Courthouse, High & Market Sts. Go to www.ccpeace.org. Email ccpeacemovement@aol.com.

30] –  The 3rd Saturday of the month protest vigil to close the Army Experience Center at Franklin Mills Mall takes place on Mar. 20 from 11:30 AM to 1 PM at Knights and Woodhaven Roads, NE Philadelphia.  A number of groups, including United for Peace & Justice - Delaware Valley Network, co-sponsor the vigil. This particular Saturday will call attention to the 7th Anniversary Memorial of the invasion of Iraq.  One of the speakers will be Jesse Hamilton, former U.S. Army staff sergeant in Iraq, adviser to Iraqi Army in Fallujah, ‘05-‘06. There will be music, bell-tolling and reading the names of Philadelphians killed in Iraq and recruited through one of the recruiting stations merged into the Army Experience Center.    

31] – There will be a peace vigil on the West Lawn of the Capitol at noon on Mar. 20. Look for the blue banner with the message, "Seek Peace and Pursue It.--Psalms 34:14."
